Politics 🏛️ Massachusetts flag redesign should feature the revolutionary Sacred Cod.
I personally think it would be a much better option than the current flag or the proposed evergreen one

Serious Replies Only To the Girl outside Planned Parenthood (Comm ave) today
I know this is a long shot, but you and I talked outside the planned parenthood today. I was protesting the protesters (because I had nothing to do tonight, saw them outside and thought FUCK those people for making anyone feel bad about their own health care choices), we started talking bc you thought I was with them and then we continued taking when you realized I was against them and supported PP. I wish I had given you my number in case you ever needed to. I was glad to be there for you in the moment but if you happen to be on this sub and see this, please reach out. I’ll send you a picture of my janky signs to verify it was me.
EDIT: I guess I have to clarify that I am a woman who is trying to support another woman as a friend.

Politics 🏛️ Massachusetts’s richest residents and corporations are laundering funds through the dark money group "Massachusetts Opportunity Alliance" to fund the ballot committee for Question 5.
Question 5 is a doozy. I doubt there are many people in the state that could read question 5 as is, and have a perfect grasp of its full implications. I’ve been hit in the head a lot so I need to dig into the simple ones too. After researching who is behind question 5, it’s painfully obvious to see what their intent is.
Massachusetts’s richest residents and corporations are laundering funds through the dark money group Massachusetts Opportunity Alliance to fund the ballot committee for Question 5. This group was set up after the passage of the Fair Share Amendment. While no one can prove who is in this dark money group (I would wager good money that Robert Kraft is one of them), it’s clear they want to undo the work of the Fair Share Amendment.
Question 5 imposes a stricter revenue cap on the state, meaning that it will be harder for the state to invest and harder for the state to respond to economic downturns. With a stricter revenue cap, working families would pay the price through reduced public services and fewer investments in their communities. Child care could get more expensive, health care less accessible, and higher education out of reach for more Bay Staters. With steep federal cuts looming next year to health care and more, the cuts Question 5 could trigger will be dire.
I am a strong No on question 5. Happy to discuss this in depth with all takers.

Unconfirmed/Unverified BPD issued parking ticket not showing up online? (172 W Newton St / Choir Parking)
Hey r/boston,
I got a blue parking ticket from a Boston Police officer on Tuesday at 6:45 PM near Union Church (172 W Newton St). The officer wrote "Choir Parking" in the comments for a $90 "No Parking" violation, even though the posted sign says Visitor Parking 8am–6pm.
I went to look up the ticket on the Boston Parking Clerk site to dispute it, but it’s not showing up in the system at all.
Is this standard for tickets issued by BPD officers (do they take a few days/weeks to get entered manually), or could it be fake? Anyone experienced this before?
Directly from the City website:
"There is no parking limit before or after the times posted on the sign."
VISITOR PARKING
All areas with “Resident Parking Only” restrictions also have visitor parking spaces. There are two types of visitor parking:
- Two Hour Limit: You can only park for two hours during specific hours. There is no parking limit before or after the times posted on the sign. Restrictions apply to both visitor cars and vehicles displaying resident permits.
- Two Hour Limit Except Resident Sticker: You can only park for two hours during specific hours. There is no parking limit before or after the times posted on the sign. This restriction does not apply to if you have a valid Resident Parking Permit.
I also wasn't parked there for more than 2 hours regardless so either way the ticket should NOT have been issued.

Unconfirmed/Unverified Any Guesses What’s Filming Here?
I went to go for a walk at Richard McKinnon Park while I wait for the Museum of Science to open, and saw this. Any guesses or knowledge on what’s filming here?

Event 📅 Boston has a free, 100-challenge scavenger hunt running until November 13. My best friend and I finished it in two days because we're ridiculously competitive.
I'm genuinely surprised more people aren't talking about this, because it's easily one of the coolest things I've experienced in Boston.
The challenges take you through Boston's neighborhoods, uncovering hidden murals, historical markers, local businesses, community landmarks, and some genuinely fascinating stories about the city.
You solve clues, visit locations, take photos, complete challenges, and earn points. You can participate at your own pace, and there are prizes involved, including a $10,000 grant to a Boston nonprofit nominated by the winning team.
Now, here's where my best friend and I come in.
We saw $10,000 for a nonprofit and immediately decided we were going to try our absolute hardest to win it.
So naturally, instead of spreading the challenges across three weeks like reasonable people, we finished all 100 in approximately 17 hours across two days. Just the two of us. 😭
And somehow, another team managed to finish about an HOUR before us. Which is both hilarious and deeply impressive, considering the event runs until November 13.
We're currently sitting in second place, but the leaderboard is still subject to final point totals, so the competition is far from officially decided.
That said, now that we're done, I really want to give this event some love.
I've spent my entire life around Boston, and this hunt took us to places I never knew existed. We explored neighborhoods, learned stories about the people who shaped them, and saw parts of the city that deserve so much more attention.
It was genuinely such a creative way to celebrate Boston, and I love that you don't have to be competitive to enjoy it. You can spend an afternoon exploring a few locations or make a whole adventure out of it.
You absolutely do not need to do all 100 challenges. We just have a problem.
The whole experience also felt like living out an episode of FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman, which made my inner child ridiculously happy. Especially since they posted a revival and a plea for folks to get the show back literally two days before the scavenger hunt was launched.
Anyway, if you're looking for something different to do around Boston over the next couple of weeks, I seriously recommend checking it out.
And now that we've completed the entire thing, I'm happy to answer questions, share our favorite discoveries, or help anyone who's curious about participating.
Here's the hunt:
https://elevatecities.org/boston/findthegood/
Go explore your city. Just maybe don't try to speedrun the entire thing unless you're as aggressively competitive as we are. 😂

MBTA/Transit 🚇 🔥 Riders on MBTA Commuter Rail stranded by mechanical issues
The man interviewed:
left a Mass DOT conference where the last session was about improving rail reliability
got on a train that got stuck in the dark with no circulating air for hours due to slippery rail from leaves
walked on the tracks to Ruggles to wait for the next train due in 10 minutes
waited 90 minutes for that train with no updates about its status

MBTA/Transit 🚇 🔥 FYI Providence/Stoughton and Franklin/Forge commuter rails have been cancelled for hours
Got to ruggles and tons of angry people waiting on the platform for their Outbound trains home. From what I gathered, all trains were cancelled since at least the 5:46 train to providence.
Tons of pissed people, zero communication, it was a bad scene. Currently in the uber home that I bit the bullet on. No idea if any trains actually came.

Today’s Cry For Help 😿 🆘 Where to buy bamboo tree
Hi all,
Where can I buy a small decorative bamboo tree like the ones in the picture? I thought Chinatown may have plant stores that sell them but it doesn’t seem so. I also prefer to buy plants in store rather than ordering online. I rely on public transport so any stores accessible by the T/buses are preferred. Thanks all!
Today’s Cry For Help 😿 🆘 Looking for help retrofitting a CNC
Does anyone here just love doing wiring cabinets? I will pay you to help me finish this project.
CNC = Computer Numerical Control machine tool.

Event 📅 Timeleft (Boston) confirmed my singles dinner multiple times, then waitlisted me the morning of because “numbers not in your favor”
Timeleft sent me multiple confirmations and reminders saying my seat was saved and that I’d receive the location. Then, the morning of dinner, they put me 4th on a WAITLIST and told me to wait until 4 hours before dinner for an answer.
Why confirm my seat if you can’t accommodate me. It’s rude and inconsiderate of my time. Terrible user experience. Would not recommend.
I’m 41, Asian Female. If you don’t have the numbers, don’t lead me on and confirm my seat and send me multiple reminders to hype me up.
UPDATE! Weird turn of events. At 6PM, 1 hour before the dinner, I got an alert that I was "assigned to "Table 1." What? But I decided to show up anyways, and of course...found that:
- Table 1 was in fact, the only table (what waitlist??!)
- 1 man, 4 women
- the restaurant was so loud that we couldn't hear the person sitting next to us
- Group vibes were off, which is understandable since everyone was disappointed (myself included), but you gotta know when to snap out of it and pivot, or just call it quits. When it came time to order food, I just walked out. BEST DECISION EVER.
- Time Left has showed me that we should use our time left wisely. I'm moving.

I Made This! New Parking Enforcement Data Available on City of Boston’s Website
Hi, Boston! We posted a new parking enforcement dashboard on the City’s website where you can see the number of violations issued in Boston over the last year. Information on patterns of reported and past violations helps guide our enforcement efforts.
Enforcement is a critical part of how we keep our streets safe, accessible, and clean for everyone to use. It also helps keep traffic flowing, and keep bus and bike lanes clear and accessible for the tens of thousands of people using them every day.
Check out our dashboard and learn about our approach at boston.gov/departments/transportation/parking-enforcement

Dining/Food/Drink 🍽️🍹 Is there any good place to try Somali or east African food in/near Boston (or Providence or anywhere in between)?
Maybe this is dumb but I saw a video about Somali food and it looked so good and I want to try it, but I struggle to find a place that offers it when I look it up (or even East African food in general). I can find West African or Middle Eastern but nothing for east Africa! Are there any places that specialize in it in the area?

Lost and Found 🔎 Abandoned Mustang - Seaport
This mustang has been sitting in the same spot in stillings garage for years. While not as visible in the photos it has the classic abandoned car dust build up all over it, peoples finger writing on the windows (political references also give an idea of how long the dust has already been built up). The tag expired in 2020, so I am assuming it’s been there since around that time.
Anyone know the background story?

Moving 🚚 Cleaning service recommendations?
I've been looking to find cleaners to come to my apartment and I have looked online, but I always find it easier to ask the people I know for recommendations.
So, does anyone currently use a cleaning service they recommend? How much do you pay, and how often do they come?
