Mold?

I think ive been hit with mold.

2 difference ciders here. Both pretty simple 1 gallon apple juice 1 tsp yeast nutrient and half a pack of 71B yeast.

We started these yesterday around 3pm. They were slow to start but the airlocks have been under pressure this entire time. Everything was sanitized with a starsan solution. Just havent had one of these pop off with mold so fast.

From the photos doesn't look very mouldy. You know what the fluffy appearance you get on old bread. also that's a short amount of time to get mould considering you pitched a bunch of yeast in to compete. Definitely don't ditch it yet.

Also the time you pitched yesterday is meaningless without knowing what time it is now.

😆 yeah I noticed i never put the current time. Its 9am. So not even 24 hours. Definitely not mold but waking up and seeing it scared the crap out of me.

Might not be mold. I picked some up with a sanitized spoon. Just looked foamy and slightly thick. Might be something from the yeast/nutrient. Doesn't smell off. Im going to let it keep fermenting and see what happens i guess.

Looks like SCOBY, or it’s aspergillus.

Looks like kahm yeast, I wouldn’t worry. What temperature are you fermenting at?

Yeah so 24 hours at that temp is no problem, almost certainly Kahm yeast or other yeast byproducts.
