Recipe A cooking hack for dressing…

It’s time to prepare for holiday cooking. My aunt taught me this:
From now until it is time to make make the dressing, do not toss out leftover or stale bread. No matter what type it is… biscuits, cornbread, toast/untoasted sandwich bread, rolls, etc. Put it into a ziplock and freeze it.

Thaw and use it for your stuffing along with:
Fresh celery, onion, garlic and bell pepper, chopped.
Broth
Sugar (a tiny bit)
Pepper
Sage
Butter

Optional:
Boiled, chopped giblets

put a paper towel in with any untoasted bread when you freeze it.

What does it do?

Absorbs moisture, prevents soggy bread when defrosting.

Put paper towels in with things like spinach in the fridge too. Makes a huge difference!

Oh good idea! That will catch All that water that makes ice crystals and soggy bread

Also, freeze it in a ziplock bag, using a drinking straw to suck as much of the air out as you can without crushing the bread before sealing it.

Take the frozen bread out the day before you make the dressing and put in a large container to thaw and dry out. Day of, boil the giblets in 3 cups of water to use in the dressing or your gravey.

I never have leftover bread lol but this is a great hack! Never would have thought of it. Thanks for sharing.

Hardboiled eggs are also a great addition to dressing.
