https://meridiansource.ca/2026/10/27/firearms-amnesty-extended-past-oct-30-deadline/
Ottawa has pushed the firearms amnesty deadline past its Oct. 30 expiry, now tying it to a Supreme Court of Canada ruling not expected before mid-2027.
The federal firearms amnesty that was set to expire Oct. 30 has been extended again, giving gun owners across Alberta and Saskatchewan more time to comply with prohibitions before facing criminal liability.
The Government of Canada confirmed the amnesty period now runs 90 days beyond the date the Supreme Court of Canada delivers its decision on appeals challenging the legality of the May 2020 firearms prohibition, according to a release from the Government of Saskatchewan. That decision is not expected before mid-2027.
What the extension covers
The extended amnesty applies to all orders tied to firearms prohibitions introduced in May 2020, December 2024 and March 2025, the province said.
Affected owners and businesses will remain protected from criminal liability for the duration of the extended amnesty period, provided they continue to meet the amnesty’s conditions, according to the provincial notice.
The May 2020 order originally prohibited roughly 1,500 models and variants of firearms classified as “assault-style,” with further restrictions added in the December 2024 and March 2025 rounds. The Supreme Court of Canada granted leave on March 19, 2026, to hear appeals challenging that original prohibition, which triggered the latest extension.
Saskatchewan resources for local gun owners
The Saskatchewan Firearms Office is continuing to run its Firearms Verification and Appraisal Service for residents trying to sort out how the federal rules apply to them. The program followed earlier moves outlined when Saskatchewan amended its firearms law in response to the federal buyback, part of a broader push the province has made in defending gun owners against the federal prohibitions.
The service offers three main options for Saskatchewan residents: firearm verification to determine whether a specific gun is affected by the bans, certificates of exemption allowing eligible owners to keep possessing and storing certain prohibited firearms once the amnesty eventually ends, and appraisals that establish fair market value for owners pursuing federal compensation.
More than 22,000 firearms were reported in the first week of the federal compensation program when it launched, according to earlier figures reported by the federal government.
What Alberta gun owners should know
The amnesty extension is federal and applies to firearm owners on both sides of the Border City, but the Saskatchewan Firearms Office verification and appraisal service is limited to Saskatchewan residents. Alberta gun owners are directed to federal sources, including the RCMP Canadian Firearms Program, for guidance on how the extended amnesty and compensation program apply to them.
Saskatchewan residents can reach the Firearms Office at 1-833-792-2706 or visit www.saskatchewan.ca/firearms-verification for more information on verification, exemption and appraisal services.
The province said it is encouraging owners to use the verification service directly rather than relying on assumptions about how the prohibitions apply to their own firearms.

Went for a nice walk in the hills and took the 92 out incase of a Grizzlies. Literally the most beautiful rifle I've ever held. Love the 16inch barrel on it, thing is weightless I dont even need a sling.
Im finding it hard to find any hardcast for 44mag prophet river had some but they are too long to cycle in the 92 and cant find anything else other then soft points. Anybody know where to look?

This started as a Merkel sxs I picked up, only to discover there was a dent that protruded all the way into the bore of the left barrel. As fate would have it, the dent was at 19-3/4”, and the cutoff legal limit is 18”, so out came the hacksaw and away went the dented barrel ends. Then, decided since I already have numerous coach guns/ pistol gripped double barrels, I would try and have fun with this one. Picked up a couple Chiappa semi-permanent 8” rifle sleeves for 357/38, drilled and tapped it at home with a hand drill and a level on the back, threw a gsg optic on there for the shits and gigs and voila!
Actually turned out to be a lot of fun, and reasonably accurate for 25 yards. Accurate enough that I’m going to pick up a new proper dedicated optic for it. I’ll also be doing a custom stain job on the wood, so stay tuned for its final monstrous transformation into the aptly named double-abomination-barrel. Cheers!

Pawn shop find..
I picked this up at a pawn shop for 50% off..so 50 bones out the door.
It seems robustly built, no markings..turrets are in english/ moa.
Is it a repro...high quality repro?
Its well used, which makes me wonder that isnt a tactical imports from the Type 81 days...
Its too abused, i've never known anyone to actually "use & abuse" thier Type 81.
Im thinking a 90's/2000's repro or import..
I forgot to take a picture of the batteries, they are a small "L4" cell battery x4.
They are sitting in a teflon washer/ ring.
Which kinda makes me think its european and meant for a different design of battery.
either way 50 shillings, the reitcle still illuminates and it seems "true"

I was messing around with my 10/22 takedown and I ruined the front sight shown circled. It is basically part of the barrel so I'm looking for a new barrel. Does anyone know where I can source one. I've looked around on the interwebs with no luck.

Howdy Folks
The Texan is back with yet another Gun Appreciation Post, where today, let’s take a look at another Lever Gun.
The Classic Winchester Model 1866
The old ones, you unfortunately cannot get the .44 Henry Rimfire Ammunition anymore since that has been out of circulation since the 1930s. However, the reproductions of the rifle are thankfully chambered in cartridges you can find, such as .44-40 WCF and .45 LC.
The post does the talking, so enjoy!

Hey everyone,
This might be a dumb question but looking for some advice on getting my slide milled for an optic. This is my IMI Jericho 941f (picture edited with AI original image in comments) and am hoping to send it out to black box in Alberta to have the slide milled for an optic. I would like to have the option to use various different optics on this gun until I find something I like. I have heard about optic plates that give you more options for sights, is there any that are recommended to have a wide spread of options? Can anyone provide more information about milling and mounting red dots on handguns? My understanding is they could mill the slide for a specific optic or alternatively I could have them mill it for a plate that would allow me to use various red dots, is that correct? Any information or plate recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Hey guys, just picked up a Mossberg 500 Field/Deer specifically for a slug gun with the rifled barrel. While I was at the store I looked at the Winchester SXP Extreme Deer with the pistol grip. The Mossberg was on sale for $650 from $750 and (I did not know this until after already purchasing the Mossberg) that the SXP was on sale for $680 from $815. The 500 comes with a field barrel but I will not be switching barrels out as I have other guns for water fowl and turkey. Just looking for some input. Did I make the right choice? Should I return the Mossberg for the SXP?Bought on a whim with little research. Thanks for your help!

what if I’m hunting for a deer and another animal comes charging at me, I shoot it but I only have a deer tag
I know the actual legal answer is to call the natural resources whatever and report it but Uh, is that what actually happens? I’m supposed to let a bear just sit there and rot while some nature person comes to investigate? or like do I just cut up the meat before it goes bad… I want to know what the realistic answer is
