Misogyny & Patriarchy karwa chauth is so fucked up

Like tf you mean you gotta STARVE yourself and be THRISTY for a whole ass day! And for what? Just so your equally fuck ass husband (who prolly doesn't care about you either because he's letting you STARVE for the idea of his longevity!) To live longer? Man this is so rubbish. As a woman, seeing other women doing around me makes me so sad. Hinduism is as far from feminism as we are from the fucking moon. Like there isn't even a single fast for a man, none! Not for his wife, kids, parents, ZERO! because oh my god how dare we starve the so called Pati "parmesvar" Ugh I'm so frustrated man. It's not even that you gotta touch his feet and shit too...and they expect me to do that too😂🫵🏻

ALSO, THIS IS IMP did you guys know, during the prayer and stories that are told during these kinda festivals, some of these stories include things like "god says, if a woman doesn't keep so and so fast, her next life will be as a dog or monkey!"🤡

Superstition The only disadvantage being an atheist is finding horror movies as boring 😎

Post image

I'm an atheist, and as Bhagat Singh said, My Atheism is not a result of vanity but pure logic, reasoning & science.

I find horror movies as boring.

I mean my friend told me to watch movies like Nun & The Conjuring in dark room with an empty chair in front.

I did exactly as he told and I watched those movies.

But it's surely an ADVANTAGE as I don't fear going in dark cuz in childhood I used to fear.

Translation !

While clearing out an open roadside gutter outside a village house, Mangru accidentally grazes his arm against a shiny new bicycle parked outside the porch, instantly drawing the fury of the upper caste woman standing nearby.

Screaming in disgust, she berates him for defiling the cycle with his untouchable hands and immediately orders buckets of water brought out to wash away the contamination.

She then viciously demands that he return the twenty rupees she just paid him for cleaning the sewer to compensate for the trouble. When a bewildered and desperate Mangru asks how she can take back the money when his polluted hands have already held the currency notes, the woman sneers in unmasked hypocrisy, retorting that money is Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, and Lakshmi never becomes impure.

Left broken and helpless with no alternative, Mangru drops his hard earned wages onto the ground, and the woman promptly scoops up the cash without the slightest concern for purity, leaving him humiliated and empty handed.

Discussion How's your life going without the placebo effect that religion used to provide? Do you sometimes struggle without it?

This is happening with me. I'm atheist for two years now because I have read and studied my former religion's book and the idea of god and religion.

It has made my life so much easier. No unnecessary or absurd rules. No need for doing mental gymnastics to justify the idea of god or problematic things in the religion.

But, it has negative impact too. Although it has removed the fear of hell, but now the fear of death has came because now I know I have the same fate after death as that of a mosquito. Even, sometimes, I fear taking part in adventure sports because my life just rely on me. One bad decision and death with nothing after, or a lifetime injury which will waste my only life.

Earlier, I used to pray before important stuff like exam etc. or when I or someone else around me is sick. Now, I know there is no one to rely on or keeps your hope on. It is tiring sometimes.

But, still this life is better than living in fear of a tyrant God who will throw you in hell for even small things like showing some skin or worshipping those gods with the most absurd stories.

Edit:I used to get these thoughts (which I mentioned in para 3 and 4) last month when I was suffering with Anxiety and Catastrophizing Thought problem. All because my mental health was wreak, suddenly I was missing the placebo because my brain was not giving me optimistic thoughts.

But, yeah, I've recoved and it is under control (thanks to the treatment). So, now I don't have these kinds of thoughts and I was wondering if others have these too sometimes.

Do you experience something similar?

Discussion Atheist from this sub, does religion matter to you while dating long term?

I'm being atheist since I turned 17,and left islam.... Though I had my ups and downs but finally gave up completely when I turned 21....i tried dating for a while but finding an ex muslim is really tough. And as a woman I can't risk marrying a Muslim man, I have seen how women at my home are treated and even liberal Muslims are fucked up..... I from (UP/ Bihar) tried dating this agnostic muslim but his family believed in caste, so finally we ended things.... Idk if I should try dating guys from other religion obviously the one who are atheist but again I'm scared if the person would eventually give up on us due to religion (happened with me in the past) so, idk if I should do it again.... And finding an ex muslim man is so tough... I feel like giving up.... I wish I was born in hinduism man, at least it would have been easier to find someone..... Gosh, I'm sorry for ranting. But nowadays things sucks so bad.... Also, my parents are kinda forcing for arranged marriage while I'm only 23.....idk what to do....

Hindutva What is the scientific explanation behind “Mata chadhna” or “Devi aana”?

Hey everyone, I'm from Nepal, and I grew up around Hindu and Gurung cultural traditions. There's something I've personally witnessed and heard about from my family that genuinely confuses me, and I'd like to understand it from a scientific perspective.

In Hindu culture, when someone suddenly starts shaking, shouting, behaving unusually, or speaking in an unfamiliar language during a religious ritual, people often say that "Mata chadh gaya hain" or "Devi aayi hain".

When I was in seventh grade, I attended a traditional Gurung funeral ritual called 'Arghum' for my great-grandmother. During the ritual, one of the lamas suddenly started shaking and murmuring in what sounded like an unfamiliar language. People interpreted it as a deity entering his body.

I was on my period at the time, and my mother had warned me not to go near the ritual because of it. When the lama began behaving this way, people started asking who was menstruating and implying that someone had caused it. My mother took me away, and my father scolded me. A few minutes later, the lama returned to his normal state.

Something similar reportedly happened to my mama (mother's brother), who is a very devoted Hanuman follower. When a menstruating girl approached him, he suddenly began behaving as though a deity had entered his body. He even grabbed the girl by the neck while shouting at her to stay away. His family eventually managed to get him to let go, and he returned to normal after a few minutes.

My mother has also told me that she witnessed similar incidents involving my grandfather multiple times. I've seen people at temples behave similarly, too. They suddenly start shaking, shouting, moving unusually, speaking in unfamiliar-sounding speech, and sometimes becoming unconscious before returning to normal.

The part I find most confusing is the language, my mama doesn't know Sanskrit, as far as I know, and yet the sounds he produces are interpreted as Sanskrit or another language during these episodes. How can someone produce speech that sounds like a language they have never learned?

I understand that seizures, dissociation, and trance states can explain some unusual behaviours. However, I find it difficult to understand why similar things happen repeatedly in religious settings and why people seem to recover after a short time. I'm not saying everyone must have a neurological disorder, but I also don't want to jump straight to a supernatural explanation.

Islamism Why are ex muslims so rare?

Post image
203 Upvotes

Like I see a fair share of ex christians or hindus which openly criticize the religion they were brought up in which is nice , but its much rarer to see a person brought up in muslim family doing the same

I know if i search it up or go to those subs there definetly are but still for a religion with 2 bil followers it feels kinda rare online specially considering it has one of more visible inconsistencies and questionable stuff in their books

Discussion Suggest me some books on Atheism

Looking for book recommendations from real people, not algos

I could've Googled this or asked an AI, but I'd rather hear from people who've actually read these books.

I recently read The God Delusion and loved it. I'd like to read more along these lines

- scientific and rational thinking

- critical looks at religious practices and beliefs

- and the history of religion.

Books in English or Hindi are both fine.

What would you recommend, and what did you like about it?
