2017+ Honda CR-V Head Gasket & Major Engine Issues

I’ve had my 2014 CRV for about three years. I bought it from my grandparents, who were very diligent about oil changes and other routine maintenance. The only catch is that they refused to fly and owned a condo down south, so the car racked up miles pretty quickly.

Fast forward to today, and it has 216k miles. I recently had the rear brakes done and put new tires on it.

Funny enough, one of my apartment neighbors heard the VTC rattle one morning and we started talking about the car. He owns several Hondas, runs a small dealership, and has worked on cars for years. He recommended replacing the VTC actuator and timing chain tensioner, doing a valve adjustment, and doing a transmission fluid drain and fill. He offered to do everything for $1,200 cash.

$1,200 seems like a very fair price for all of that. My question is whether it makes sense to put another $1,200 into a CRV with 216k miles, or if I’m better off just driving it as-is until something more significant goes wrong and then upgrading to something newer.

The car otherwise runs well and has been maintained throughout its life. Curious what other CRV owners would do in my situation.

I have a 2017 CRV, 5th gen with a 2.4L engine. We’ve ran every code possible, replaced thermostat, and have racked our brains to figure out what the issue is. The thermostat sits at cold for this for about 5-10 minutes and then starts to heat up as I’m driving. I’d appreciate any advice or ideas of what to look into.

We’re signing paperwork for a CPO 2025 CR-V Hybrid tomorrow. Great deal overall at 22k miles with OTD w/ taxes and fees at 36k

The car was advertised at 33k. When we got there the dealer initially tried to add “certification” line item and tack on 2.5k. I pushed back and they reduced it to 1.5k.

I said absolutely not and I wouldn’t pay anything over advertised price, but they insisted if we don’t add the 1.5k then they can’t sell it as a CPO? I agreed we’d purchase without the certification, but that doesn’t even seem allowable? I even pulled the CPO Checklist on Hondas website.

So I got a CRV 2011 EXL, trying to find good floormats (floor liners). But since it has a subwoofer under the passenger seat, I'm worried about it conflicting with it. Anyone with 2011 exl's got any good floor liners?

I was thinking weathertech since its really popular but really pricey for what it is and I tried looking at lasfit but they specifically said they don't do the exl's due to the subwoofer. Any recs? Thank you

I drive a 2018 CRV with 81,000 miles in it. Four weeks ago, I went to the dealership service for a warranty on software update. It took about 30 minutes for the actual work.

After the update on the software, I can feel the CRV noticeably quieter and smoother. Am I the only CRV driver who fell the difference?

Bought my first CR-V (2022) about a month ago. I love it! I’m watching all the videos and getting mixed advice on the idle stop. Is it best to turn it off each time or leave it on?

Also do you use the Eco mode? Mixed advice there too. I’ll take any other helpful tips including trunk storage devices. TIA.

Is this a good OTD price? It’s Honda crv EXL 2022 with 114k miles it was $23,850 then it dropped to $23,406 now it’s at $23,259 all within a month.

Snagged this 2001 Honda CRV a couple months ago for $1000. Car had been sitting for over two years due to a snapped timing belt. Poor lady who had it was her favorite car and a mechanic didn’t want to deal with the work and told her the motor was seized and wasn’t worth fixing.

I’m trying to purchase winter wheels from market place. I get a set of genuine oem Honda wheels with same specs, except offset. Will the new wheels be OK, without rubbing the brake/caliper?

Current spec: 17x7.5, 5x114.3, + 45 offset
New wheel spec: 17x7.5, 5x114.3, + 55 offset
Tire is of same spec: 235 65 R17

Is there anything that can be done to make the infotainment system on a 2020 CR-V suck less???

Far too often, my screen just goes black while using CarPlay and doesn’t respond to anything and I end up having to reboot. Today it went totally black and periodically I would get a prompt to close the launcher. I would select ok and the screen would stay blank and not respond to anything, including rebooting. I turned the car off and back on and the screen stayed blank. Only after turning the car off and on, multiple times, did the system reboot.

This is mainly a rant but it would be great if there was some sort of solution.

I am looking at low mileage JDM motors on E-bay. Where are my inspection points upon delivery, and what parts should i be replacing while the engine is out? Timing set and water pump is already on the list
