Discussion Talos

I kept hearing people say that the talos fight was hard but im really curious as to why people thought that. The fight itself was really simple and the timed part wasnt all that bad. Took me 2 tries. Can anyone give any insight on what everyone was having trouble with.

The pressure of the timed section, combined with the input lag and dropped inputs on the PS5 version, made it much harder to get through for me. The rest of the fight wasn’t a problem for me at all.

This isn’t me complaining. This is me explaining why the fight was harder for me than the others in the game. Isaac for example was third try for me I think and I almost beat him on the first try.

Interesting. Im not having input delay on ps5. I wonder if your having a tech issue

Nope, it’s mostly a skill issue and I accept that. I’m worse at these than I was in the 1980s. But the PS5 input lag is discussed in a recent digital foundry video. I thought I was imagining it until they covered it.

And again, not complaining. I got through it after a couple of tries and most of my trouble was from poor performance under the pressure of a timer. Some people are less impacted by a ticking clock than I am.

I am by no means bragging or trying to flex but I got him on my first try (I am a very average gamer). They make the gimmick and all the hiding spots super obvious , and the timed run back I fell into traps like 6-7 times and still won. Truly don’t know how anyone could struggle , I just used whip and holy cross

I used the whip too. I keep coming back to it. The whip is great. I have stronger other types of weapons but I just have been sticking to the thorn whip.

Could just be a simple case of perspective. I'm going to theorize something wild that i never see brought up in these conversations: what if the issue isn't about difficulty or skill, and it's all about enjoyment.

I've been figuring this out the past few months while playing the new Onimusha and Control Resonant. Each game i ran into a segment that skill-checked me hard. I got rinsed in those sections as many times as, if not more than, when i fought The Fallen in the demo. That experience in the demo convinced me i wasn't going to be into Belmont's Curse, but the same type of setbacks aren't keeping me from playing (and finishing) Onimusha or Control. I finished The Fallen fight, and i was done. I have even more difficulty in the other two games, and i keep pressing forward. For whatever reason, the gameplay loops in the other two connect with me and keep me engaged, but BC just didn't for whatever reason. Maybe that's the real difference: some people enjoy that experience, some don't, and that should be enough.

Yeah. There is no problem with that at all.

it's the only boss so far that i beat first try

Well done. I had him at one hit and got greedy and died. Second try i obliterated him

I think the mere presence of the timer stresses people out and they end up panicking, but yeah. It’s not that bad, and you’re given so much time to go through that platforming area, which isn’t nearly as demanding as other platforming areas in the game, and it’s not as if you have to deal with an entirely new phase once you reach the boss while the timer is still counting down. You just get a few hits in and the fight’s over. Some people might be going into the fight under-leveled if they’re getting a time out. 🤷‍♂️

This is well put. The timer throws people off and they make silly mistakes during the platforming. They totally did it on purpose too cause they gave us so much time to make it through if you just calm down and take your time, but the timer looks short so people freak out. I love this game.

The average gamer is bad is the reality. It's just the facts as the average gamer doesn't wanna improve and when faced with an obstacle they can't overpower they struggle

I’m like that. I’ll keep trying and finding new angles to overcome problems, but to become truly good, I’d have to invest time into playing platformers extensively for training, and I have other hobbies I want to do.

A lot of people is use to cheat combat with tons of rpg elements.

They can't cheat platforming! Muaaahahahahaha!

And you're so right.

People are just shit at platforming - I really liked a boss having a mini time trial

I'm curious what the impact of doing Carmilla first is on people's view since I did her first and the air dash made the timed part easy.

That said once I was in the final part of the fight I was out of potions and really didn't want to do it again because running all that multiple times felt lame so I probably would have been far more annoyed if I had died.

Boss wasn't hard but the run back under timer was stressful so for me it took couple tries plus I've watched yt video just to see if I did something wrong, managed to finish that fight on next try

I think most people who are complaining are used to IGA games which don’t have mechanics that are used in Belmont’s Curse.

1

u/issacbellmont 17h ago

I think thats the complaint from most people who dont like the game for whatever reason

The timer section. Having to repeat all of it over to get back there. I never want to have to do that again. Give me any other boss fight in it and managed fine.

2

u/GehennaFrost 17h ago

If you have to do the runback without the dash, its a pain in the ass. Otherwise there is nothing difficult about the encounter.

took me 3 tries. not that bad.

One person made an untagged meme post about Talos being the hardest boss in the game.

Nobody actually thought that and there was no discussion about it prior to

Talos itself isnt hard. Its having to do platforming in the middle of the boss fight that ticks people off. And messes up the fight.

Of all the gimmicks they couldve added.

Btw i meant when switching arenas.

I think the timed section is interesting cause we haven't had that in a castlevania before. Thete were a couple of traps during the stage transfer sequence where you basically couldn't see the giant fist till it crushed you lol
