I DID IT. I FINALLY LEFT !!!
Today is Monday. On Thursday last week, I quit my job in sales at a call centre.
Two days prior, on Tuesday, I had a probation review meeting. I was shown my performance stats, and my aux activity. My performance stats were fine, but my aux activity… not so much. I was shown that I would often go on after-call work just as my shift started or would stay in after-call work for 25 or 30 minutes quite often. This is because I have issues with my digestive tract and bladder as well. And honestly, I’d also speak to floor walkers or coaches after a call if I needed further information on the situation that happened just to have a better understanding in case I get a similar call again. When I explained this to my manager, he said I will need to go to my GP and provide documentation proving the medical matters I mentioned, because my aux activity is “excessive” and so they need proof and to see if there is a way for them to support me. My probation was extended by two months, only because I have medical issues. What I didn’t mention to my manager though, is how badly I need some time to myself to recover after nasty calls, which happen very frequently, which is also why I’d stay in after-call work for so long. But it’s fine, I thanked my manager and I went home.
Then I realised I don’t want to stay for another day, let alone five whole months in this shit job. The targets are not realistic. The customers are nasty. The coaches are nasty. The operations manager especially, is the worst; constantly intimidating everyone because he is on a power trip. We all constantly feel like we are watched, blamed and criticised at all times. We were all made to feel small and less-than.
And so, on Thursday morning, I sent in my resignation email, and I immediately felt a huge weight being lifted off my chest. I do miss my colleagues though. I now have an interview tomorrow morning for a much easier, more laid-back sales position, which will involve face-to-face. This job taught me a lot about sales and how much I actually enjoy it, but it also taught me that I won’t tolerate bullshit just because of money. There is always something better waiting, even if it takes a while to find.
Fingers crossed for a better chapter. :)
