Patience and an ability to communicate are the most paramount

Well, that's me out :)

Jokes aide, you guys seem to churn through mods quickly ? Burnout ? disillusioned with mankind ? bored ?

I disagree with much of the stuff posted here, so my philosophy on what direction the sub has headed in eg Covid, go to the Covid sub if you're fascinated with that particular Zoonotic disease.

I'd say the average mod's active lifespan (most stay mods even after becoming inactive) is 4-6 months. It varies and is hard to measure the less quantitative actions.

We only average a handful of active mods at a time though, which is why we've had about three of these kinds of posts over the past year. The old guard didn't even use them, they approached people individually they thought would be a good fit. I prefer this approach.

Modding can be fairly tiring and difficult. The issues discussed here are also complex and polarizing enough we get a decent amount of offensive content and comments.

Applied, I'm hoping that with this approach you can fetch a few people with the experience and drive to last longer than half a year ;-)

Modding takes its toll, and collapse particularly so. But there are benefits.

It’s all volunteer

Of course, we know that (presumably we all do ?) It's why I wouldn't ever entertain being a mod, I have zero interest in making Reddits owners rich by my volunteer work. I sometimes don't even understand why I post for that same reason :) I guess with posting I can come and go when I see fit. Hell, I was happy with Usenet back in the day, Reddit just commodified that.

but best of luck to you all.

how often do mods permanently ban people here and do they ever use ip address specific for the bans?

We issue about twenty bans per week. Only a few of them are permanent. We can't see user data related to IP address or anything as granular as that, only Reddit admins can. If we see someone who is trying to evade a ban and still breaking the sub rules our only option is to try and report them to the admins.

How do you report a user to the admins?

If you need a tip on modding, Pushshift is a really handy tool to see all past history of users, including deleted posts so you can know who evaded ban.

Mods can't see or ban IP addresses. I'm a mod on another sub and we sometimes have people come back with an alternate account. It becomes a game of whack-a-mole, but normally we can message the Reddit admins and they'll take care of it.

Good luck, I lurk, I think I have only posted here once or twice, but if that changes it will be tempting.

We don't need mods. We all gonna die anyway!

I totally would because I, GenX, raised on 70s & 80s dystopia, feel super duper hopeless, but on occasion I feel like I have just the barest, smidgiest glimmer of itty bitty shiny future, so I should probably be sacrificed to the collapse gods instead.

What’s the pay and does it include a free mod car ?

The best reason to ban folk, they are redditors? ;-)

I could never be a mod. I don't choose to be concerned about words that others write no matter what the rules. Words are easy. Taking actions/boycotting are difficult for so many. And people are too sensitive & easily offended. Anyone can call me what one chooses, they may be right.

I'm reporting EffenNuts to the administrators,he's an a _ _hole!

Those that are offended, post "Yes" those that aren't,post "NO".

Big ;-)
