meme What is ICPC doing with the entry fees (1.23 CR)

Same as the title says. A total of 5500 teams participated. Say 50% teams applied to 1 and 50% applied to 2 regions.

Total money in entry fees: 5500 * 1500 * 1.5 = 1,23,75,000

Even if they pay problem setters 50K per problem and some hosting charges, where is the most of the money going?

And it's not like regionals are free. 4500 per team extra is having to be paid to go there.

Changing the Amrita cutoff - to include more colleges just seems to be like a money making prospect rather than spreading the love cp.

I am not saying we have a problems with paying the entry fees. I am saying, if I am paying so much, I should get the returns on that. They did not even have good proctoring.

Honestly we are a team ranked in top 200 in icpc, and this is genuinely disappointing.

query ICPC India 2026: If suspected teams have to retest, how will the October 30 final ranklist work?

From what I understand, ICPC India has said that teams suspected of plagiarism may be asked to solve two problems of a similar difficulty level to those they solved during the online preliminary contest. meanwhile, the final ranklist is scheduled to be released on 30th

I'm confused about how these two things fit together, and I wanted to understand the process from people who might know more about it.

  1. Have the retest emails already been sent? Have only teams suspected of plagiarism been contacted, or are they still reviewing submissions and contacting teams?
  2. When will the retests happen? If some teams still need to solve two problems under supervision, will these retests take place before October 30?
  3. What happens if the final ranklist is released before the retests? Would the October 30 list be provisional, with changes made later depending on the retest results?
  4. What if a team passes the retest? Would they retain their original rank and eligibility, or would their preliminary performance be evaluated again?
  5. What exactly does “final ranklist” mean in this situation? If teams can still be disqualified or cleared after October 30, will there be another updated list?

I'm not trying to speculate about any particular team. I just want to understand the timeline and selection process, since the ranklist determines which teams qualify for the regionals.

query ICPC Amritapuri changed criteria

ICPC Amritapuri criteria during registration phase:

Band Rank range Institutional cap
Top tier 1–50 None
Second tier 51–100 X per institution
Third tier 101–200 Y per institution
Remaining 201+ 1 per institution per pass, repeated

ICPC Amritapuri criteria now:

Band Rank range Institutional cap
Top tier 1–50 No institutional limit
Second tier 51–100 X teams per institution
Third tier 101–140 Y teams per institution
Remaining 141–360 One team per institution which has no team in top 140 per pass

According to the old criteria, teams beyond 200 get selected one per college. As per the new criteria, one team beyond 140 per college which has no team in top 140.

The criteria changed well after the contest. Our colleges ranking are like this:
Team #1: top 20
Team #2: top 100
Team #3: top 200 (us)

2 criteria were changed. If either of the two was not changed, we would have qualified. Any suggestions about what can be done here? We have asked our coach to send an email to Amritaicpc officials. Anything else can be done?

Rant: They cannot change the rules like they want after the regional happens. Our college being a very competitive one, we think we plan and split regions among ourselves. Now due to them changing the criteria, we are losing the chance to go to Amritapuri.

query What are your views on AI replacing SWE jobs??

Like every other day, we have again got a news about a planned layoffs/ restructuring in a big organisation, I am not even going to talk about the specific news. I have come on the conclusion that days will pass on and such news will keep on coming again and again. I have even stopped reacting to these news nowadays no matter how big the number of impact is. Many of us do cp for the love of game and as a hobby, but alongwith hobby, importance of cp for getting a job also cant be neglected, if their are no jobs, what is the point of even doing cp, nobody aint doing cp lifelong just as hobby if he/ she has no money to support his/ her family.

What are your views on AI replacing SWE jobs in future? I want to know what does the smartest folks in computer science think about this.

Doubt (rated <= 1200) Feeling stuck

Been like 1.5 years since i have been doing cf and have been stuck around 1100 rating. I have solved around 450 questions(no I don't practice 800-900 rated) , i practice mostly 1200-1400 questions. Issue with me is I am able to come up with most of the solution but like my thoughts get kind of messy and i mess up in some place or the other, maybe read question wrong or like make a dumb silly logical mistake. Sometimes I am able to solve hard questions easily sometimes easy questions I get stuck. Don't know if I should continue

query I made a Codeforces widget for the iPhone home screen - rating, heatmap, next contest (open source)

Post image
0 Upvotes

LeetCode has had home screen widgets for years. Codeforces doesn't, so I built one.

It shows your rating and rank in the actual rank colour, solved count and streak, a submission heatmap, and the next contest with a countdown. Small, medium and lock screen sizes.

No login, no API key, just the public API.

The annoying part was the solved count. There's no endpoint for it, so you have to pull submissions and de-dupe them. A full history is about 3.4MB, which is fine in the app and way too much for a widget extension. So the app does the big scan once and writes a small snapshot into an App Group, and the widget only refreshes around 1,200 submissions when the cache goes stale.

Caveat: I'm not paying for the developer program, so there's no App Store or TestFlight build. It's MIT and on GitHub. Clone it, run Tools/setup.sh, build in Xcode with your free Apple ID. Those expire every 7 days, so there's a renew.sh that rebuilds and reinstalls in one command.

Happy to hear what's missing or broken.

query How to think of edge cases?

So I am a newbie(rating around 1k) and in today's contest I was only able to solve A. Not like I didn't understand B and C. I got the question....and also came up with the algo for both B and C...but wasn't able to handle edge cases and hence it failed. Specially in q2...where i made long ass cases and did dry run and my code was giving correct output...but on submitting it was giving wrong answer and of course during contest we can't see on what TC it is failing. And after contest when i checked...the test case was pretty lame...and after seeing test case i submitted my code within 10 minutes and it passed all cases.

So yeah...please guide me how to like think of edge cases during contest. The sh*t was genuinely frustrating.
