Writing Down Bass Riffs: What’s your favorite method?
What’s everyone’s favorite method for writing down songs or riffs so you don’t forget how to play it later? Tabs? Standard notation? Something else?
Right now, I’m trying to get more fluent with chord progressions and intervals, so I’ve started using somewhat of a hybrid of Roman numerals and interval numbers with standard rhythm notation below.

Ho appena iniziato a suonare, sto cercando di imparare lo slap ma il pollice va per fatti suoi..
A volte riesco a colpire la corda con precisione altre volte colpisco a vuoto o altre corde a caso, come si diventa precisi?

Reading sheet music consistently
I’m playing the part of electric bass in a musical and I am struggling with reading sheet music, I know the gbdfa and aceg acronyms and can read it at an alright speed, not as fast as I want though, and I often mess up the keys and the sharps and flats, but I then play it several times and just forget it, and then especially with key changes I mess up the part. Is there an easy way to learn to read sheet music fast for bass, and any exercises I should be doing?
Also is there a good software than can consistently turn sheet music into tabs just in case I need it?

Bass practice tips
What recommendations do you all have for a bedroom musician to build fluency to just play whatever sounds nice in the moment? At this point, my fingers have basic major and minor scale starting from second finger and first finger respectively, a bit clunkier playing the fourth finger shape of the scale. Arpeggios dialed in. Been practicing lately to random 3 or 4 chord backing tracks, mainly using roots thirds and fifths.
I’m not necessarily too interested in learning a bunch of songs note by note, really just want to play things that fill the space with fun sounds that make you want to bob your head.
Here’s a photo of my bass for the hell of it. Been loving my Ibanez EHB1005MS
Also, have been using what I learn from bass as a foundation to teach my 5 year old son guitar. He’s been having a blast chugging away on his little 2/3 scale Jackson dinky (:

Mi dite delle canzoni divertenti da suonare con il plettro al basso?

Perché non riesco a imparare una canzone intera? Vorrei fare qualche cover ma non ci riesco..
Fin quando si tratta di imparare intro lo trovo divertente, ma se devo imparare tutta la canzone mi scoccio e lascio perdere, avete soluzioni?

Point-of-View Lessons for budding/intermediate bassists?
Recently, I’ve seen a lot of beginner and intermediate bass players asking for tutorials filmed from the musician’s point of view, rather than the traditional audience-facing perspective.
Tell me what you guys want to learn. Reach out to me. I’m a teacher, and I love hanging out and casually sharing knowledge that I just happen to have, especially when someone is hungry for it.
I’m not looking to monetize any of this right now. I genuinely have some time on my hands, and I’d rather spend some of it helping people who are excited about learning music. If I can make something easier for somebody to understand, or help them get past something they’ve been struggling with, that’s rewarding enough for me.
I’m considering making bass guitar tutorials filmed from the player’s actual eye-level perspective, looking down at the neck and fretting hand, just as I see the instrument when I’m playing.
What song would you guys like me to teach first?
I’ll tackle just about anything, regardless of genre or difficulty. I’d rather hear what people genuinely want to learn than decide for them.
A little about me: I’ve been playing bass guitar for over 20 years, across a wide variety of genres, styles, and techniques. I’ve also taught bass guitar, as well as guitar and drum set at beginner and foundational levels.
Bass is my primary instrument, and my ability to teach it extends well into advanced techniques and musicianship. I’m confident that I can help someone progress from their first notes to a very high level of proficiency, provided they’re willing to practice, stay engaged, and put in the work.
The reason I’m interested in the player’s-eye camera perspective is simple: I want students to see what I see when I’m playing. Rather than mentally translating movements from a camera facing the musician, you would see the fretboard, finger placement, hand positioning, and shifts from approximately the same angle you’d see on your own instrument.
I can relate to how frustrating the traditional approach can be because I remember learning back in the early 2000s. I had to print off page after page of tabs from Ultimate-Guitar.com, and on the rare occasions when I got to watch someone play, or later, when YouTube became popular, trying to watch their left hand and translate everything like a mirror was always such a pain in the ass. You’d have to mentally reverse what you were seeing instead of simply looking at the instrument from your own perspective. That’s a big part of why I think a player’s-eye view could make learning much more intuitive.
I can also break down techniques, explain musical concepts, and demonstrate different approaches to playing. But I’d like to start with something somebody actually wants to learn.
I’ve taught bass in person, but never remotely.
I do have a Twitch channel where I’ve streamed games, but if I get a few requests for a song, I’ll have a video up very quickly. You’re all welcome to visit my Twitch channel.
Since Twitch only retains VODs for 14 days under my current arrangement, I’ll upload any relevant instructional videos to YouTube so they remain available.
I will make my Twitch and YouTube channel available if need be.

Bass part originally played by John Entwistle. He would play live with a much more distorted sound and also cover the electric guitar parts in the intro and interlude.
Find the complete song on YouTube. The sheet music is available through my website.

An app to help me practice rhythm!
Hi everybody!
I've been learning and practicing bass for one year now. It's so much fun!
I use a mix of YouTube videos, apps(Yousician, Rocksmith+), online classes (Musora/playbass)
And recently I came across this amazing lesson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_4O0A6hnBE
It inspired me to create this tool: https://batuke-landing.pages.dev/
Let me know what you think...
I hope it helps you practice rhythm, too.
