News Nordstrom Rack, known for lower-cost luxury shopping, set to open this week
As Columbia’s retail market continues to grow, Seattle-based fashion retailer Nordstrom Rack is the latest national chain to set up shop in town.
Nordstrom’s discount chain, which offers name-brand clothing, shoes and accessories at reduced prices, joins Trader Joe’s in the former Macy’s building at the Shoppes at Stadium, 201 N. Stadium Blvd., Suite 105. The store will officially open Thursday.
An hour before Tuesday’s invitation-only preview event, Columbia shoppers were already lined up outside the doors, waiting for their first look inside.
Beyond the entrance, pop music played throughout the store as employees lined the aisles, ready to welcome shoppers into the new space.
Rows of fully stocked clothing racks filled the store, with handbags, sunglasses, cosmetics and shoes displayed throughout the 25,000-square-foot space. Shoppers could browse merchandise from brands including Madewell, Levi’s, Free People, Callaway, Tory Burch, Kate Spade and Gucci, with name-brand items advertised at discounts of up to 70%.
The Columbia location is part of Nordstrom Rack’s continued expansion across the country, according to a January 2026 news release. As of October, Nordstrom had nearly 400 locations nationwide.
When Nordstrom announced the Columbia location in January, the company operated two Nordstrom stores and two Nordstrom Rack locations in Missouri. The Columbia store will be the third Nordstrom Rack in the state.
For some Columbia shoppers, the arrival of national retailers also means fewer trips to larger cities.
Lifelong Columbia resident Shannon Patterson said she has visited Nordstrom Rack stores in other cities but didn’t expect one to open locally.
“It’s not something that I thought we were going to get, but I am excited that it’s here,” Patterson said.
Patterson said she has noticed Columbia’s shopping options expanding within the past few years, pointing to the additions of Trader Joe’s, Lululemon and J.Crew Factory.
With more retailers opening in Columbia, she said she’s less likely to travel to larger cities like St. Louis or Kansas City or shop online.
According to the release, Nordstrom reported that its four existing Missouri stores supported more than 200 jobs statewide. This number does not include the new Columbia location.

Rant Small littering rant
I’m genuinely trying to understand what possesses someone to throw their trash out of a car window directly onto someone else’s yard. 😭
I was minding my business when I looked out my window and watched a woman casually toss trash out of the passenger window of a parked vehicle. They were there to pick someone up from the bus stop, so they weren’t even residents of the block.
Naturally, I went outside and asked her to pick it up.
I even offered to roll out my trash can if they needed somewhere to put it. Because surely we haven’t reached a point where properly disposing of our trash is an unreasonable expectation?
It’s not even about the trash itself. It’s the casual disregard for someone else’s property, as though the yard belongs to a public dumping ground.
I know it’s a small thing in the grand scheme of life, but knowing I would’ve been the one left to clean up after a complete stranger? Absolutely not.
Anyway, thank you for attending my neighborhood littering TED Talk. I’m still baffled.

Politics Vote!
I realize that this is a midterm election and we don't have many contested races but the other issues on the ballot are extremely important. Once again if you haven't voted or plan to vote on election day please check out the issues and vote.

Rant Flag without corporate logo
The Columbia MO city flag isn't too bad as far as city flags go, however I personally don't think it's quite good enough that I would have the desire to hang it from my front porch. The reason being is there is a large corporate logo in the middle. Which isn't a bag logo as far as logos go, but in my opinion it's not really something that should be on a flag.
I know the flag is fairly new, selected only 10 years ago but anyway I wonder if others would share my opinion. My proposal for new flag would be to simply remove the corporate logo and keep the cross roads theme representing our place in the state with the blue and green representing the many creeks and parks.

Ask CoMo Looking for HVAC duct cleaning company recs
Has anyone had this done and was satisfied with a company's work and results? We always seem to have a constant layer of dust accumulating on the floor and carpet. My wife believes that it is coming in through the ductwork.

Ask CoMo Any good camping sites in Columbia?
Someone posted about camping in this subreddit and made me think if Columbia has some good ones. I know of Cooper's Landing. I tend to go camping all year around just not in the dead of winter yet.

Housing Apartment for Fall 2027
Okay need advice friends. I believe I will be attending law school in Columbia next fall. With that being said, I have always lived at home for school, so I am not sure on the timeline and specifics of looking for somewhere to live lol. I do plan to live alone and know I want a one bedroom. When should I start touring apartments and when is normal timing for signing a lease for next fall?
Any other advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Thank you in advance!
