Workplace Conflict Anybody else struggle about accidentally becoming the tattler against a specific coworker or group?
I’d originally posted this in an ADHD sub, but apparently they felt it didn’t fit. Despite my actions being primarily due to my ADHD.
So, I work in a warehouse. We’re generally pretty lenient and chill. Show up, wear the proper clothes and equipment, work, go home.
I like rules. If they seem reasonable and I can’t get hurt by following them, I’m happy to follow them. If they seem unreasonable, I definitely struggle about following them. Small things, like we’re not supposed to have our phones with us. As long as we’re not using them while out on the work floor and they’re kept out of sight, management doesn’t really care.
My coworker, Kevin, happily breaks ALL of the rules. He’ll be sitting at the time clock 20 minutes before the end of shift, we’re allowed only the last 12 minutes. He’ll listen to his phone CONSTANTLY out on the floor, especially during sports season. I also live in a state that sent a team to the World Series, which doesn’t help. He constantly takes 20 minute breaks, we’re only allowed 10. He whips through the stop signs out on the work floor with his forklift without even slowing down and sounding his horn. He walks out on the floor with his street shoes on, instead of his steel-toes. He’s called me an ass and later claimed he did so in “an attempt to alter my behavior.” No, he doesn’t have any power over me. He’s lifted up a skid almost as high as him, with his truck, and then stood nearly directly under the forks. That’s a MAJOR no-no. I’ve reported all of these to management because we’re constantly being told “if you see something, say something.”
Tonight was another “I’m going to sit down at the clock 20 minutes early” night. So, I asked our boss since, if he was allowed to, did that mean everybody was? Now Kevin is getting himself a write-up tomorrow. I’m not purposely trying to focus on him, he’s just constantly breaking rules or being unsafe in front of me. And why should he be able to get away with stuff that would get anybody else written up or fired?
