Buying Advice Finally time to replace my Pixelbook…
I’ve had the Google Pixelbook since 2017 and have absolutely loved it! Unfortunately it’s finally starting to get a little glitchy, and I know next year it will no longer get updates. I need recommendations for another Chromebook that has a similar look/feel as well as excellent performance. I use it for personal and work tasks, mostly work. A typical day includes a video call, then mostly using about 3-5 tabs at a time with a mixture of Gmail, Google keep, Google Sheets, and my medical EMR website. My main priorities are smooth, efficient processing when multiple tabs are open and when a video call is going. I don’t care at all about touch screen capabilities. I love the feel of my Chromebook with its slim design, metal casing, and keyboard. Before it, I had a MacBook Pro. I also love that it is fan-less. Any recommendations for a good Pixelbook replacement? I seldom use AI so I’m not sold on the new Googlebook. Budget is anything under $1k but would like to stay closer to the $600 range.

Yeah, Pixelbook loyalty is real. Try the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14, it's fanless, about 2.5 lb, with a great keyboard that handles a few tabs and video calls well. Get the base model with 12GB RAM and no touchscreen to stay near $650, since the touch 16GB version runs closer to $1000. Heads up, check the current price first.

Oh I didn’t realize there were two different models of it! I just saw the $1000 one at Best Buy. I’ll check out the base model because I don’t really care about a touchscreen!

Any modern Chromebook Plus would match your needs. The new chips have been great, and the 8 GB RAM is perfectly optimized. For me I use the HP Chrombook Plus 14c x360 as my daily driver, and i always have 20-30 plus tabs open (some suspended) on Zoom and Teams, have youtube playing music, and Bluetooth headphones connected off and on, with google message app open, WhatsApp, and so on. It performs great, fast, and with no bugs/lag, but the battery life is jsut decent.
I also ordered a Lenovo Chrombook Plus 14 with the ARM chip, so I'm giving that a try for the longer battery life.

Thank you for the recommendations! Do you feel like the Lenovo is worth the $999 price tag it’s currently at?

No, oh no, lol, Best buy keeps having it go down in price like every 3 days so check there. I'm getting one that's open box, a "good" selection between the 3 open box selections. One was on sale for $500 yesterday; I added it to my cart but forgot to check out, and the price went back up. I imagine the price will be back down Sunday or Monday.
Under $600 from BB its a deal, not at $1000
On eBay, there are some under $500, and that's a great price.
The Acer Chrombook 514 with the MediaTek 910 ultra chip is really good too, it just doesnt have a fingerprint reader, and thats a must have for me after 2022

Awesome, thanks! Yes Best Buy is where it’s currently $1000. I will keep an eye on the price over the next few days and check out eBay too!

Yes, keep watching, over the last 10 days it's been on sale several times there, so I imagine Sunday it will be back down again.
I also put up a post yesterday asking about the long-term reviews on the Lenovo; you can look for that, and most people said it's been great long-term.
Happy shopping!

I'd definitely wait for a bit until Googlebooks get cheaper variants. I know it's not great right now, but it's going through growing pains. Give it a few months and I reckon you could have a nice Googlebook for ~$600. Googlebooks are not just for people who use AI - they are technologically superior to chromebooks in every single measure. It's just growing pains right now.

I love my ASUS CX34 Chromebook Plus which is still my main daily driver despite my investing in an ASUs Googlebook! The only negative is it does not have a touchscreen but I believe they do make a touchscreen version I can fully recommend ASSUS build quality.

I have an Acer gaming Chromebook and I just picked up a Googlebook and I think the googlebook is better. It's what ChromeOS should have been by now

We have a windows HP and it drives me crazy with constant pop-ups and slow performance. Is the Chromebook that way too?

Perfect, that’s what I was hoping to hear! I’m looking now to see where I can find it in stock. Thank you!

Best machine I've ever owned. I bought a couple used 32 GB i7 variants for around $300 and they still had the Gemini Pro 1y free offer, so that's $60 net! Updates until 2032.
