Don't speed on Legion Rd
I saw two pulls in the last 10 minutes. They're waiting today.

Hey neighbors! As a first time homeowner who has owned for about 4 years, I'm shocked at how much home service quotes (HVAC, plumbing, electrical) differ for the exact same job.
I wanted a transparent way to check fair local pricing, so I built trianglepricebook.com.
It’s an anonymous, crowdsourced tool where Triangle residents can share and compare quotes.
Check it out, let me know what you think, and if you’ve received a quote recently, please take a quick minute to submit it to help out our neighbors!

I'm a young millennial professional, and I drive to UNC's campus every day.
This is the first year I've noticed e-bikes and scooters becoming a problem like this. From what I see, riders are not obeying the rules of the road, and I rarely see a helmet or any safety gear.
Let me be clear: I'm not against e-bikes or scooters. They're a reasonable way to get around. My concern is that the way they're being ridden around campus right now is going to get someone seriously hurt or killed.
What makes it worse is the heavy construction in the areas around the student store and the recreation facility. In my experience driving through there, I don't see Chapel Hill police or crossing guards helping manage the traffic, and that is exactly where cars, pedestrians, and fast riders are all squeezed together.
And there's a question I keep coming back to as a driver: if one of these riders ends up in my path and I hit them, what happens to me? Does it matter that they weren't following the rules, or is the driver left holding the worst day of their life? I don't want to find out, and I don't want any student or driver in this town to find out either.

I volunteer at the Wake County Animal Center and run NC Pet Project, a small volunteer effort pulling North Carolina's shelter data into one place. Orange County stood out in the state's 2025 numbers, in a good way.
Orange County's public shelter in 2025:
3,108 dogs and cats taken in
2,481 adopted out
273 returned to their owners
221 euthanized, which is 7.1% of everything that came in
The statewide rate is 26.0%. Out of the 56 NC counties that took in at least 750 animals, Orange had the 6th lowest rate. Durham, right next door, was at 33.5%.
Orange's full breakdown, with sources: https://ncpetproject.org/counties/orange/
A big part of keeping that number low is spay/neuter, and Orange has options a lot of counties don't:
Orange County Spay/Neuter Program: free vouchers if you qualify by income or get DSS benefits, plus a free community cat program (there's a $50 refundable deposit for the trap). It can take up to 2 months to get a voucher, so call early: (919) 942-7387
Orange County Community Animal Clinic is still doing spay/neuter, though routine wellness visits are paused for now. Same number: (919) 942-7387
You can search any ZIP for other options here: https://ncpetproject.org/get-help/
There are also 106 dogs and 304 cats waiting right now at Orange shelters and rescues (Orange County Animal Services, Cat Tales Rescue, Longleaf Animal Rescue and others). Each listing links straight to the group that handles the adoption: https://ncpetproject.org/counties/orange/#adoptable-pets
Not every county has options like these. There's a petition asking the General Assembly to fund low-cost spay/neuter in every county. Orange has 76 signatures, ahead of Chatham with 67. Durham has 177. 😉 https://ncpetproject.org/counties/orange/#sign
If you work or volunteer with OCAS, I'd love to hear what you think makes the difference here.

I know this is probably a long shot, but sometimes you just have to put yourself out there and hope for the best!
We're a family of four with two young children, searching for an affordable place to call home in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area. Our budget is around $1,000–$1,300 a month, and we're hoping to find at least a 2-bedroom home.
We're a hardworking family doing our best to make things work! I'm employed full-time with UNC Health, and my husband is a graduate student at UNC Chapel Hill. We're currently living in UNC graduate family housing, but our time here is coming to an end, so we're searching for our next home.
We don't have a huge budget, but we do have a great rental history. We always pay our rent on time, take good care of our home, and would treat someone else's property with the same respect.
Our kids are already attending school here, and one of our biggest hopes is to find somewhere that will allow us to stay in the CHCCS school district. They've built friendships and a sense of belonging here, and we'd love nothing more than to give them that stability without having to uproot them from the school and community they've grown to love.
We're not looking for anything fancy or expecting someone to give us something for nothing. Just a safe, decent place to raise our family at a price we can realistically afford.
I realize our budget is well below what most rentals are going for these days, and believe me, I've spent countless hours searching! But I'm holding out hope that maybe, just maybe, there's a private landlord out there with a smaller home, duplex, townhouse, or apartment who would appreciate having responsible, dependable, long-term tenants.
We're more than happy to provide proof of income, payment history, and anything else that would help give a potential landlord peace of mind.
I know finding something in our price range won't be easy, but I also don't want to miss an opportunity simply because I was afraid to ask.
So here I am, shooting my shot! If you have something available, know someone who might, or have any leads, I'd genuinely appreciate hearing from you.
Thank you for reading and for any kindness or suggestions you can offer. ❤️
Edit: We don't currently have pets!
