Finding the Wiki

As promised, here's a brief guide to accessing the wiki! Overwhelmingly people are viewing this sub on their phones using the reddit app so, for now, this guide is mainly just for new reddit. (This will be updated as necessary!)

Using the Reddit App:

  1. Go to r/beginnerastrology!
  2. Directly below the sub's description, there are 3 tabs. Click the one that says About.
  3. Click the teal button that says "Wiki"
  4. Welcome to the Wiki index! This shows all the available wiki pages.

You can also click Menu which will show you the same menu that appears at the top of the subreddit if you are viewing new reddit on the computer.

New Reddit - On the Computer:

There are a few ways to acces the wiki here. They all are accessed from the main page of the sub. One is by going to the menu, clicking one of the dropdown tabs and selecting the specific wiki you are looking for (ie. Ethics, Planets, Subreddits). There is also a menu tab Wiki which will bring you to the wiki index. There is also a button on the sidebar that says Wiki which also brings you to the Wiki Index.

Also, here's the link for the Wiki Index just in case!

I may have went a bit overboard linking the Wiki Index, but now there should be no trouble finding it at all! :)

The Wiki Index will be your best friend clearly, if you choose to use the resources in the Wiki!

That's all for now folks! There's a new recurring post in the works that will be launched soon so stay tuned!

Discussion How do you use your astrology to know things about your life?

Hello, I am have been getting more and more knowledge about astrology over the last year I’d say and I see so much about what certain transits mean or how they’re supposed to work for you in your life. The problem is it feels like I don’t have any real cleans answers to it for my own astrology.

Like for example right now with the Venus retrograde I have felt my love life change on me quickly. Like I was talking/reconnecting to someone nearly every day and now I’m not which coincided with the start of Venus retrograde. Which is like hard to make sense of for me? Does that mean things will go back to normal after it ends? Is my person experiencing similar themes and feelings I am?

I know all this has people feeling different for sure I just don’t know if during these kinds of transits am I supposed to do something about it or just sit with this?

Yeah I am mostly losing my mind over this Venus retrograde and likely the mercury one too as I am a Virgo, Virgo rising and Scorpio Venus. I guess I just look to these transits or what appear to be someone the goods ones to help me receive some goods things for once?

Discussion If you could restart your experience with Astrology what would you tell your beginner self?

Would you recommend different books or courses? And if so - which ones? What do you regret most and alternatively - what are you glad you did? What things would you do differently, if any?

I find that many beginners can easily feel overwhelmed and confused. Sometimes it's really easy to miss the stepping stones and basics due to how vast and alluring Astrology is as a whole. Many start to view factors of Astrology (placements, signs) as fixed factors that shall be memorized and directly interpreted the same upon each individual. This is where the fluidity and subjectiveness of it all comes into play.

Discussion Any transit that you realized was doing more good than bad, but only in hindsight?

I've had transit Neptune in my 1st house for 18+ years. It first entered when I was around 12 years old. My 1st house starts at 18 degrees Aquarius and ends at 28 degrees Pisces. I always felt confused about who I am (or want to be), lost in life and unable to take direct action. While my whole natal chart points to that, I also believed transit Neptune had some effect on me.

Recently, both transit Saturn (saturn return) and Neptune left my first house in the same short period. I was looking forward to them leaving and wondered how life may feel like after. I knew the change would take time and wouldn't happen overnight, but the change happened within weeks. It just wasn't what I was expecting.

I honestly thought life would feel lighter and be more clear, but what I started to feel is numbness. Everything I ever dreamed of, wanted, my hopes, my beliefs, etc. seem so out of reach now. I barely had much to stand on (existentially and spiritually) before, but now, it is so much worse. I am starting to feel apathetic towards life in general, my future, everything I wanted, dreamed of, or even craved. Even my enjoyment of forming opinions, thinking about random things and my curiosity has died down and my mind feels too quiet, rational and bleak.

I have a difficult chart, and a prominent 1st house containing Mercury and Saturn. I also have a 12th house Sun conjunct Neptune and Uranus (both in the 12th), so maybe Neptune transiting my 1st was a blessing for me and was somehow encouraging the good aspects of my 12th house sun while toning down the harshness of my 1st house Saturn.

What are your experiences with transit Neptune in the 1st or any other transit?

General Question Appearance change in venus retrograde

ive been thinking about dyeing my hair brown for MONTHS now (since june) and it's not a super drastic change like i just wanna go from black hair to dark brown hair. today i initially booked a hair appointment for november 1st not realizing it was retrograde but quickly changed it to november 14th (the day after retrograde is over) is that too soon? I don't wanna have to wait until the end of november or december because i want this hair color for fall... should i have just kept the november 1st date since it isn't a drastic appearance change or an impulsive one? is the november 14th day too soon after the retrograde is over?

General Question How different do oppositions and squares express themselves?

I understand why they are different aspects as per the angle they form, but people often lump them together as “they’re both challenging aspects”, and leave it at that

Say I have moon square Uranus and you have moon opposite Uranus.

People will just say; both have a difficulty balancing emotions with variety/need for freedom. But how differently can these two aspects manifest?

General Question Did anyone quit studying astrology because their chart depressed them too much?

I have a pretty difficult chart. I know a lot of it is true that is why I was drawn to it in the first place aftef having gotten a reading. Romantic rwlationships seem impossible, becomibg healthier seems impossible. 6 retrogade planets including an almost statiinary mars 4th house scorpio stellium in mars, moon saturn. Saturn mars square, mars square ascendant ....combusted sun venus. I had this a few years ago with EMDR and tapping where I was hellbent on working with this and convinced I could work through some trauma and in the end I spemt my last money on something that did not work. I generally have a tendency to get obsessed about things. But I guess those of us whose life feel like a neverending circle of suffering jump on every thing that promises relieve . Astrology is obviously different, to me it gives me more answers to questions I had for a long time. But honestly I cant deal with the answers.

Discussion Structure of astrology readings

Hello everyone!

I have been interested in astrology since I was little but only started studying it now. I already have read 3 books (more to go), taken notes, organized them, and read a few charts for myself.

The thing is, I have been thinking of giving my mother a birthday present (in January) with an Astrology reading with more things (snail club style). since she is always asking me when am I going to read her chart lol

The thing is I have only read charts for myself and I do not know how I can structure it so she understands (she really doesn’t know anything about astrology she is very on the pop culture astrology side). I feel like if I go house by house she may not understand it, but maybe I can do like 12 themes (houses) or something like that? I don’t know how to do it since then aspects occur between different houses etc and my mind just understands the chart but doesn’t know how to explain it

Can anyone give me advice on how to structure it? If anyone has gotten or does readings how do you do it?

Thank you!

Discussion What course of events and/or exposures led to your interest in Astrology?

I think a large majority of people from the West are exposed to Astrology via pop culture, monthly horoscopes in magazines, social media etc., but when did it get to a point where you wanted to dive deeper and actually cast your own chart and attempt to interpret it? - Or consider consulting an Astrologer or someone with some experience to interpret your chart?

Was it during a big shift in your life or during some difficult moments?

I think that a vast majority have started their journey with some skepticism and I'm curious to know at which point did it start to resonate on a deeper level, or when did your interest peak more?

General Question Is Oct 23rd really the final cutoff for returns during Venus retrograde or is it Nov 14th?

I've been seeing completely contradictory advice all over social media about Venus retrograde and exes.
On one hand, I'm seeing posts claiming that October 23rd is a hard deadline if your ex or friend doesn't come back to reconcile by then, it's completely over. But on the other hand, I'm seeing warnings that anyone who reconciles before November 14th is doomed to fail, and that you shouldn't even reach out or entertain a return until after the retrograde period wraps up. Which one is it? Or when should you/they reach out?

Technique Question what kind of chart would i cast for a big change in personality?

So in late 2023 and 2024 i basically had a huge mental breakdown and change in personality. it was not fun and I'm still dealing with the after effects. i believe it's bc pluto was entering my 11h where i have mars and neptune conjunct (or it should've i'd have to look at specific dates for that sign change). would a solar return chart show this or profection year? i just don't know if transits are the only thing that explain it.

Technique Question Solar returns rooted place

Hi guys,

Just getting into solar astrology and I’m so confused about the location to root my solar return to. Will it be for my birth place or where I am at the moment?

In my case I have been living in a different country/ place from my birth place for the past 9 years (for study it’s not permanent yet) and I’m unsure where to root it too.

I hear different things; some people root it to their actual birth charts, some travel just so their return is rooted to the place they’re at on their birthday

Thank you for any help guys

General Question which house system should I use and birth time question

so I've heard that placidus is an inaccurate house system but that's what I've been using all this time so it'd be nice to see which one I should use instead

I also have a bit of a problem with figuring out my exact birth time. My parents said I was born at 2 pm but it could be a few (like 5 or 10 minutes) to like a big(30,40 minutes) variation bc they most likely just generalised the birth time, I was born around 2 pm and I could just put that in but there's a high chance it could've been a few minutes before or after. what should I do about this and what changes does one even see if there's a change in a few minutes. Is a few minutes even gonna be significant?

any answers would be appreciated thnx

Discussion What is the actual meaning behind the North Node?

No other aspect of astrology I ever learnt about seems so controversial. People will tell you that the North Node represents what you’re incapable of, your opposite, and the parts of your life that seem hopelessly out of control simply because of those incapabilities and innate shortcomings.
I am new to all this and very far from knowledgable, but most of that reads like „You hate pottery and you suck at it. But you‘re doomed to spend your whole life working in it until you hopefully suck a bit less.“

Then we have the dragon head and tail metaphor, and that somehow after a certain age limit, you start being more like your North than your South Node.

It seems very confusing to me, especially since I still think of the North Node energy as an energy that manifests in a person, a power they can tap into when they need it the most, a part of them and not something foreign. Can someone help me better understand this?
