Shredded Chicken Wet Food?

• Upvotes

my kitty loves shredded chicken, and I’m having trouble finding wet food with that texture that is relatively cheap and has the necessary nutrients. any recommendations would be appreciated!

eg he loves applaws but it’s pricey and doesn’t have any nutrients added.

food or treat review Purina fancy feast chicken feast classic pate

I bought a 12 pack at petco and I've already opened 2 more before this but looked and smelled normal. Earlier I opened the one on the left and it looked odd to me and smelled strange. I opened another one ( right side) and it was normal. Luckily I paid attention because I don't want to give my kitten a bad can of food and cause an upset stomach. It has the same expiration date on the bottom July 2028 so I don't think it was a bad batch. Maybe the can wasn't sealed properly. Just be on the lookout if you feed your cat this. I'm going to try to look for the receipt so I can maybe get another can to replace the loss one.

advice wanted! Newb questions - how much to feet my cat? Is there affordable no-fish food?

Hello,

I've always worried over my cats' health, and done my best I can afford. I have a 14yo boy cat around 18lbs. I'm trying to give him more wet food, maybe eliminate all dry completely. Currently he eats Purina One sensitive stomach dry food. He has an allergy to fish and I've tried to feed him fancy feast but even things labeled as chicken or turkey have mystery fish meat in them, and I want to avoid that. Is there any truly fish free food available? chicken or turkey are acceptable.

I also am not sure how can food feeding is portioned. Do most cats eat 1/day? 3/day? I can't figure it out.

Thanks for all your help!

ISO: weruva freeze dried, but for kittens

Post image

I’m looking for something comparable to this - Weruva freeze dried fully cooked - but for kittens. This version is fully balanced for adult cats, but my kitten goes nuts for it so I use it for training treats (kind of a significant amount since she’ll sustain interactions for quite a while). I’d love to give her something designed for kittens if possible. Cat tax in comments.

advice wanted! Is Purina Friskies Prime Filet wet food suitable for 3mo kittens?

Hello everyone. Can 3 month old kittens be fed this brand of wet food? My kitten is 3 months old. I am confused because the packaging for this box says "100% complete + balanced for adult cats" and I remember reading that if it says 100% complete then it can be fed to kittens, but the packaging for this also says "includes all essential nutrients that support the maintenance of adult cats"

So is it for adults only?

labels, packaging, etc. Am I crazy or is lidl's new brand of cat food surprisingly good?

I've been feeding my 2 cats lidl's Coshida premium pate but they discontinued it and introduced their new in-house brand Mila's world.

Am I crazy or is this ingredients list actually good? I'm attaching photos from Google translate because there's no English on the label. The first 2 are the premium "gourmet" 400g cans and the 3rd is the dry food.

The cans are 1.20€ and the dry food is 3.79. I'm guessing that they're this cheap because they're new and they want to attract buyers but I've bought cat food that was at least twice as expensive and had grains and other fillers in it.

Has Schesir discontinued the dry cat food “sterilized& light“ with grains? 🤔

Hi,

For more than a year I have been feeding my cat with Schesir’s sterilized&light dry cat food (with** **grains) and I have been so happy with the quality and price of it. It took me a while to find the right dry food for him, as he had in the past diarrhea episodes when he was on grain free dry foods. Now I noticed that it’s not available anymore on Schesir’s website nor on zooplus (I’m based in Northern Europe). Only the grain free versions are available (https://www.schesir.com/en/collections/sterilized-cat) which I’m not opting for for various reasons. Does anybody know if Schesir has discontinued the version with grains? I have sent a mail to the company and waiting still for a reply.

Thanks ! 🙏

advice wanted! food reccs for my 5y old male cat that stopped wanting wet food as much?

I used to have my cat on a wet food only diet with the occasional dry food as a treat, or if I wouldn’t be home for a day or 2. Especially because he doesn’t drink a lot of water, and I’ve been worried about his water intake. He probably visits the water bowl once or twice a day from what I’ve seen. He doesn’t like the fountain that I got, but maybe I could try a different one (?)

That being said, he leaves a lot of his wet food in the bowl now compared to years ago when he would lick the bowl clean. He begs me for dry food when there is still wet food in the bowl. I put the food as far away as I can put it from his water in our small apartment), and he will leave a lot of his can (2.8oz) of wet food in the bowl for hours, which makes me worried about it going bad, so I end up throwing about 1/4-1/2 of it out after a while. I’ve been giving dry food on top of his breakfast/lunch and he started eating it so fast he puked a couple times, so I’ve started using a slow feeder bowl. He will still just eat the kibble and leave the wet food for hours.

I’ve tried different brands- fancy feast pate and mousse, tiki cat varieties, churu mousse, and a handful of other grocery store brands. He likes the churu mousse most it seems, then tiki cat chicken. He also likes a churu lick treat. Ive tried warming up the food, and mushing it up with a bit of water.

I want to switch him to a full wet food diet bc I’m worried about his hydration and urinary/kidney issues that may arise. I will also need to hire a sitter for the first time soon and am worried about him not eating his food while I’m gone. Any advice would be much appreciated !

TL;DR- my cat is no longer interested in his wet food, I’ve tried different brands/slow feeder, but he still leaves a lot of it in the bowl. looking for suggestions for a path forward

advice wanted! Puree pouch toppers to supplement an all-dry diet?

Obligatory cat picture tax.

Warning up top this gets pretty TMI about my cat's gross bowel movements, but I mean we're in a cat food subreddit surely this is par for the course. I'm also realizing in hindsight this post got a lot longer than I expected it to. Thanks if you read it all.

My cat is 9 years old, his name is Rupert. I'm aware that this is something people will chide me for, but I've never given him wet food until recently. I work weird hours and have almost always relied on an automatic dry food dispenser for his feeding to be at consistent times, and figured he was perfectly happy and healthy with his dry-only diet. I even got a running water fountain to encourage him to drink more water.

A few months ago, I took him to the vet for a checkup after my other cat passed suddenly, and the vet implied in no uncertain terms that, in his opinion, I had to be giving him wet food. Especially because he's a bit overweight (16 pounds-- I say only "a bit" because another vet once weighed him, saw he was 14, and said "Huh-- he's 14 pounds, but he's not fat, I can feel his ribs, he's just huge.") and by his metric I was also overfeeding him on dry food anyway. Idk.

So I started giving him Friskies pate along with cutting down on his dry food. This was seemingly going fine, but my cousin told me that Friskies was, according to her vet, the "McDonalds of cat food" and I should start feeding him something better for him, especially if I was concerned about his weight. She recommended the Wellness brand. I was doing that for a bit. He was being very picky about it, and after landing on what I thought was the exact flavor he liked (chicken, mince not pate), and feeding it to him for one of his two daily meals, I thought we were good. Then I noticed that he had started bootscooting, and in hindsight it's obvious that this started around when I started giving him wet food, including the Friskies not just the Wellness brand, but this wasn't apparent to me until a couple weeks in, after he also started having pure wet diarrhea. After the second day in a row of wiping his butt, I debated with friends because I was like, I mean the vet said I need to give him wet food, what should I do? And they were like, if he's having diarrhea and bootscooting and he literally never did before you started giving him wet food, maybe just cut out the wet food and go back to normal. So I did. And his bowel movements immediately went back to normal.

Cut to a couple months later. He occasionally gets dandruff, it comes and goes, and I noticed it has returned today. (Part of me is wondering in hindsight if this is a seasonal thing with the winter.) I also noticed when trimming his claws that they seemed to be a bit brittle and broken up, like there were tufts of fabric in them that I thought were just wrapped around, but were kind of stuck in the cracks of his claws. This is leading me to believe he has a general dehydration problem that the water fountain hasn't been enough to fix. But, historically, it seems after a whole life without wet food, it doesn't agree with his tummy.

All this long-winded context to say, a friend mentioned to me once cat puree pouches, like pouches that are essentially toppers for food that introduce slightly more hydration into their diet but is not an entire can of wet food. I'm looking at the Tasteful brand puree toppers, and wondering if the Tasteful brand is good, or should I be looking at a different brand, or is this a red herring and there's something else I should be looking into to help with his hydration? Maybe some kind of supplement along with the pouch?

Some added context, the dry food I give him is Purina Cat Chow Naturals, and he only really gets treats before and after getting his claws trimmed, which are those dry Temptations treats. He also gets the occasional Churu, like once a month maybe.

advice wanted! how do i make sure my cats are eating enough?

Post image
2 Upvotes

the cat on the left is red, and the cat on the right is berry. red had to stay at the vet for a week because he was sick, and during that time, berry lost her appetite and started becoming a grazer. she eats a little at a time, but she does eventually finish her food. now that red is back home, i’m worried that berry might not be getting enough food. since she’s a grazer, she’ll eat a little, then walk away, which gives red the chance to finish both of their plates (he has a big appetite). by the time berry comes back to eat she only gets red’s leftovers, or sometimes even nothing. i’m worried that red might be eating too much while berry isn’t getting enough food.

Royal Canin Sensory Taste alternatives

Hi community!
I’m looking for some possible alternatives to Royal Canin Sensory Taste wet food packets for my picky cat. So far she only eats this and RC Hair and Skin but the price is becoming prohibitive.
Has anyone found a similar food for picky eaters, available in the EU?
Thanks and cat tax!

He can be fast asleep on the couch, but the second a snack bag rustles in the kitchen, he’s right there. Apparently, the ears work perfectly when food is involved.

advice wanted! food switch advice

i recently took in my friend’s 13 year old cat who i lived with in university. he’s always been super food motivated and has only ever eaten kibble because wet food tended to upset his tummy.

as he’s gotten older, his teeth have become worse and he’s not able to eat hard kibble like he used to. in the last week, he’s been switched over to wet food. unfortunately, he doesn’t seem interested in the slightest. he still has kibble out and we’ve tried mixing that with water but it doesn’t appeal to him. i’ve given him the churu tubes and he goes to town on those, so i know he’s interested in eating. im not sure if there’s something i can do to entice him to eat the new wet food?

i should also mention, i’ve noticed he mainly licks the wet food rather than going in for bites, so he can’t get the little pieces of food. not sure if there’s a food that would be helpful for this?

if anyone has any advice on cats being picky / how to transition them off the one food they’ve eaten forever, i would appreciate it!! anything helps :) thank you!

advice wanted! Any recommendations for dry food that helped with Scarf and Barf? Allergies?

Hi guys! I’m having issues with my 1-year-old cat throwing up his dry food shortly after he eats it. He had this issue when he was younger and he was on Hills Science Kitten so I switched him to sensitive stomach Kitten and the throwing up stopped.
He’s now been on Hills Science Adult Sensitive stomach for a few months and was fine until recently. Hes been throwing up much more the past month. It’s always full chunks of kibble and some that have been chewed. He’s fine with his wet food, no issues there.

I asked the vet about it when he was a kitten and she put him on the Hills Science Vet Sensitive option both dry and wet and he wouldn’t touch that. He is a very picky eater even now. I finally got him on wet food that he actually eats.

I’ve read some people on here who have very similar stories and their cat has IBS but before we go that route I thought I might try to change his food again. I don’t know if it’s a food sensitivity or simply just eating too fast. I just don’t understand what would trigger it on and off over the course of a year.

I have his automatic feeder set to the smallest portion which is 10g only 3 times a day. I almost think the bigger kibble is worse because even if it’s small amounts he inhales it.

All this to say, does anyone have recommendations of dry food that has been in this situation?
I’m thinking about trying a grain-free dry food since he’s only ever been on Hills Science and even the sensitive stomach has grains and corn. If anyone has recommendations here as well I’m all ears.

advice wanted! Having issues finding the right protein percentage

Thumbnail gallery
20 Upvotes

My old man went to the vet last week and was diagnosed with stage 2 kidney disease. She said what I've been feeding him is what she normally recommends, until a cat starts showing signs of kidney disease. So that's a plus I guess

Now she wants him on less than 30% fed as dry matter protein, but it must be wet food. I have looked at every single can in all of the good pet stores in my city and it's IMPOSSIBLE. I broadened my horizons and started bringing in foods I normally stay away from, but here's the fun part:

He's also allergic to poultry. No chicken, no turkey, no duck. So all the specialty food is out because they use chicken in everything.

I expanded the search even more to include what I consider junk food, and that's STILL too much protein.

This is a specialist vet who is extremely busy and charges $300 an hour. I have asked for help locating a food and she just doesn't have the time, and paying $300 for an appointment to discuss is absurd.

To recap:

<30% protein fed as dry matter (~8% crude protein, ~78% moisture)

Wet food only

No chicken, turkey, or duck

Help me obi-wan, you're my only hope

PS: why now of all times have pet food brands finally figured out that protein = good? Why NOW???

advice wanted! 2 cats, need a dry for both

I’ve been looking through and not seeing many close… so I apologize for the annoying question! 🤣

I have a 14yo gal, about small and round, but not inactive, 12lbs and the vet wouldn’t mind if she lost weight. She gets hot spots. She has been on Farmina Herring for 2 years now.

New addition is a big, lean 3yo orange boy. Food motivated, spent time outside with scars to prove it before I adopted him. He is 15.5lbs and vet likes his weight for his body. Currently eating Purina Cat Chow Complete Chicken.

Girl had some of his dry and threw it up fast.

Girl and boy both do not like Tiki Born Carnivore High Protein Herring & Salmon, him more than her. He left it in a bowl for hours and was hungry!

Seems like her hot spots are chicken related, so I skip chicken as much as possible (only her treats have some).

They will both being getting fish pate for dinner daily and she will continue to have all the Temptations treats she wants 😭

Ideas for a shared dry food for them?

3*80=240. The average 9lb cat is recommended ~190kcals. Am I missing something? Maybe this is the guideline for a nonfixed cat? I'm looking at budget foods rn randomly. Bored while having to pause packing for the laundry
