I've seen this newish white building near the airport. Visible when coming from Queanbeyan. It is on the old dragstrip. Nothing on Google Maps. Does anyone know what it is?
Edit - older query but no answer

I'm curious to know the average understanding about flagged 'Children Crossing' areas, usually in front of our schools.
Did you know when the flags are up, it's a pedestrian crossing for all pedestrians? Not just if children are present.
Background: I walk to work a few times per week and use one of these crossings. When I'm by myself the majority of drivers seem to not know. If my child is next to me compliance is effectively 100%.

Main article text copy/paste…
In order to safely carry out critical works for the construction of Light Rail Stage 2A, there will be no light rail services from the first service on Saturday 31 October to the last service on Sunday 1 November 2026.
On this weekend, rail replacement buses operated by CDC Canberra will be operating in both directions along the entire light rail corridor between Alinga Street and Gungahlin Place. CDC buses are not equipped with MyWay+ technology, so there will be no requirement to tap on or off.
There will be no impacts to the regular Transport Canberra bus network or the platform layout in the City Interchange for the duration of the works. Buses will still be able to cross Northbourne Avenue at Alinga Street and service their regular platforms.
The pedestrian crossings south of Alinga Street light rail stop will be temporarily closed from 8 pm Friday 30 October until 6 am Monday 2 November. Pedestrians, including users of the City bus Interchange, will be directed to cross at the Rudd/Bunda Street intersection to the north, or London Circuit to the south.
Please allow extra time for travel during this period.
More information regarding the construction works can be found on the Built for CBR website.

Hi, my partner and I are looking to relocate to ACT from rural VIC. I was wanting some brutally honest opinions about being an RN in Canberra and the hospitals and their environments.
I am just about to finish my New Grad year and primarily worked in ICU/CCU and would love to work in crit care.
I’m unsure whether I want to do a TSP prior of after moving to ACT.
Anything good or bad would be amazing!!!
Please help a girl out 🫶🏼

I've found myself a seat, but hey, I'm not even sure why any of us should be asking anyone to move their bags when it should form as part of common courtesy. More often than not, I ask people to move their jacket or whatever (kindly!), and I'm met with that inconvenienced look.
...or am I an old man shouting at clouds here?

Is it hard to find a room? Don't need parking, but it does need to be central or near a light rail stop

A bit of a long shot, but back in the year 2011 I was at the short-lived cafe experiment called the Red Herring and saw a young man sketching at another table (or bed or couch or whatever other random furniture which was the quirky decor). I complimented his artwork, and then shortly afterwards he came by my table, dropped these off (the top one is an extremely flattering portrait of me) and rushed out of the venue.
The text at the bottom of the shark says "that guy from herring" and the skull was on the other side. Unfortunately, this is all I have to go on.
Does anyone recognise the style? I'd love to see what the artist is up to now and thank him for the portrait!!

Explosion noise heard in Weston Creek at 3am this morning and followed by a thud noise in the ground. Any intel on what it was? No sirens heard afterwards though.

2 weeks ago I posted on this subreddit about my cat that went missing, and the comments left on the post really helped me keep my hopes up about eventually finding her.
Good news! On Tuesday (20/10) a lady contacted me on FB about a ginger cat that has been living in her back garden for three days and lo and behold, it was my girl.
I have since gotten in touch with everyone who has played a part in finding her to express my gratitude, as best I can; neighbours, FB groups, local businesses (special mention to the peeps at Kiitos who were genuinely upset whenever I came in to tell them I’ve not found my cat, and genuinely overjoyed when I came in with good news) and strangers who have texted with leads.
But I somehow forgot to thank those in this subreddit who were extremely kind during such a distressing time. One good thing about my cat going missing is discovering and being the recipient of Canberrans’ kindness. I moved here three months ago for the peace and quiet, and i’m glad to discover that such an incredible community within it as well.
Thank you so much, Canberrans 🩷 Please enjoy the cat tax - my ginger girl has loved being back home and napping on the couch again.

Hey guys,
I recently got my acceptance to study at UC next year and I wanted to know if it’s better to move to Canberra for the duration of the course or live in Canberra for sem 1 and 2 and spend the winter semester back home( I live on the central coast).
I don’t know how that would work but I don’t know anything because I’m not able to enrol for classes until December. I would appreciate any advice on how the course works and living situations.
Thank you!
Also if you could please share what a typical timetable looks like, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks:)

Hi all, I'm looking to get a custom birthday cake made for end of Nov (reference pic below). The last thread I saw on here similar to this was from 2 years ago, and unfortunately a lot of them are closed or aren't taking custom orders anymore. Any recommendations on local bakeries that could do something similar to this? TIA!

The Inner-North Community Pantries are putting on a fundraiser Halloween Party this Saturday the 31st of October in Finn Street Park, O’Connor.
There will be a bbq, bake sale, mystery book stall. All money raised will be used to help keep community pantries stocked with food and personal care items between the many generous donations.
It’s not just about fundraising though, there’s a free scavenger hunt, games, arts and crafts + more for kids young and old.
Come for the party or drop by between trick or treating, all are welcome.

What is happening in Turner opposite Haig Park? It looks like some energy workers. The sign says evo energy. Are they building something?
