This is everything I hate about Bali social media tourists in a 10 second video.

- Not knowing how to drive a scooter and needlessly endangering others
- Completely shitting on local dress codes
- Letting local people take care of your mess while just sitting there laughing

Really infuriating šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

Itinerary Question Any Eurovision Asia 2026 watch parties?

• Upvotes

Hi guys!

I am visiting Bali in November and I am a sucker for the Eurovision šŸ‡ŖšŸ‡ŗšŸŽ¤(I know...it is a guilty pleasure) so I was thrilled to see Eurovision having an AsianšŸŒ edition while I am in Indonesia (though my mind is blown that Indonesia is not joining with so many great singers?!!!) I saw that Australia has Courtney Act as a commentator so I was wondering if there are any drag or ozzie bars broadcasting this for a watch party?

Thanks so much for helping this fan out! šŸ™Œ

Itinerary Question Best local Islands for Family with Disabilities

• Upvotes

Hi All,

Looking for what best local island trips are best for our group.

I have back issues - long walking a problem

Youngest is non verbal autistic but the issue is he has NO SENSE OF DANGER. The beaches with hard, steep stairs could involve him launching himself off it.

Normally we do some boat trips around thailand etc with no issue, its more the stairs etc. After seeing the last posts about bad access to certain beaches I thought best to check

Question Did the hospital overcharge me?

Post image
64 Upvotes

My mom strained both her wrists, they say she just needs a closed reduction (so no surgery), yet the quote for the ā€˜surgery team’ is 51 Million IDR. Is this normal? Seems a bit outrageous to me given that it’s just a closed reduction.
Hospital is Ari Canti Ubud

Question How reliable is the internet in Bali for remote work?

Hey! I'm planning to work remotely from Bali for a couple of weeks and wondering how stable the internet is, both fiber and mobile (4G/5G).

I need a reliable connection for daily Microsoft Teams calls and screen sharing.

Are outages or random disconnects common? Is mobile internet a reliable backup? Does it depend on the area?

Would love to hear from people working remotely there. Thanks!

Itinerary Question How difficult are the beach descents in Nusa Penida? Looking for honest downsides/experiences.

Hi everyone,

I am planning a trip to Nusa Penida and want to visit some of the famous beaches (like Kelingking Beach and Diamond Beach). I know they look beautiful in photos, but I want to know the realistic downsides before I go.

For those who have actually climbed down to the actual sand:

  • How hard is the climb down and up? Is it just steep stairs, or is it actual rock scrambling?
  • What are the main downsides? (e.g., intense heat, crowds, lack of safety rails, slippery rocks?)
  • How was your overall experience? Was the effort worth it, or is viewing it from the top enough?

For context, I have [mention your fitness level here, e.g., average fitness / hike occasionally], and I will be wearing proper sneakers.

Would love to hear your honest thoughts and any safety tips you have. Thanks!

Question Rimba by Ayana Bali

Thinking of going to Bali mid-February for 3D2N as a pre-wedding vacation/honeymoon. I’ve been seeing Ayana Bali a lot on my feed and after doing some research, I’ve seen a lot of negative reviews. But this resort checks almost all our boxes, especially the part where a room with pool access is only $370/night. We don’t intend to leave the resort, we’re just there to recharge, eat, swim, and drink, and not spend too much on room rates.

Is Ayana overcrowded on a weekday (Wednesday-Friday) in February? How are the food prices inside the resort? Do you have any recommended resorts besides Ayana that won’t break the bank?

Thank you all!!

Information Any recommended shops if I’m in Trans Studio Mall?

Hi, I’m 2 days away from going back to my country but it’s a shame that I weren’t able to buy anything below:

Balinese soap
Luwak coffee beans/powder
Cookies
Srabi Ny.Handayani

May I know where can I find them all in one spot? Srabi might require me to travel another route just to buy one, but was hoping that one branch could be near to other items stated above so I can save commute fares.

Any other souvenirs you want to suggest are welcome because I want to take home something for my partner.

Information Let's talk about what ā€œauthenticā€ and ā€œnon-touristyā€ Bali actually mean (And maybe help people get better recommendations)

Something might be getting in the way of people getting good recommendations and useful answers in this sub.

People are fairly regularly wanting recommendations and using terms like ā€œauthenticā€Ā  and ā€œnon-touristyā€. But this is going to mean different things to different people.

Someone whose experience of Bali is mainly Canggu or Uluwatu might find Amed or Lovina ā€œnon-touristyā€. Someone whose experience is mainly Ubud might find Sideman more ā€œauthenticā€. I wouldn't include any of those locations in my own ā€œnon-touristyā€ or ā€œauthenticā€ recommendations.

None of us are wrong. We just have different meanings for the same terms based on our own experiences.

On my trips I can go days without seeing another tourist in Bali. My record is 6 days. My goal is 10. But that happened gradually, over multiple visits, combined with increasing my Bahasa Indonesia vocab, and having my own transport.

What works for me now won't work for a lot of people. My definitions of "non-touristy" and "authentic" are going to be very different compared to a Bali first-timer. I get that... now.

It took me a while to figure it out though. Mainly, it was the šŸ¦—šŸ¦—šŸ¦— in response to some of my "authentic" "non-touristy" recommendations that was the giveaway.

Anyway, it got me thinking that we could give better recommendations by asking a few questions before offering suggestions. Depending on the request, one or more of these might help:

  • Crowds and other tourists: Are you trying to avoid crowds, or specifically other foreign visitors?
  • Everyday local life: Do you want to see how people live, work, eat and socialise in their daily lives?
  • Culture and traditions: Are you interested in local traditions and ceremonies? Does it matter whether these happen in their usual cultural or religious context or are organised for tourists? (I'm referring to things like Kecak Fire Dance performances here)
  • Interactions with local people: Do you want to meet people outside of sales and service interactions?
  • Food: Do you want to eat local food as people actually eat it, even if menus aren't in English, dishes are unfamiliar or the food is very spicy?
  • Commercialisation: Do you want to avoid businesses designed primarily to attract foreign tourists, or are you happy with some tourist infrastructure as long as the experience "feels" genuine?
  • Comfort and convenience: How important are easy transport, staff speaking your language, plenty of accommodation choices, familiar food and predictable services?
  • Uncertainty and discomfort: Are you comfortable with things being unfamiliar, unpredictable or less convenient than in the main tourist areas?
  • Language: Are you comfortable getting by with little English, using translation apps and learning a few local phrases?
  • Travel style: Do you want to stay somewhere and explore for a while, or take easy day trips and join organised activities?
  • Expectations: What would make you feel you'd found the experience you were looking for? What would disappoint you?

Not every question will be relevant to every request, and nobody needs to answer them all. You might have better questions but you get the idea. The point is to understand what someone actually means and wants when saying "authentic' or 'non-touristy" before making recommendations.

P.S. If my theory is correct, it would explain posts like "Can anyone recommend a non-touristy beach club?" Or "I'm looking for an authentic resort in Ubud."

Question Experienced massage therapist

Currently in Jimbaran for a couple more days and would like to have a firm pressured and experienced massage. The last 2 ā€œtreatmentsā€ have been as if someone was aggressively putting sunscreen on me.

Will I have better luck in Buleleng where our next destination is?

Question Foreign visa question

What services exist to get a Second Home (E33) visa without simply ā€˜freezing’ $130k usd in a Indonesian State bank?

We are considering living and working (European & US companies not Id) for 5+ years in Indonesia. The golden visa requires $350usd of investing in Indonesia, the Second Home $130k but looks like you’re not allowed to touch it. No etf’s no investments.

I have both numbers, but i don’t want to freeze the $130k, nor invest the full $350k in 5 years.

Are there services or other solutions that avoid investing or freezing these numbers?

Genuine question, not looking to do something illegal or fraud at all. We won’t take those risks. Just curious.

Question Update on haze?

Iā€˜m currently on Sumatra and the haze is everywhere, taking away from the fun and beauty of traveling right now (will look into donations after my vacation because obviously the haze impacting my holiday is not important on a bigger note) - but how is the haze in other parts of Indonesia? Pulau Weh, Java south of Jakarta, Bali, Sulawesi… I really don’t know where to go to escape the hazešŸ™ˆ originally wanted to go to Pulau Weh but I think there’s haze now too, right?

****DIETY šŸ™„šŸ™„

I’m guessing it’s the equivalent of queztzacotl, feathered serpent ?

Considering Hinduism is generally considered a ā€˜peaceful’ religion ,

I find it interesting that much of the temple art has tons of demonic art inscriptions

Question k club reviews?

i asked chat gpt about the best ā€œbang for your buckā€ luxury resorts around the world and it narrowed down to bali as one of the top picks. i further narrowed down the options based on a more jungle vibe vs beachy. k club was one of the top picks, but not finding much info about it here on reddit, possibly because it’s a newer resort? after looking at some of the posts on this sub, im hearing a lot of warnings about tiktok/instagram traps, where the properties look amazing on social media, but not so much irl?

anyone stayed here who can provide some reviews/insights about this resort? the invisible villa seems very cool. prices seem almost too good to be true, although i realize this resort is not all-inclusive, and the restaurant, spas and other activities may be expensive.

i realize there are travel sites that have reviews and they seem mostly very good, but i always go to reddit šŸ˜‚

thanks in advance for any info

Question Bali Tattoo? Canggu Ink Club

Hi all,

Well im thinking of getting a tattoo in Bali while im over there next week. After reaching out to multiple studios for quotes, I have found one thats within my budget, but want to check with fellow Redditors before paying my deposit.

Is Canggu Ink Club good? Iv been on their social media pages and they seem to produce quality realism tatts, full sleeves etc.

The piece im wanting is a simple cross with a rose and vine wrapping around it, with a bit of shading and fine outlining.

They quoted me around 6 million - 7 million IDR and will take approximately 5 hours for the session.

Please let me know
