I’ve had chickens for years now and I’ve never seen one do this. He started doing this as a baby chick & we always thought he probably won’t last very long. He’s 4 now. My parents were watching our animals when my husband & I went away recently & he called me upset because he thought he was dying 😆
Also being a vet tech and working with chickens I’ve always been told they can’t breathe on their backs 🤷♀️

Say hi to Rice (barred rock) and Louise (RIR) with her defective comb.
I sat down with an egg bagel and a cup of coffee. They too wanted an egg bagel and a cup of coffee.

Got tired of the muddy run after the rain and wet poop getting trudged into the dirt so after letting it dry in the sun for a few days I cleaned everything up and covered the run in pine shavings.
When I put the chickens back in the run they FREAKED TF OUT bouncing from wall to wall trying to escape lmao. Granted, they have been in the dirt run for the past 5 weeks but they spent the first two months of their lives in a big doggy crate with the same shavings! Here they are acting like this is the first time they’ve seen pine shavings in their entire life! Silly butts!
I was too slow to grab my phone so I missed most of the chaos. 2nd pic you can see one of them frantically trying to fit on top of the feeder. Last pic the tiniest little girl was the only one brave enough to step onto the shavings.

these are from almost 2 years ago. They didn't stay in this box, they had just been brought home.

Anyone else make egg/leftover stew for their birds? 😂 I do this maybe once a month with anything in the fridge that needs to go+any unsold eggs!

(stock picture for privacy reasons but the one I'm talking about looks about the same)
Context: I'm trying to get more, and she's my parents' chicken. i just need help on what to do meanwhile
I know chicks shouldn't be raised alone because they're social animals, but my parents decided to keep this single chick as a pet. I don't even know where they got it from!
I live in a pretty unreachable area, but I still tried to get in contact with a farmer to try to get more chicks. The bad thing is, I will probably be waiting a few more weeks until his chicks are old enough to survive the trip all the way here.
I've already raised this one on my own for four weeks before being able to get in contact with the farmer, and I'm afraid she might get lonely. There's still the possibility that the farmer ends up not hatching enough chicks and that I would have to wait even more to get her some siblings. Buying more online is out of the question, as I said I live in a pretty unreachable area & I don't have any money.
So far what I've done is just playing with her a lot. She sleeps in my bed to not get too cold (I know it's dangerous, but my bed is pretty big and I don't move a lot, I'm a very light sleeper)
I've been also letting her run around in my room instead of outside, and she sits on my lap for pets very often. I've considered getting it a mirror, but I'm afraid it might damage her social skills even more, or that it could be bad for her like with parrots.
This is my first time raising chickens, or any birds for that matter, so any tips on anything would be very appreciated.

There’s a dumped rooster in a very dangerous location that also has lots of forest to hide in. Sometimes he comes out to the parking lot to find food from people but it seems once you put any effort into catching him, he hides. I have a drop trap but he seems to recognize it, and I’d rather not wait all day for him to roost.

Do people think the are Hens or Roosters and cam anyone identify the breeds?
I've had them for two months now after trading someone for three beautiful roosters (a Leghorn Exchequer, a Black Copper Maran, and a Lavender Maran). They don't appear to have spurs developing, very small combs and waddles, and they don't seem to have saddle feathers or long narrow hackle feathers to my novice eye. However, I was told they were a bit over four months old when we taxes and I still haven't seen any eggs.

I noticed she was broody. I've been taking her out of the nest box every day but she's also from Puerto Rico and hates cold so I figured maybe she was just trying to stay warm. I never saw an egg under her when I moved her. I guess it was buried in the pine shavings? Anyways it hatched. Now I've hatched eggs in an incubator and used a brooder before, but if I want to let her raise it, what do I need to do? Do I need to get a different food? Different feeder and waterer that it can reach? If I put one on the ground for it, how do I get the others to keep it clean? Will mom show it where to eat/drink or do I need to take it out? There's only 1 so I don't want to put it in a brooder by itself.

I have 2 hens. One has a clutch of 3 a month old. The second just hatched a clutch of 3 maybe 4 🤷 just saw the hatch this evening in the nesting box.
I have a problem with rats. The eat eggs an baby chicks at night.
I have been putting the month old chicks with mum in a grow up cage at night.
Need to do the same with the new clutch.
Will there be a hen problem when the two share the cage at night?
The cage is 4 ft long by 3 ft deep and 2 ft high.
Thanks.

Need help!!!
We have a "suicidal chicken"! Lol She grew up with a turkey, George, then was moved to another pen (for her damn safety, mind you) . They still can see each other at any and all times, but she's taken not being able to cuddle much worse than even some humans ...her pen has to be checked multiple times a day bc her dumbass likes to get herself stuck in the most ridiculous of ways and places! Well, now she has injured a wing so she got a nice little vacation into the house in a crate.
We can't just call her "Suicidal Chicken" all the time (we can but that's kinda rude, might hurt her feelings if she hears us) so we need help naming her. Please make it appropriate to her actions yet clever enough she won't quite understand the meaning behind it (in case she ever hears us talking about her).
Thank you for your kind concern! 😁 We look forward to hearing some wonderfully ridiculous names 🤣🤣🤣
