Hey blues-folks! I'm pretty stoked to finally release my debut album, Blood On The Moon.

It's a punchy blues guitar rock record with ten tracks, with a bit of alt-country thrown into the middle to settle the mood. Most of it was recorded in my home studio, with the drums recorded at a separate studio.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

I started playing guitar almost 6 years ago but started taking lessons 1.5 years ago which really improved my playing. My teacher wanted me to compose an original solo on this classic SRV track so I gave it a go. Hope you enjoy!

Any feedback is welcome 🙏

Haven’t played in a loooong time, shaking the cobwebs off with a new amp and cab day. Victory 40 Deluxe through a Port City 1x12. The cab I got for a steal, like $200. Hate the speaker though, it’s a British Invasion. Thinking of replacing it with a Celestion Creamback. Recommendations welcome.

Question Soloing/riff ideas for Love is Strong by Rolling Stones

Hi all,

I'm a beginner and am trying to jam over some of my favourite songs. One song that I'm particularly fond of is Love is Strong by Rolling Stones. However, unlike a lot of other songs that I've played over, this does not use chords in a particular key (at least not that I can figure out). The chords playing over the verse are A, C, G and back to A. The chords used in the chorus/bridge are mainly D, F, G and C.

So far I'm just playing major pentatonic riffs while following the chords (so playing licks in A major pentatonic over the the A major chord, licks in C major pentatonic over the the C major chord, and so on...). While that sounds okayish, it doesn't really feel bluesy and does not sound anywhere near as good as the harmonica riffs that Mick Jagger is playing in the actual song (which apparently is in D, as per Google).

So my question to you all... if you were asked to jam over this song, what would your approach be? And what kind of scales, patterns and ideas would you use?

Thanks!

Question Blues Jams - What pre requisite knowledge do I need?

Hello Everyone!

I have been playing guitar for about two years and learned about a local ‘jam’ in my town that is open to anyone. I think it would be a blast to play with others but don’t want to show up and be a problem for others musicians/ruin the flow of things.

Can you please help me understand what techniques/theory/songs I should know so I don’t become a problem for others if I show up to a jam?

Things I have already learned:

I know all of my pentatonic shapes and most CAGED scale shapes, I know all basic open chords and an ‘E/A/C shape bar chords, I know the notes on my E and A strings pretty well. I have been practicing some intervals (like knowing where to go from an E shaped bar root to get to a 3rd/5th/6th but I am still a bit slow figuring out some chord progression unless the chord names are stated.

For songs I know the basic 12 bar blues structure (but not many variants) and have done some improv in pentatonic scales (often with jam tracks on YouTube).

I play with a pick and a bit of finger style, some more recent songs I have learned are Give Me One Reason - Tracy Chapman, Queen Bee - Taj Majal, and Spike Driver Blues - Mississippi John Hurt (at about 80% speed for this one) if that helps with showing about my skill level.

Thank you all for your time and help! 😊

Figured Id post this. I know Clapton and the brit blues players get a lot of shit for 'taking' a genre or 'ripping off' other players. Good to read what the actual players who were influencing those guys, thought about them.

Hey all, I recently quit Instagram where some of y’all may have known me as PhonyRiceUnit. Getting started again here on Reddit hoping it’s more community driven than Insta.

Starting over is a challenge certainly because I am well known as a flatpicker, Travis picker, mandolin, banjo, and pedal steel player around the world of bluegrass. So I figured why not start where it started for me, the first bluegrass tune I ever learned which was Doc Watson’s ‘Deep River Blues’ that I taught myself off of a CD when I was 14.

Also picked up and moved to Missoula after 21 years in Nashville so here’s to new beginnings!

Enjoy!
