What’s wrong with my Begonia maculata?

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi everyone! Some leaves on my Begonia maculata have brown, crispy edges and pale or yellowish patches, as shown in the photo.

It's next to an east-facing window and only gets direct sunlight early in the morning, for two hours at most.

I'm in Córdoba, Argentina. Recent outdoor weather records (October 12-27) show average relative humidity of around 70%. These are outdoor figures, rather than measurements taken next to the plant.

Does anyone recognize these symptoms? Any ideas on what could be causing this or what I should check

Help! Tragic news :(

Kinda sad this morning because my brand new Ginny galaxy I just got 20 days ago (and spent $50 on) developed powdery mildew. I realized about 4 days ago and doused it in copper fungicide, which fried most of the remaining leaves 🙃 I have faith she will bounce back, but man is it disappointing. Luckily, it was quarantine so my other plants are fine. Any other advice would be appreciated.

Help! Stem rot?

I am pretty new to the hobby, I got this begonia from botanicaz (70 v1) mid August.. It lost all of its older leaves when I repotted it and recently has given me a lot of new growth. However, the stem seems to have gone really limp. I had to stake it, as it was laying down. I am not sure where to go from here.

General Begonia Question Help Me Learn to Keep a Begonia Alive

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

I have had several begonias now and I struggle to keep them alive constantly. Two of my three currently living 🫠 have struggled nonstop with what appears to be powdery mildew….but one of them (pictured) though does not seem to have the same…wipe-off-able powder but instead seems to be “baked in” white spots. Is this powdery mildew or just signs of distress? My other non-mildew baby has been struggling as well, which I believe to be caused by lack of watering (I’ve struggled historically with a lot of root rot which has turned me into a bit of an underwaterer and it seems to be that begonias tend to want to have more water than some other plants - correct me if I’m wrong.

So, let me know what you suggest I try to be a better begonia parent and how to avoid/fight off these evil white spots. Thanks!

That leaf at the bottom of the pot is one I took off. The leaves seem to be slowly migrating their way to face the light, but i'm afraid they won't make the full trip because it's not they're natural orientation. Relatively new to this, so i'd very much love some advice if anyone can help!

Hi, when I got this cane begonia, it was labeled as Silver Spot. But I've seen people with what looks like mine, and they call it White Ice. When I Googled it, it said Silver Spot and White Ice are different. So basically, I want to know what type she is.

My Cecile has developed these brown blotches. They don’t scrape off or anything and they definitely seem to be welts. Any ideas for the cause? I was thinking a fungal infection but I really don’t know.

Ps: no I’m not talking about the white. I know those are natural.

General Begonia Question Lights and Color Question

Post image

I was told that my 2 rows of T8s for 12 hours are too much, yet I've noticed the old nursery leaves have very little color compared to the ones I grew.

I considered it's fertilizer I use once a month (acid lovers) but noticed new leaves under the canopy have the same lesser color. So which is it?

Conditions are roughly 80 degrees and 60%, and they go through buckets of water daily under those lights. I have about 30 plants and pings in the cabinet together.

Look at my literally resurrected Begonia Aka "BEATRIX". Just about a month ago i received this plant and a really dead plant from "Etsy". Need i say more? "Beatrix" was literally 2 sticks sticking out the dirt , after she dropped the new leaf she was getting . So I figured if I just give her a lil tlc and a lil push with the begonia fert i have just maybe. 🤞🙏 Well now just look at my beauty B.😊😊😊😊😊 I'm literally so proud of what's supposed to be a Fireworks Begonia. Buttttt she strongly resembles the Harmonys starry night Begonia so that's up for debate. Also look at her new home i bought just for her .( Disregard my other one leafed Begonia. She struggling so i put her in there for the mean time) ## yougrowgirl( first pic is what she looked like when I received her. Then, second picture is how it all began with just her two stems and then last photos is the progress until now.) Oh yeah and that littlest leaf just stays that size what's up with that ?? It's been growing way longer then the other 2 new leafs wierd. It's like that leafs stunted for some odd reason.??

Begonia ID Help with Identifying 3 begonias please 🙏

I have 1 begonia and 2 props that I have no idea what type they are.

The first 3 photos are of a begonia I picked up at Home Depot, I can’t find lighting for the pics that do its sparkling justice.

The 4th and 5th photos, and the 6th and 7th photos are of 2 wet sticks I received in a mystery box of lots of different wet sticks that I’m growing out.

Any help identifying them would be greatly appreciated, especially with the 2 small props since I’m not sure if I should be keeping them in super high humidity once they’re fully ready to pot up or not. less

New to begonia’s, should I prune tips for a bushier plant & when to repot?

My sister had a stem from the mother plant she threw away . I snatched it outa the trash & quickly put it in water. I got a few roots & stuck it in a chunky soil mix with a grow light above it. That was 2 months ago , and now I’m wondering if I should repot it & should I prune it so it’s grows bushier? If I should prune it where do I start at? Btw the stem had one tiny leaf & nothing else’s so everything you see is grow off from that stem ( the stem was about 4’ long)
