Anyone else on HWY26 get their windshields cracked last night around 9:30pm?

So to add some context, last night, my sister and I were making our way into Portland from Beaverton around 9/9:30pm when suddenly there was a Loud boom and a huge crater developed in the glass. I didn’t see anything coming towards me nor did I see the object make an impact to the glass. Shortly after this, I pulled over several hundred yards from where it occurred to check out the damage, and at the time, other cars were pulled over as well but well behind me. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but now with the news of the closure and this occurring after the 217 exit but before the Sylvan exit, it was me wondering if instead of a rock or whatever I could have been electric? Reason I say that is because i rechecked the damage this morning in the daylight I noticed that not only were there the cracks but also what seems to be deep scratches in a uniform shape - not at all cracks but actual scratches. Which is not at all typical from what I’ve experienced with other types rocks or debris hitting my windshield. Keep in mind, this is a brand new vehicle, 2026. I am making this post to see if anyone else has this occur to them. My running theory is that I must have run over, or a power line or cord or something electrical must have caused the damage. I’m waiting to submit anything to insurance just yet because if other people experienced the same thing last night. I’m gonna try to post pictures of the damage - I also have pictures of a prior time my windshield made contact with a chunk of snow last night.
Thanks!

TL;DR:
I suspect that my vehicle must have made some sort of contact with something electrical last night and want to know if anyone got their windshields cracked last night (October 27 26 around 9:30pm)

Edit:
I made a post on the r/AskPortland which has more details. I made the post here first but it was removed. Anyway, here are the pictures of damages.

Anyone got a good mechanic they trust?

Went to get an oil change today, and am tired of places like Jiffy Lube constantly trying to upsell me on stuff. Anyone got recs on a trustworthy mechanic?

Do we get voting stickers?

Hello everyone, does any location give out the classic “I voted” stickers? Yes I know you can buy them or make them easily. I do mostly vote by dropping my ballot at the Beaverton library drop offs, so I understand that it would be hard to get stickers anyway. Just curious if we have that anywhere in Washington county or more specifically Beaverton.

City studying takeover of Garden Home Library

Saw this in the Oregonian. The city has realized that the Garden Home Library (a non-profit non-city-run library) is located within city limits, and is now looking into what their options might be.

IMO sounds like a real busybody move. They might better spend their time fixing problems impacting their residents.

Expired food at Fred Meyer

Is anyone else having this problem with Walker Fred Meyer? This is now the fourth time in three months that I’ve had to return expired food. The items so far have been between 4–6 months past their expiration date, and the item I purchased today was nearly a full year expired (November 2025).

The last time this happened, I was told that staff hours were being cut and that this could be a contributing factor. I completely understand that being short-staffed can lead to mistakes, but after this happening four times now, I’m starting to wonder if this is an ongoing issue or if I’m just extremely unlucky.

And before anyone asks, no, these aren’t canned goods or products with best by dates that are merely a suggestion. These are expired food items that shouldn’t still be sitting on the shelves.

Is anyone else experiencing this at the Walker Fred Meyer, or is it just me?

Tons of cops blocking off every way onto the 26 coming from cedar hills area. Looked like lots of smoke, but it could have been fog and the angle was bad to see onto the actual freeway. Does anyone know what happened?

EV mechanic recommendations

I’m looking for a mechanic in the Beaverton/Hillsboro area that can replace the 12v battery (not the big one) in a VW EGolf, ideally at a better price than a dealership, like Herzog-Meier.

In terms of electric car repair I think this is fairly routine so they wouldn’t necessarily need to be hard core EV specialists, just as long as they can code the battery.

Thanks in advance!

Book discussion group recruiting new members

Do you love to read? Do you enjoy talking to others about what you have read?

We are a book discussion group that have been meeting in the Beaverton/Hillsboro area for nearly a decade. Periodically we need to recruit some fresh faces.

1) We read across several genres (fantasy, SF, literary, non-fiction, etc.)
2) We meet on the last Monday of the month at 7pm. Mostly in a public space in Tanasbourne (in summer we meet on a member’s nearby patio).
3) We take turns recommending books to read.

Our November book will be “The Last Be Keeper” by Julie Carrack Dalton.

Our entire reading list can be found here:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/823160?shelf=read&sort=date_read&order=d

DM me if you are interested in joining us.

Legal name change, what a headache. Anybody done it recently?

hey yall. I'm trying to legally change my name and thought the process was straight forward but apparently it's not. I submitted the form online last week and this afternoon I got an email rejecting my application because I submitted it through the state portal. apparently I was supposed to submit it to my county (then why was it an option online???????) they kindly sent me the forms I need to fill out but I'm finding it all very confusing. I don't understand what one of the pages is asking for, like there's literally no instructions and it just has a bunch of lines as if I'm supposed to write a short essay or something?? to make matters worse, it looks like you have to apply in person, no online forms or email submissions available. the county office is only open during my work hours, so now I have to take time off to go get this done.

I'm not changing my name as a result of getting married, divorced, or changing my sex. it's supposed to be just be a simple name change, but it's quickly becoming a pain.

yes a part of this is me complaining because I had a shit day and want to commiserate, but I would also love some feedback from others who have experienced this. Is going to the courthouse really the best way to get this done or is there an easier way? any tips? I'll take all the guidance I can get. thanks neighbors.

Hot Hands Bulk?

I buy those variety packs of Hot Hands every week because my feet and hands have such bad circulation. I have been trying to see if anywhere local sells them bulk because I feel like I am not being the most cost effective. I couldn't find any at Costco, does anyone know of anywhere that is selling them bulk or for really cheap? And I am looking for the patches, not the rechargeable heaters.

My Fellow Folks with Chronic Illness

Hi everyone!
I’m hoping to connect with others living with chronic illnesses in the Beaverton area.
I’m Archi, 39, and I was diagnosed with a rare pituitary gland disorder about five years ago. While I’ve made it through the initial storm, life has certainly changed in ways I never anticipated. I also live with fibromyalgia and some ongoing, undiagnosed autoimmune-related issues (I’m seeing a rheumatologist regularly, but there are still more questions than answers).
One thing I’ve learned through this experience is just how misunderstood chronic illness can be, especially when it isn’t visible. I’ve heard everything from “But you look fine!” to dismissive comments like “Well everyone has something.”
My health has also influenced some major career decisions. I stepped away from a very demanding career, only to eventually return because of uncertainty and instability elsewhere. Along the way, I’ve become increasingly reluctant to talk about my health unless absolutely necessary. And I think that, in itself, can be incredibly isolating.
I’d love to connect with others who understand what it’s like to navigate a lifelong health condition—not just the physical challenges, but the emotional and mental aspects too. Whether it’s sharing experiences, offering support, or simply having conversations with people who understand without needing an explanation, I think that connection could mean a lot.
Thanks for reading my long post! ❤️

Chorizo for breakfast burrito

We love breakfast burritos, and specially chorizo. We tried the chorizo at Fred Meyer, and while it’s OK, we are wondering if they’re better breakfast Theresa out there for breakfast burritos. Do you have any recommendations of where to go get some chorizo?

3d printing filament recycling

I have a box of filament scraps from my projects. I would love to recycle them myself but I don't have the gear. Throwing it away feels bad and is my last resort.

Anybody know of a service or an individual who can recycle the plastic waste?

Freshly roasted coffee beans?

We are looking to upgrade our coffee station by getting a Breville espresso machine. We are definitely newbies but we have been educating ourselves with the equipment and how to make great espresso.

One thing we keep reading is to get freshly roasted coffee beans, preferably roasted less than 21 days.

  1. Any recommendations in the Beaverton area?
  2. What are good brands?

Taste of Sichuan- your fave dishes?

We love ToS- definitely our favorite Chinese restaurant in the city. We tend to always get the same dishes but wanting to try new items.

We tend to go for more savory (not sweet) items:

Chongqing Chicken

Chopped Hot Pepper Fish

Green Onion Pancakes

Xiao Long Bao (pork)

Yang Zhou Fried Rice

Beef Chow Mein (hand shaven)

Dry Cooked String Beans

I've tried their Swimming Fire Fish and Fish in Spicy broth with 2 peppers- very good but doesn't make our top 10.

I've been told (by our server) that the Stir Fried Rice Noodle with Beef (#21) is also worthy of a try.

What are your faves?
