How do you deal with negative client feedback and self-doubt in consulting?
I’m an IT consultant and recently delivered a paid workshop.
Out of 12 participants, 2–3 were dissatisfied, mainly because they expected more technical depth, clearer structure, and more hands-on practice.
One participant sent me a more detailed negative feedback, copying the partner company.
I’ve proactively scheduled a meeting with my managers to discuss it.
I have also emailed the partner and also shared the both positive and negative feedback.
What makes this harder is that I’ve had two other delivery setbacks over the past two years: a PoC that didn’t meet customer expectations and an internal project that dragged on too long.
My managers haven’t explicitly questioned my competence, but I’m worried these incidents are adding up. 😭
The latest feedback hit me hard. I felt ashamed, anxious, and started questioning whether I’m actually good at my job. 😳
How do you deal with situations like this? How do you rebuild confidence after setbacks and distinguish normal consulting challenges from a genuine performance problem?
