Suggestions for tall rubber/neoprene boots in shoulder season?
I've decided to try to get a 'dry feet' setup for my early/late season canoeing. I don't have a canoe that i can run up on shore at each portage, i have to step in the water each and every time. And, during longer paddles between portages on cold spring/fall trips, i don't think i can keep my feet warm if they are wet in a non-waterproof type of footwear. So there are dozens and dozens of brands and models of tall rubber/neoprene boots that might suffice, but canoeing isn't a target market for these boots. Therefore, it's simply impossible to tell:
a) how is the traction on wet rocks?
b) how is the support for portaging?
before i place an online order. any recommendations from what others have used in this category are appreciated!

McCormick Wilderness
I spent 4 nights in the McCormick Wilderness in the U.P., and didn't see a single person apart from a few hikers on the trail in and out. It was just what I needed.

Wind vs Temp when choosing to get on the water
I had planned my last fall canoe camp trip for earlier this week but had to miss out. November is approaching fast and that means even lower temps and higher, colder winds but I would really like to do one last overnight without needing to buy a wet suit, if I can.
Specific to southern Ontario, there's some "warm" (14°C) days forecasted but then the wind could be 5 knots. And then there's some 8-9°C sunny days with 3 knots.
They sound equally non-ideal but which would you choose: higher temp or lower wind? Or just stay home because it's not worth it?

Upstate NY --> VT --> NH --> ME: Paddling / Campground recommendations?
Hello everyone
I'm laying out a route to visit Mt. Washington and Acadia from Upstate NY. I'll be driving and bringing my canoe and camp stuff. I'm floundering a bit in terms of finding some areas in-between the start and stop to spend time, camp, or paddle. On this particular outing I am thinking it might be easier to car camp and day paddle, but open to suggestions. Note: I've never paddled in NH or ME!
I was hoping to camp a few days to save money versus an AirBnB. Also, I was hoping to paddle because I love to. I'll have a dry suit because temps have been dropping significantly lately.
Any suggestions? Thank you!

Requesting design input for a canoe tripping weather canopy
Hey r/canoecamping! My name is Jordan, I’m a senior at U of O in the Product Design program, and this fall for my studio class, I’m working on an all-season weather canopy aimed specifically for canoe tripping.
I grew up canoe tripping out of summer camp in Bemidji, Minnesota, and some of my best memories are paddling and camping in Voyageurs National Park.
I’m posting a short survey I’ve been developing with professor feedback, and I’m hoping to get some objective design feedback and insights into potential user needs for a canoe canopy.
All responses are hugely appreciated, thank y’all in advance!

Looking For 1-2 Adventurous People!
Looking for 1-2 more people in their 20s/30s/40s to add another canoe to our 4 day/3night trip on the Rio Grande River in Big Bend National Park, Texas.
It’s a non-guided trip, so we get dropped off and haul everything we need with us until we get picked up. A lot of people in our group know each other, but many people don’t. It’s a few people’s first time doing a trip like this also, so newcomers are welcome too.
*SERIOUS ENQUIRES ONLY PLEASE!*
Days on the water : April 2nd-5th
-Put in @ 8am Friday 4/2/27
-Take out @ 10am Monday 4/5/27
$300 per person
If a trip like this is something you’re interested please message me!!!

Shoulder season is here, what precautions or gear do you take in the colder weather?
For those who paddle when the weather is under 50F/10C, what extra steps do you take?

Anyone done overnight kayak camping on Cedar Creek in Congaree National Park?
My friend and I are planning a one-night paddle-in camping trip November 7–8. We’ve kayaked before, including guided sea kayaking in Alaska, but this will be our first independent kayak camping trip.
We’re planning to launch at South Cedar Creek Landing, paddle upstream toward Wise Lake, camp overnight, and return to the same launch the next day (only one car).
A few questions for anyone who’s done this:
Is it realistic to find a dry, legal campsite along the south bank?
Would you recommend hammocks or tents?
Are there any particular stretches with good camping terrain?
How difficult are the logjams and portages?
Would you recommend a different out-and-back route for better scenery or camping?
Would love any firsthand advice, especially from anyone who’s paddled Cedar Creek in the fall!

5 Days Alone in the Heart of Temagami
I just posted this video of my 5-day trip from Twinkle Lake Access in Temagami, up the Yorston to Florence Lake, down Ames Creek to Pinetorch, then back to Twinkle. The Dead Beaver Falls Portage was a disaster after the microbursts at the end June.
