Meta So, you want to be a moderator?

While this subreddit, on paper has two moderators, in reality it has about half a moderator. I created this place, and suckered veni_vidi_vale into helping me co-moderating it, since they came here from the other audio-related subreddits.

The thing is. I've been on reddit since almost day one. I will eventually lose interest, abandon this site, or abandon this subreddit, even if I do care about music with excellent production quality.

I could have asked the mods of r/audiophile, r/audioengineering or r/headphones, and I've hinted at it in the past, but there were no takers. I don't blame either of them. They're all lovely people, and moderating is a chore. We've even agreed on a policy where we've disqualified people who volunteer themselves for the position, or who send us unsolicited requests to help moderate.

But, I'm looking to help someone bring this subreddit forward, and bring on 2-3 moderators.

The absolute, and first requirement is that your account is more than one year old, and appears to be a genuine human contributor, and you cannot have commercial connections that would affect your moderation decision: In other words, you should not have any conflict of interest.

You can apply by sending "yes" to this post, but you absolutely must meet the following two requirements:

  1. You must have an open profile. Read: If I open your profile, it should be visible, and you should not try hide your contributions to a subreddit about minions, model trains or mushrooms.
  2. Your profile must not not be marked as NSFW by reddit.

Closed or limited profiles will not be considered. Finally:

You should have been active in r/audiophilemusic, r/audiophile or r/headphones - either through commenting or posting, and you should include your last three submissions in either subreddit. If you haven't, stereoadvice or headphone is also acceptable.

This post will remain open for the duration of September.

Applications that advocate for their own suitability for the job will be immediately ignored and permanently disqualified. Just reply "I'm willing" or "Yes" to this post.

Meta I made a website that turns subreddits into radios. Here is r/audiophilemusic!

I got tired of clicking posts to discover music so I made an app that autoplays them like a radio. Thought you might like it.

Meta Ear problems are just terrible

Don't know if this belongs here, but I just need to vent. Got an ear infection last week, and basically my left ear is blocked. I haven't been able to listen to my system in a week, and I really miss it. You really don't appreciate something until it's gone.

Meta Can we enforce the rule of not allowing links to sites that require registration?

It seems to be a rule in the sidebar but lots of links get posted for tidal, apple music, spotify etc that require signing up for.

EDIT: Any mod see this?

Meta Some days I feel like going door-to-door like a Jehovah's Witness for Telarc records... "Excuse me ma'am, have you heard of Telarc high-fidelity recordings from Cleveland, Ohio?" I'm in my mid-thirties and have been on a classical learning deep dive for over a year. Can't get enough.

Meta The human ear detects half a millisecond delay in sound.

(Don't know if this is really eligible for this group, but found this will interest all of us here)

Excellent insight on how physics related to sound work:

1) Bi Amping 2) Phase 3) Time delay 4) Negative delays 5) Room acoustics 6) Digital Signal processing, EQ 7) Reflections 8) Group delay between Left and Right ears 9) Precise stereo sound stage

This may help setting up that personal Audiophile setup.

Google about the people and their research mentioned in the article, they are sine-wave-philes. :)

Meta [META] Under new management

So, I noticed that the previous moderator of /r/audiophilemusic hadn't had any Reddit activity what so ever in the past few months, and requested to be given moderator by the admins, which happened all of five minutes ago.

What does this mean for the subreddit?

  • It will still be a place to post audiophile music.
  • The intent is that this should be a place for audiophile music discovery - highlighting high production quality, not for sharing anything and everything
  • Some of the rules will change - I'm personally not overly keen on linking to Mega or torrent trackers, or other sites primarily associated with piracy. Read: Don't want to deal with DMCA complaints.
  • Style should get more in line with what you can see in /r/audiophile
  • There's going to be flair/tags - I'm not sure what type of flair or tags, though.
  • Frankly, and this is personal opinion: Lossy vs. lossless isn't all that interesting in terms of "audiophile". What's interesting is production quality.

Other than that, I'm open for suggestions. Thoughts?

And, oh. Until we've come to some agreement on the rules, submissions here are restricted. Shouldn't take more than a couple of days to agree on something, though.

Edit: I've removed every single link that were obvious copyright violations - which is why this subreddit is down to only 30-something posts again.
