TAN Books Quality Control Issues
Recently I ordered both the cloth-over-board and the leatherette version of the new Douay Rheims reader's edition, intending to see how both felt in the hand and then return one or the other.
However, both had substantial quality issues, namely with the first signature on the cloth-over-board being poorly cut (jagged like a kid with scissors), the headband being nearly a full cm out of place, and with the leatherette certain pages in the Pauline epistles being faded like a printer running out of ink.
I returned both and got a replacement leatherette, only for that bible to also have significant issues, with the cover being not remotely straight on the textblock, the corners being cut all wonky, and pages inside the bible having weird wrinkles as if someone had handled them with wet hands.
So when I got a another replacement- the 4th bible I've now had my hands on- I was both somewhat pleased that it was better than the others and also annoyed that this also had a couple flaws. The gilding has plenty of scratches and blemishes right out of the packages, which, ok fine that's common. But the exact same pages of the Pauline epistles were faded again, albeit not remotely as bad as the first leatherette (it's at least clearly readable, unlike the first one). Oh and there's already a small rip/notch in the first page, again right of the packaging, nothing I did.
I'm now deciding basically whether to return this one for a fifth bible or whether I should just accept a couple of faded pages and blemishes and be happy it isn't worse. Perhaps God is teaching me not to be so nit-picky.
Anyone else had similar problems with TAN books before though? It seems bizarre to me that on a bible that, though not premium, is not cheap either (nearly $100 CAD!) they can't print pages properly or put a cover on straight.
