Trivia/misc West pier tonight
First time photographing the west pier since the incident

After the announcement of surge pricing in Laine pubs and finding out who actually owns them and just how many of our establishments they own I thought it'd be a nice idea to have a list of pubs in Brighton that are independent. Ones that are free of the B.S. of several layers of 'financial arrrangements' obscuring where our beer tokens are going. Maybe one day we can have a little map in our pockets to refer to when our guard may be down because it's cold and windy outside or we have had a few, we can take a quick look and find an establishment near by that we want to support to prevent them turning into another chain pub without anyone really noticing.

I am all for making sure our shorter friends can get a better view, but this seems a bit restrictive.

Our family use the lock access to Southwick beach probably 4-6 times a week, all year round to walk our 2 dogs.
Could the cyclists who think that the massive signs asking them to dismount whilst crossing the locks do not apply to them, please realise that they are actually specifically for you.
And please, when politely challenged to do so by a man with 2 dogs and an 11 year old daughter, don't get arsey and swear at me in front of said 11 year old daughter asking if I think i'm the "fucking police or something"
Also to the chap (it's pretty much always chaps, btw) who retorted that "no-one's down here mate!" - What exactly do you think we were doing crossing the lock as you barely even slowed down for us as you barged past yesterday evening?
I would also like to add that there are also a large majority of perfectly civil cyclists who absolutely respect the signs and do realise that it is a busy crossing for all manner of pedestrians.
The minority has just got a bit more noticeable recently and also now that it is dark at exactly cycling and walking home time, it's all the more necessary to do so.
Thank you.

If you're in Brighton and thinking about learning to code, changing career, or just want some help building something, I wanted to share codebar Brighton.
codebar is a community that runs free, friendly coding workshops for women, LGBTQIA+ and people from minority and underrepresented communities in tech.
You don't need to be an experienced developer and complete beginners are welcome. The idea is to provide a friendly, supportive space where you can learn at your own pace with help from volunteer developers.
We meet in the evening, have some pizza and a chat, then spend time working through whatever you're learning or building. That could be HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Python, WordPress, or pretty much anything else you're interested in.
It's also a nice way to meet other people locally who are learning, working in tech, or thinking about making a career change.
I'm one of the organisers of codebar Brighton, so if you've been looking for something like this locally, come along and say hello.
You can find out more about codebar Brighton and register for upcoming workshops here:
If you've been thinking about getting into tech but weren't sure where to start, feel free to ask any questions here too.

I left an honest Google review about a bad experience at The Barber Club and it's now been removed twice. It wasn't abusive or fake, just my genuine experience.
Has anyone else had reviews of this place, or any local business, taken down? And does anyone know how to appeal it with Google?
It just seems disingenuous to only keep positive reviews up.

My son is almost 17 and at college. He's struggling to find his people. His timetable is spread out with lots of independent study, so he's not around others much.
He's into music (plays three instruments), photography, politics, the environment and good conversation. He's friendly and outgoing but hasn't found his crowd yet.
Does anyone know of free or cheap groups, clubs, volunteering, youth projects or regular meetups in Brighton & Hove for 16 to 18 year olds? Jam sessions, photo walks, youth politics, environmental groups, anything social really.
Would also love to hear from anyone who was in a similar spot at that age and found something that worked.
Thanks!

I know we have an unemployment crisis and that I’m not alone in this, but I desperately need a full time job so I can live in Brighton. I’m looking at mostly admin for the time being, I’ve tried everything (map view, indeed, adzuna, linkedin, simplyhired, recruitment agencies - they all ghosted me), company careers pages. I tried reaching out to university of brighton but as i’m not their graduate they didn’t offer me help. Is there another method or way of finding companies with vacancies? Is there a way to get through to them? In 4 months I’ve not even landed an interview, all the flats I like keep getting taken. It’s killing me.

I just watched a car scrape up against another parked car on furze hill road. The person in the car stopped, looked and then drove off. I took photos of the number plates just in case it could help, as nobody was inside the car that was hit. Not sure what to do now?

Apologies if this isn’t the place to be posting this, but I am wondering if anyone has or knows anyone that is reselling a mesmerist ticket for halloween.
Willing to pay a fair amount if anyone has one spare or is no longer attending.

Hi! I know this is a long shot but my partner went out last night and left his backpack somewhere. We’ve checked with the pubs he went to but no luck there.
there wasn’t any valuables in the bag but there was a pair of trousers that are handmade and very special to us! :(
If anyone sees it please let me know would super appreciate it.
Thanks

I walked along the beach earlier to try find some debris from the recent West Pier collapse and came across this large plank really close to the old pier, and I’m wondering if it is part of the promenade.
I’ve been doing some research and apparently the square-head bolt holes are what you would expect, and the wood looks consistent with the Douglas Fir they used.
I don’t know anything about wood though, is anyone able to help identify if I am correct?

I'd love to make this nice and busy as I love halloween and have tried to make it a good bit on fun!
Please feel free to message me for any other details of if you'd like to book a space for it!

Maybe a bit of a strange one but tomorrow is my little boy’s 7th Birthday but his mother has alienated me from him as she wants a new family. Will not even let me leave a present on the doorstep.
I am worried about sitting indoors all day tomorrow with my own hurt, I don’t have a TV or Playsation for that matter, or money to distract me.
Was wondering if anyone knew of any community places, board games, ping pong, that sort of thing?
Don’t want to play the pity card as I love him so much and as bad as it may seem, I need a distraction for the day.
Also if any knows of any volunteers needed over Christmas, I’m a 20 years experienced chef and would be happy to help those in need.
Thanks,
Matt

Hellooo people for context : I had a Halloween costume planned to go as Patrick Bateman (cause it was the only one I already had everything for) but I don’t have the clear raincoat cause I was planning on getting it online but I forgot I had an event today and the earliest I could get it delivered is tomorrow. If anyone has one they’d be willing to lend before 10pm today I’d be glad to pick it up and return it whenever you’d like
