Question Why is it less likely that Light is Kira?

Post image

I thought maybe it would be less likely to L that the second Kira is operating alone because he changed tactics. But I don’t understand why it would be less likely for Light to be Kira.

Be wary of spoilers, but the gist is that L is a liar.

Could be interpreted in many ways tbh.

Personally I think it's bait, L probably strongly suspected him shortly after first physically meeting with Light (the photos at the cafe).

If Light heard such a deduction and decided to do the very opposite, it's just like when Light started scheduling his deaths consistently after a police report suspecting Kira to be a student, allowing L to deduct that Kira is someone with access to classified police files (which was still Light's biggest blunder imo, killing Lind L Taylor still made the task of finding Light impossible before this). L's fishing for something to prove Light's Kira.

Saying that Light's chance of being Kira was reduced could have been L's way of preventing Light from telling the second Kira to make L appear on live TV.

If after this conversation the second Kira suddenly orders L to show his face to the public, it would indicate that Light is Kira. This is because L is sure that the two Kiras have met, and that now the second Kira is only obeying the orders of the original.

L was probably counting on Light to not make the same mistake he did when he abruptly altered the schedules of deaths, because if Light is indeed Kira, he would know that the rescheduling had ultimately resulted in his family being investigated by the FBI. L thinks quite highly of Light in terms of his deductive abilities, so he probably wouldn't expect him to screw up in a similar way (IMO I don't really know why Light altered his kill schedule right after L deduced that Kira was a student, since there are much fewer students who can have access to police info than students who can't. Killing Lind L Taylor could have been the result of him underestimating L and his resources, but theres only so much 'underestimating' you can do)

In the pages after the ones OP posted, Light says that L probably wouldn't show himself on TV even if the second Kira tells him to, and would find a way to get out of such a sticky situation, to which L agrees. I think L would have acted like this as well. However, it's good to prevent complications like this from happening altogether.

He's proposing that Light would go for the kill here. Threaten L and demand he go on TV and it's checkmate. Since Kira did not do that and instead did something L considers a weak move that gives them the information that the Kiras are now working together.

That said, it doesn't mean much since he's pretty much certain that Light is Kira the entire time xd

Look at it from L's psychological profile of Kira. The original Kira is meticulous, proud, and calculated—traits Light shows perfectly. The Second Kira is sloppy, desperate for attention, and kills indiscriminately just to get a message across. To L, it makes no sense for a criminal mastermind like Light to suddenly switch to such a reckless tactic while being actively watched. The existence of an independent, chaotic Second Kira naturally dilutes the suspicion on Light in that specific moment.
