Is there anyone over here who works with them? Especially in NC, or SC/VA/TN that may travel to NC for shows? Planning to go to a couple expos this coming up month (Asheboro and Raleigh) to search for one but I wanna get an idea of what my strategy should be and if I should get my hopes up or just forget about it altogether if they're that rare over here.
I'm looking to get a female of a cheaper morph/locality possible if that helps anything, not looking for any fancy morphs at all I have absolutely 0 color preference. Open to adults or babies. I've fallen in love with their personalities and their cute little faces and their chunky bodies and they get just the right size for me, but I'm afraid I'll have a hard time finding one within budget (200) or even finding one at all :( I'm really trying to avoid shipping because of costs as well as my own nerves, so that's going to be an absolute last resort for me if everything else falls through. If anyone could point me towards vendors who I should look into or message about them, that would be great.
Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you for reading.

This guy is 1.5-2 years old at a rescue. He's on large mice. They think the people who surrendered him weren't feeding properly. Does he seem small for that age? If I adopt, I'd be hoping to put some growth on with rats.
Also, is that lovely bright red tail going to darken, or stay?

Brought Ember to an exotic vet in Orlando. He pressed on her belly and there was an audible crunch. So she wasnāt eating because she was full of gas, possible do to a clostridium species/ gut immobility probably happened while she was in transport. So sheās getting admitted for a month to get her abdomen pressed daily to toot , meds and tube feedings. Apparently has a pretty high mortality of 50% so crossing fingers sheāll be just fine.
also side note said to ditch the fogger and not even get a mister , said soaking in a tub 2 ish times a week for an hour works perfect and has been shown to have better outcomes longterm. sheās in a bioactive so the humidity will
be high enough anyway

My red-tail is on large rats right now but I've been reading about using quail as variety feeders or even as a staple. Nutritionally I don't know how they compare to rats and whether the size is actually appropriate for a large boa. Anyone use quail regularly for a big snake?

Hey yall. This is Pepper, my Brazilian rainbow boa. Ive had her for 2 months now. Shes 5 and a half months old and her breeder was giving her live. He said F/T should be fine since theyāre not picky. She has eaten every fuzzy I have given her, but first, sheāll spit it out and inspect it. For like 5 minutes shes pressing her nose tip against it all over. Then sheāll come inspect me looking at her, and then sheāll eat it. At first she would drag it into her hide, now she eats it out in the open after inspecting me. She always comes to inspect me after she inspects her mouse. Anyone know whats all this about?

theoretically if you got a bci baby from a breeder whos feeding live fuzzies how would you go about transitioning them to frozen thawed? the breeder feeds frozen to the rest of the babies available except for mine and one other

I've sent out a few inquires on MorphMarket and nothing has quite panned out (if you were one of the sellers, thank you for getting back to me).
Am I going to have trouble finding an animal that fits this criteria?
- Male BCI.
- At least a year old.
- Mid-sized (or mid-sized potential) ideally will cap out around 12-15lbs at full maturity; basically big enough to be impressive but not too large to handle.
- Gentle, sweet temperament.
- Getting picky here but I'd like a nice red tail. Not like Suriname red but red enough to show audiences that this is where their name comes from.
I saw a few at Hamburg but not many. A lot have the typical boa "nippy in the cage but settles when handled" temperament. I found a boa that hits all of these on MM but the seller didn't work out.
Other than MM and a big expo, are there any other places I'm missing? A shoutout on FB "rescue" groups yielded a handful of shitty people. A state rescue has one but he's a little bit larger than I'm comfortable with.
Thanks for advice / tips / leads. A breeder told me these kind of snakes don't come up often because breeders don't really "retire" animals, they either just keep them or breed them basically until they die.

Hello! A rescue I work with has a new intake, roughly a 10lb 5-7year old boa. We suspect imperator, no confirmed gender. If you tell me what sort of photos are helpful for identifying locality, I'd love to get more specific for future adopters (I myself am considering).
I will be fostering this snake and am also looking for name ideas, my first boa as well (I have ball pythons, kingsnakes and rat snakes)
I have been calling her my giant lady puppy snake - LOL.

Hi everyone! Iām getting my first snake soon. Sheās a Tarahumara boa that was born this spring. Iām having difficulty choosing the proper lighting. Iād like to get a heat lamp and UVB. I have a 40 gallon enclosure.
Can someone recommend specific bulbs and fixtures please (photos and links would also be greatly appreciated!!)?

My gfs boa has just moved into my place. I have never had a snake before so I am so excited. She likes to crawl up on the branches and "perch" for an hour or so. I am wondering if she maybe is "hunting" while doing that š¤š¤
We try to let her out and move about as much as possible since the terrarium is too small for her now and we are building a new one at the moment with 3-4 times the space, water features etc. But I also don't want her to get too dry from taking her out since the humidity in the apartment is about 14%. It is a balance I guess.
Any tips for a new snake mom is welcome š¤

I have a ball python and Mexican black kingsnake and have been looking into boas as my next snake. I realized that boa imperators are quite a bit larger than the space I have so I decided on a Columbian rainbow boa. For my 2 other snakes, I started them in smaller bio active enclosures before upgrading. Kingsnake was in a 20 gallon and is now in a 50, ball python was in a 50 gallon and is now in a 4x2x2. Iāve seen a lot of information about how baby rainbow boas are very fragile and that itās best to start them in tubs with a heat mat. When doing research on my other snakes the only stuff I heard was that tubs were small and cruel and heat mats are a danger. Just wanted to know what you guys think! Iāve seen alot of conflicting stuff .

So basically, I was given a Snake š and at first I was against the idea because snakes are considered or can be considered exotic pets and thatās not really where I am right now. I would prefer to have a cat or a dog or a bird or something thatās easier to take care of, but I wasnāt completely turned off by the idea of owning a snake so I agreed but the guy who gave me her (the snake) so that she was gonna be a ball python so I wasnāt too worried about it. But thatās not what I ended up getting⦠I came back home to a boa imperator or a central American boa and sheās big as FUCK. sheās absolutely gorgeous and I love everything about her, I love and think itās so interesting how aware and how much she watches me and is just examining her surroundings and I always wonder how it looks from her perspective. From this past week, it has been such an insightful, informative, and also very intimidating experience. Iāve never had a snake before, the only experience that I have had with a snake was not even mine, and I barely even interacted with her because I was so afraid of snakes to begin with. For a little bit of some context, iām from North Carolina and Iāve only ever really had experiences where Iāve had to avoid the snakes or unfortunately this snake got killed by my redneck ass mama because me and my brother were always playing outside barefoot. You know, country shit. Also not to say that I condone or praise that kind of behavior because I absolutely donāt, but yeah, Iāve never held a snake or even been that close to one so now owning one is veryyyyy different.
She came with a cage and some foliage and mulch and a water bowl, basically everything she needed. heat lamps too. But I always look at her and I feel so bad because Iām not accompanied to snakes and she truly is a gorgeous snake, like she belongs in a jungle or whatever climate that sheās indigenous to and she does not need to be locked up all day because sheās with someone who is unfortunately still afraid of snakes or simply because iām not home.
I talked about this too with the guy who gave me the snake and he agreed, and he said that he would research about places to safely and ethically take her to, and like I said before, I donāt know much about snakes, so Iām coming to you guys for any reptile experts for some advice and honesty.
I feel like Im overreacting just a little bit,
In the past few months, I fell in love with boas. I have the space, enclosure, and all the extras picked out. However, I'm a little nervous about bringing one into my collection because of my ball pythons. I read about IBD and how devastating it can be to them. I found a reputable breeder near by who breeds bot boas and ball pythons under the same roof, and after conversing back and forth, we feel comfortable letting a boa in, following a few bio-security rules (quarantine, hand washing, separate tongs etc). Is this a bad idea? or would it be fine following the rules
I guess I need someone else to talk some sense into me. Any other insight would be nice too.

I have a BCI, over 2m and I'm looking into getting him a bigger enclosure. At the moment his enclosure is way to small for him and I'm saving up to get him a new one.
I've searched online for enclosures for his size but it seems like they don't really sell them in that size... So I've had three thoughts:
1.) Buy one of those big bearded dragon enclosures
2.) Get someone to build the enclosure
3.) Buy two enclosures and merge them
(1) I don't necessarily know if bearded dragon enclosures are waterproof or not so I'm a but hesitant on that. I haven'tseen actual enclosuresin stores but what I've seen online about size it seems like a good size.
(2) I know someone who will build the enclosure for free (big bonus) but the material I don't know how much it will cost, it seems cheap but I won't set my expectations to that.
(3) Buying two enclosures AND merging them together does seem so expensive to do especially buying the enclosures themselves. Also the possibility of something breaking in the process seems like a nightmare...
The only issue at the moment is that I don't have space for a big enclosure, it honestly breaks my heart to not give my baby boy the best home but I let him free roam everyday so that he isn't convinced 24/7.
P.S. his enclosure is high and wide but not long, about half his length...

I personally always adored boas and am starting to consider possibly getting one from one of the local rescues. The thing is, both species are regularly up for adoption and I thought I'd ask here what everyone's thoughts are on what the differences are. Cause so far most results online seem to say they're pretty similar and I mostly focused all my enthusiasm over the year on the wild specimens father than thinking about the differences of the two in captivity.
Also, what is everyone's opinion on owning both boas and ball pythons, given the disease transmission risk coming from boas?
Hoping I don't sound stupid, I'm still not used to Reddit and I'm really trying to not come across as an idiot.
Trying my best and obviously not looking to get a new snake tomorrow, so no worries about that, if anything it may be a topic in a few months or years.
