Official Announcement Rule Update: Business Accusations Require Verifiable Sources

Hey everyone,

We’ve recently seen an increase in posts calling out or accusing specific businesses (restaurants, food companies, employers, etc.) of unethical or harmful practices. While we understand that many of these concerns come from genuine experiences, our moderation team cannot verify the accuracy of these claims.

To maintain fairness and comply with Reddit’s site-wide rules against misinformation and harassment, we’re introducing a new rule:

Rule 9 — Unsupported Accusations About Businesses Posts or comments that make negative claims about specific businesses, employers, or organizations must include verifiable evidence (for example: a reputable news source, official statement, or public record).

Posts making unverified claims or “call-outs” will be removed.

This rule is not meant to silence discussion about the food industry or personal experiences — you’re still welcome to share stories, opinions, or reviews. We just ask that any serious allegations be supported by credible information.

This helps keep the subreddit focused on food and ensures discussions stay fair, factual, and in line with Reddit’s content policies.

Thanks for understanding and helping us keep this community respectful and trustworthy!

— The Mod Team

so much wrong with this “collab”

currently the comments pass the vibe check and it doesn’t seem like too many are “liking” this for such a big page.

ETA (I’ve had people DM me about this post, I stated this in a comment but I want to reiterate part of my problem with this):

not only is she promoting what is essentially a gambling app, she’s promoting politics being treated like a game or sports event, AND aiding them in marketing it towards women because women don’t want to use that shit.

A cookie could’ve been a cookie; she could’ve just made them cookies that said “vote!” or “I voted” or something to that effect. But these are specifically preying on the team mentality that has taken over politics.

Favorite fries?

The best (or at least some of the best) fries I've had were at Black Star Co-op. I think Cherrywood Coffee has some good ones too but Black Star was next level. You have any favorites?

Ingredient Search Thai Tamarind Paste

Hello! Does anyone know where I can buy Thai tamarind paste? Looking online it seems most stores only carry Indian tamarind concentrate which is different than Thai. This was asked a few years ago in this sub, but none of the answers specified Thai paste. Thank you!

Pizzoccheri in Austin?

I was reading about the regional Lombardy dish Pizzoccheri and want to try it. It’s cabbage, cheese, and buckwheat noodles which sounds so good to me. Anyone seen it on any menus in town? I want to try it before I attempt making it myself!

They used to be easy to find at the Indian and Pan-Asian markets but now I can’t seem to find them anywhere. Does anyone know a spot?

I DoorDashed the chicken enchiladas $11.99 which come with a side of rice, beans, and salsa and the large menudo $13.99 which comes with tortillas and was supposed to include a side of lime, onion, and cilantro but was not included in my order. I do prefer to have the toppings with menudo, but mistakes happen. The soup was still very delicious, very flavorful. The enchiladas were very good too. The chicken wasn’t too dry and the sauce was really tasty. The beans were a little bland but didn’t matter too much since I mixed them over the enchiladas.

Ingredient Search Chipotle Crema

Taco Joint's chipotle crema is a perfect sauce for their fried fish and any of their breakfast tacos. I crave this sauce often, but haven't had any success recreating it myself. Does anyone have a good copy-cat recipe?

Coffee shops that blast loud music: did I came here to listen to to your playlist or chat/connect with my friend?

This is simply a formal complaint to coffee shops in Austin that blast loud music. I do not think it’s a good idea since customers may not have the same taste in music as the person controlling the playlist. I don’t have a problem with background music, but it shouldn’t be so loud that I have to yell at my friend for us to talk. Has anyone struggled with this at a coffee shop or restaurant or is it just me. I love all locally owned coffee shops and always try to support them. Just a minor suggestion I am making haha. Cheers, all love

Central Market offers all the tea blends yet lacks in the basics

Post image
0 Upvotes

So many creative blends with all kinds of ingredients yet no simple black, green, white, rooibos and oolong tea. Why is it so hard? Blueberry rooibos? Mystic Mint? White Chai? I don’t care for creative blends with creative names.

Wheatsville coop on Guadalupe which just closed offered the basics without any of the creative blends. I want the basics without all the fluff. I don’t want tea bags either. I want loose leaf tea. I want a bulk section with the basic teas. The blends can stay but please simply include the boring basics. That’s the end of my rant. Thank you 🙏

Quiet Solo Upscale Memorial Dinner

This was a miserable year. Not entirely, but- I lost a parent. We used to always go to dinner on their birthday. Some of our best were Barley Swine, Aba, Dai Due, Rosewood Chop House(now closed). I'd like a restaurant I could go to, have an upscale, unhurried dinner with just myself and our memories.

Roya seemed to be a good choice, I picked up from here. Other than that everything looks great and I'd like to order more than I could eat. Oh well- leftovers!

Any others come to mind?

Sesame Beef

Looking for the best sesame beef in Austin.

Roughly 20 years ago there was a family owned chinese restaurant in the strip center located at 6705 Hwy 290 west, the Oakhill area. They had the absolute best crispy sesame beef and hot and sour soup in town, in my opinion. Thin tender strips of beef in a light crispy coating. I can not recall the name of the establishment. I've been on a quest to find crispy sesame beef that is even close to standards of said chinese restaurant.

Most times the beef is too thick, overly breaded, or just poor quality and excessively chewy. I'd love to hear some opinions and recommendations. Hot and sour soup is always my go to starter and only a few stand out there also.

Thanks

Honestly shocked at how much better HEB brand chips are to Doritos

Post image
238 Upvotes

This is not an ad, it's just a post to share my amazement at how good these chips are. I picked them up because I didn't want to pay 6$ for Doritos, and I couldn't believe how much better they tasted. Me and my friend both agreed and we laughed about it. They're actually so much better I wonder if Doritos used to taste like this.
