QUESTION Keeping multiple snakes, in own enclosures

• Upvotes

Question for the people with multiple snakes, assuming they're all housed separately and in optimal conditions: are there tricks or must-have equipment to make it easier to keep all those tanks the correct heat & temps? And do you have shelving or something to use the floor space optimally?

I'm already thinking two 120x60 or 150x60 (cm) enclosures will be the max I can place, and each enclosure will need its own thermostat, heaters and lights etc. Are there ways to consolidate it a bit more, even moreso when there are, for example, 4+ enclosures to think of?

QUESTION Cage stand with a fireplace

I am looking to get a new cage stand that works with my house a bit better and i am seeing entertainment stands that have electric fireplaces attached.** **If** ***i* were to get one would it be fine to have my cornsnake and her cage on top? I would assume it wouldnt get too hot since it is meant for electronics and made of wood. I keep my house around 62°-65° and if i do use it it would be only during the day time for maybe an hour or so. I can post pictures of what i am talking about if needed!

Adding just in case you were wondering but i do have heating lamps for her cage as well as thermometers to keep her temperature properly!

I rearranged the room, and Kismet had been hiding underneath his water dish since. Presumably because he's mad about my design choices.

HUSBANDRY - CARE Bioactive Enclosure

I just set up my 4'x2'x2' temperate bioactive enclosure (for my Corn Snake) 2.5 weeks ago and I have a few questions.

  1. I haven't seen any mold - is that normal? I used Josh's Frogs Bioactive Booster and thought I used even more than I should have. The soil has also been pretty damp at times and the hygrometer sitting on the substrate right now says 70% humidity. Is it too dry for mold? Too wet? I know corns should only have 45-75% humidity.

  2. I don't really see very many springtails or powder oranges, even though I added two cultures of each. Is that fairly normal for a new setup?

The enclosure has basically been held at around 70°-75°F, since the lights are still set up for my corns old enclosure, so that could also be a factor, but there's not a lot I can do about it besides pointing a heater at it.

Any other thoughts would be super helpful! Thanks!

ESCAPE rambling about escapee

not an update, just a post for me to vent about not being able to find indou yet 😭

it's been over a week now, almost two, and while that's not uncommon, i can't help but worry. he's so tiny, and he hasn't eaten in over two weeks now.

ive checked everywhere i can think of; the inner works of my bed and frame, desk, clothes, shoes, vents, under the fridge and stove, near my power strips... no sign of him whatsoever. ive left out like four or five feeding traps (thawed pinky mouse in a bottle or hide) overnight, and he hasn't bitten. ive had baking sheets and flour all around my room to hear or see where he's going when the lights are out, but there's been no sound and no slither marks in the flour. ive been leaving his water bowl out because he's no doubt dehydrated and i think he should be shedding soon if he's not already. i had my hvac system shut off completely for a day or two while looking through the vents for him, but i had to turn it back on after a bit or else our pipes would freeze. even after visually checking them, i had left my belt taped to the floor beside the vent, draped down into it so that he could climb that if he was stuck. of course, no sign.

i completely raided his enclosure like five separate times, checked all his hides, all the substrate, i bared it completely just so i could check the little crevices in the enclosure itself.

i tore my entire dresser apart to make sure he wasn't in there; tore up my exercise treadmill to make sure he wasn't in there. ive looked through my curtains, the cracks between my floor and the drywall, any nook and cranny i could think of — nothing. now im just sort of at a standstill, waiting and hoping that he just.. shows up. he has to eventually; he hasn't eaten and he's thirsty. i just hope that the reason there's no sign of him is because he's hiding and not because he's hurt or worse.

im a bit dramatic for this, really; im not religious myself, but ive been asking those i know who are religious to do little prayers in regards to finding him. hell, i even prayed to a saint just for my peace of mind 😭 don't laugh at me

i just hope he shows up soon. since before i even caved and bought him, i was sooo attached to him. still am. i just miss him tons

indou come home so i can sleep soundly sigh

QUESTION UK 6x2.5x2 bioactive UVB stand heating

Post image
4 Upvotes

The cornsnake, Athena, is going into a 6 foot long, 2.5 foot tall, 2 foot wide vivarium in a few weeks when it arrives.

I’ve kept Athena for 10 months, Athena is roughly 3 years old. She’s currently in the 3’9 foot long, 1’5 foot tall and 1’3 foot wide viv her Og keepers gave me.

I want to make the enclosure bioactive, I’ve never done that before and I don’t even really understand plants that well. I’m concerned with the 100mm base rail, that won’t be possible for the all the layers. I need literally every single bit of information, warnings or advice you have on that. I’d also like help understanding plant lighting and what plants I should get.

I want to give her UVB (not mandatory I know but it’s a nice thing for her), I hear the Arcadia 7% is good but what do use who use UVB have to say bout it?

Any ideas of cheap things I can use to stand it on? I don’t want to pay a load of money for something to put it on. Nothing seems to have the right dimensions.

Is heating it going to be more difficult? Currently I have a 50w bulb and that averages the right 30-32°c on the hot side and 20-22°c on the cold side. Obviously I’ll have it running for a bit to make sure it’s in order but I just want to know.

Also does anyone else have their snakes in a large enclosure? Im only doing it cause I’ve been saving to and I know she’ll enjoy it and I think she deserves it cause she’s so compliant and forgiving even when I mess up with her.

You had one yesterday chill😭😭 he was sleeping and noticed me looking at his tank, came all the way to the seam where glass doors open while getting into that tracking jumpy predator mode, been checking everything that moves out for like an hour after that and then went back to sleep

Which is weird because he usually never moves from 2 fav hides for 2 days from feeding but ig he was feeling active

Ps. his feeding is weight-appropriate I won't be upgrading him to jumpers till he reaches 60g, hes 40g now

QUESTION Should I add a ______?

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

I have a 100w ceramic heat emitter and a 100w halogen basking bulb connected to a thermostat. I’m using the heat emitter all day, just dimming it at night to the respective temp. And using the halogen bulb only during the day at the respective temp. Both on the hot side. I was wondering if I should buy a UVB output too. Only for daytime. Like the Arcadia ShadeDweller or Zoo Med ReptiSun.

I want to connect it to a herpstat 4, but the internet is giving me mixed answers on whether that is safe. So let me know if I should buy a separate on/off wall timer. Thanks in advance!

QUESTION I am so confused about what type of light/ heat a corn snake needs.

Im getting my first corn snake in about two weeks and im gathering supplies for them! I’ve seen so many conflicting websites saying infrared lamps are good / bad / good only sometimes.

Do I use a regular heat lamp and forget about the infrared light?

Do I just need a heat source for one side of the tank if the room they are in gets natural daylight? or do I need a heat source (for night) and a heat lamp supplying UVA also for day… so two different heat lamps?

OR… do I need 3. heat lamp, infrared, and a heat source without light?

I just want to make sure im set up for success because im getting so many different answers online.

HUSBANDRY - CARE any improvements?

Post image

hey! i just came on here to ask if there's any improvements i could make to my corn snakes enclosure. she is 5 years old and pretty much fully grown. she has two hides, one on the warm side and another on the cold side (the cold hide isn't in this picture), along with enough branches to climb on which she does. i'd also love to add some live plants in the future, and was also wondering if that'd be a good idea for her :) thanks!

HELP! Regurgitation or poop in water bowl (worried mum of 1y old albino corn snake) Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Hi guys,

I've had some trouble getting the right size mice home for little blizzy, so i have tried my best to roll and squeeze the mice I have bought in advance.

Feeding chart tells me she should be eating smaller fuzzys 4-6 grams ish

But the ones Ive been rolling out and feeding her are 7-10 grams (with a bigger gap between the 3 times she's been fed this size)

She seemingly has not had any issues with this upsizing when eating and afterwards the other times, but today I found this in her water bowl.

I'm really unsure if it's regurgitation or stool😶

She usually doesn't defecate in her bowl, but I have noticed she usually does it near it or around/under it.

I've been struggling a bit with handling her recently and I'm worried that I might have caused her some distress, that possibly could've caused a regurgitation when combined with her premature prey upsizing.

Please help me figure this out🥲

QUESTION Humidity Control in Arid Climates

Hello, I am a new snake-ly friend with my little boy Tango and I’m wondering what the best way to keep his humidity is. But first I want to let you know where I live, because every time I ask, people tend to forget that not everyone lives where they live. I live in Wyoming which if you don’t know is a very dry and arid climate. It’s very low humidity, somewhere between 20%-30% and on occasion even lower. Therefore, I absolutely need something to control the humidity 24/7. I do NOT live in a wet climate like the East Coast or something. I live somewhere known for its dryness.

One more thing I wanna say is he has a mesh ceiling top and mesh sides as well, about 1/3 of the end sides of his enclosure is mesh and his entire top is mesh so the humidity (specifically the fog) doesn’t completely stay in the enclosure and just enough goes in to raise his humidity.

Fogger vs Humidifier

My fogger (I forget the name of the one I have) isn’t like a fogger that just continuously puts out the same amount of fog. It’s adjustable with a little knob that controls the input of fog and it has a tube that I move occasionally around his enclosure so one spot isn’t constantly getting fogged and wet. Very minimal fog is needed to make his humidity go up to 50% so it’s hardly fogged and looking inside of it, I can’t even see the clouds of fog. If you want to see a picture I can DM you if you’d like to see it for yourself and I’m totally fine if that’s what you need to gauge if a fogger is better.

My humidifier is smaller than my fogger and isn’t technically a reptile-specific humidifier but it gets the job done. I usually put it on the ground next to the table his enclosure sits on and it lives there. My humidifier is not adjustable and doesn’t directly spit humidity into his enclosure and humidifies the entire room along with his enclosure. Although one comment I will make is I do not remember if the humidifier is able to reach humidities past 45%, considering the humidity where I live starts at 20% usually thats a pretty good humidifier but I don’t like that I can’t adjust it or anything.

I would prefer to continue using the fogger as it is more convenient (and was quite expensive, another note I wanna make is I’m a minor living with my parents) for my personal situation with the ability for it to adjust depending on his shedding cycles and stressing. Although, if you strongly discourage the fogger I won’t be adamant about keeping the fogger and will switch back to my humidifier and hopefully will get a new one better suited for adjusting his humidity levels.

Thank you for your replies, I just want to make sure I’m not hurting my baby by using a fogger since I’ve heard people discourage them. <3

QUESTION Handling Baby Corn

I’ve had my corn snake for about four weeks. She’s six months old and she just recently went through a shed. She’s doing good now however I do have a question about handling whenever I try to handle her. She seems startled but she’s sort of OK with me picking her up from her enclosure But when she’s in the air she almost tries to run away without trying to run away whatever she feels, my grip is kind of loose she’ll try to just stretch out as far as she can. I have no idea why can somebody please help? Also she I haven’t noticed any differences between handling her an over the last 3 weeks she still seems scared / nervous is it because i haven’t had her for more than a month?

ESCAPE How can I find my escaped baby in this room?

Thumbnail

Last Thursday, my baby girl got out while I was at school. She's not as thin as a pencil but not as thick as the diameter of a dime at 7ish months old. We've been doing everything we can find to try and lure her out but we can't find her. Sprinkled flour on some of my baseboards (ran out of flour so I couldn't do all of them), left feeders out for her (threw them out and replaced them on second day because they started bloating horribly), left her water out. We tore my room apart trying to locate her but then we found holes in the walls and I used an endoscope that made me realize they were hollow. Her feeding day was supposed to be Saturday but since she never ate any of the lures she hasn't eaten in 9 days (I feed them every 6). I'm too scared to do something as simple as laundry or take out my trash because I don't know where the hell my houdini noodle is. I'm desperate enough to where I've sat duct tape out in hopes it'll catch her (which we've been checking periodically throughout the day to ensure that if she did get stuck, it wouldn't be for long. I'm mostly worried because we have four cats (not allowed in my room but unfortunately she could've slipped under the door) but at the same time if they got her we would know from how gruesome the scene would be.

Pictures of the armoire is because I had my snake rack (black shelf thing in the pics) sitting in the armoire when she got out. As you can see, we tore it out and I tore apart her empty bin to try and see if she'll smell herself and come back.

Posting now because it feels like we've done everything we can to find her but I have no idea what else to do. Most of the advice I was seeing online was just to set mice out and wait but it's been 4-5 days of having pinkies (alternating when rot) out and she isn't out or caught or anything. The only thing I can really do is clear areas but the more I clear the less confident I feel we can find her simply by looking or tearing my room apart.

How do I find her in a room the size of this?
