There is more to come, I've ordered the new polyphia album on tape and I am still looking for a tape with "as tears go by" cause my Grandma loved that song so much. She gave me the Fuji and Sony tapes to record my own stuff and now I even get to have a deck soon.

In terms of players, it was an impulse buy, even tho it isn't very practical but not gonna toss it or buy two of the same when it works. Maybe if I find a really good offer I'll get a more compact one that fits my dresses or suits a bit

Mixtape 90's Hip Hop mixtape I just released on cassette 💎

Trying to help keep the mixtape culture alive by making sure I release my mixtapes on cassette only. Here is the promo video/snippet. Peep the description below ❤️

Instagram @antman_1992_aka_djdustyplatter

"DJ Dusty Platter returns with Volume 2 of his mixtape series, Another Joint. This volume takes on a different concept to the first volume but delivers the same result - another sure-shot mixtape packed full of  some of the dopest 90’s Hip Hop that you can hear!

Side A is dedicated to artists who released an album in the 90’s. However, rather than reaching for the obvious album tracks, DJ Dusty Platter has dug deep in his crates and pulled out tracks which are strictly non-album cuts. We’re talking joints that were released exclusively as 12-inches; B-side gems; tracks that were left off albums due to sample-clearance issues; original versions where the beat was later changed for the album; as well as a few cuts recorded specifically for soundtracks and compilations.

Side B focuses on artists who never released an album in the 90’s. Some of these artists dropped heavy-weight 12-inches or EPs, but, for various reasons, never got the chance to release a full-length of their own during those years. Others made their mark on sought-after and rare compilations, only to disappear before releasing anything else. Many of these artists were underground and fully independent, which often meant they were without the backing or resources needed to put out a full album.

Recorded all from vinyl, this mixtape is another heavy dose for the Hip Hop heads. Press play, turn it up, and be sure to keep it dusty."

Looking for advice Is this Sony Walkman good?

Post image

I have been wanting to buy a Walkman and found this one on Vinted for €40. The seller says they changed the belt (?)(I don't know if you say it like this in English) Is this a reasonable prise? And is this Walkman a good one to have as a first?

Looking for advice New to cassettes and want to buy a portable player

I've been doing some looking for a portable cassette player on eBay and have gotten down to two options for me. I'm putting myself on a $50 budget for now, as I'm a beginner and not a super all out audiophile. My two choices are a Panasonic RQ-V161A or a Sony WM-FX321.

The main thing separating the two for me is the price. The Panasonic is nearly half the price of the Sony and has cool EQ sliders on the front. They're relatively similar in terms of advertised features (aside from the EQ sliders) but I have heard Sony is superior in sound quality.

So which should I go with: the Sony or the Panasonic?

Edit: I already own a cassette deck and understand the very basics of using cassettes and a cassette deck. I'm just not too savvy with repairs or anything like that yet. Also the Panasonic is $25 and the Sony is $43

Now listening Swing Day with my KLIM Player

Last year I bought the KLIM K7 cassette player. This device shows that there actually is a modern version of the Walkman devices from the past. It's simple but stable and gives a good sound with a modest bass. The drive runs very stable without any jitter, wow or flutter. For me it's the best modern "Walkman style" cassette player available for an acceptable price. It provides also music->MP3 conversion which I don't use.

Today I listened to songs from Fred Astair. I like Swing music but would not have bought this tape intentionally. Lots of MC's became very expensive because the seller tells you they are "cult" and thus you have to pay threefold the price. So I came to the strategy to look for MCs at Ebay with the price filter set to around 8€ and see what comes up. The Fred Astair tape was part of a cheap convolut I bought for 5€ and it turned out to be a gem. The sound is really good, almost crisp and it's a nice and easy swing music I like to hear to relax and immerse myself in good vibes!

Looking for advice I am quite stressed out. I'm not sure what I did wrong, but my cassette player has a loose brass fly wheel, but it's fine, but ever since I tried to change out the belt to stop the wobbling audio, I didn't seem to find the right match from my belt pack... An update from my WM-f1

Because I don't know if my belt pack is cutting it and the expensive match for my Walkman is so highly priced on eBay and I can't find it anywhere else.

Collection Restarting my cassette collection with some 80s new wave, synthpop, and other gems

Born in ‘91, so I grew up with cassettes, but it’s been a long time since I’ve listened to them. Recently picked up a Walkman and decided to start collecting again. Stopped by a local record shop and came home with these. Been really getting into 80s new wave and synthpop lately, and I’m having a blast discovering music I missed the first time around. Pretty happy with these finds!

Looking for advice Marantz PMD420 record speed adjustment help

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi all - I have a Marantz PMD420 tape deck and I’m looking for help on how to adjust specifically the record speed. Please continue reading!

I replaced the belts on this and gave it a good cleaning/lubing. I put a 3000 Hz test tape in it and discovered it played quite fast (~3200 Hz).

At this point I didn’t try recording on it, but just went ahead and adjusted the RM05 trim pot so that playback was in the 3000 Hz range.

After this, I decided to try recording on it and discovered that it records at roughly ~3200 Hz (similar to the original playback speed prior to adjustment).

I know this has the pitch knob on top control panel but that only applies to playback, not record. I cannot figure out how to fix the record speed (to which I can subsequently match the playback speed).

I have seen this post for the PMD430, which I thought would apply to the PMD420, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what the WM03 connector is. I do have a copy of the service manual for both models but cannot determine the right approach for record speed adjustment. I tried using LLMs for this and of course they keep writing fiction for me.

Does anyone have experience with this and could lend a helping hand? Thanks!

Gear Dangerous Method?

Yesterday I decided to clean a cassette that I got for $2. The audio kept fading away and/or it would go to one side of the headphones. I had nothing to lose. What i did was open up the case (and had to replace it with a new one actually) cleaned the sides of the tape but i thought i probably had not gotten any mold if it was stuck on the actual tape itself, not the sides. So i put 2 cotton swabs taped together lightly on the hole to the left of the felt pad (i didnt know what they were for and it probably is definitely not for this) and on the right side i dipped a cotton swab in isopropyl alcohol and bent it in half so i could gently press and clean while winding the tape. can i harm a tape like this?

Looking for advice 3.5 mm jack replacement - we are rewind

Hello everyone, I recently picked up an Elvis-edition We Are Rewind player at a good price because the headphone jack doesn't work. I thought it might have just unsoldered, but the component is actually completely broken. On one piece of the jack, I can see the marking "13 JLS S" but I haven't been able to find any information about this part. Does anyone know if it’s possible to find replacements on AliExpress or any other third-party site? Thanks in advance!

Looking for advice Walkman WM-4 door not closing.

Hello friends! I got a Sony Walkman WM-4 to restore recently. The door doesn't like staying shut and is very loose. Browsing on here it seems that it could be a door spring issue. Could any of you guys give me a visual reference for what I'm looking for please? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Mixtape Retekess TR606

Hi everyone!! I'm new to this whole analog thing, especially cassette tapes. I bought a Retekess and I wanted to know if I'm doing something wrong; the manual is ridiculously vague. So I put in a blank tape I bought, but -_- maybe I'm dumb because I don't know how to use a tape or I'm doing something wrong, I tried recording from my PC but I only heard static, my cable is a 3.5mm jack.

So... Please help me, I just want to record little songs on my tape, is there a specific type of tape?
