Help with Atari 800xl
galleryHi everyone! I found an Atari 800xl while helping to tidy up the attic of my girlfriend's parents house.
I tested it and the keyboard isn't working (the buttons on the right work though). I tried to disassemble it to clean it up but I found this kind of tape on the keyboard connector. Looking online I see tape isn't usually there, so I wanted to ask for a second opinion before trying to remove it or anything.
Have you ever seen anything like it? Do you have any suggestion on how to proceed? Thanks in advance :)

Watch my old school building being demolished on my 800XL
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
When I was 14 or 15 years old, we had to do a drawing in art class of the school building. Back then I took that picture and made a little "digitalisation" on my Atari 800XL with that. As a goof I added the opportunity to demolish the building wing by wing by pressing the fire button on the joystick.
30 years later I showed my little nephew that program. At the time he attended the same school. Of course he told his buddies about it in school and his mother got a call from one of the teachers suspecting us of "terrorist activity" lol š Today's world is so crazy...
My old 800XL is still running fine today and all my software from back in the day is securely backed up.

Jaguar mini?
Hey there!
As a lifelong Atari owner-and-lover (ever since my first computer -- Atari 800), I keep track of the Atari product line with ever-increasing interest and happy amazement. The Atari 800 "family" is available in a "mini" variation thanks to the Atari 400 Mini. The upcoming Atari 800XL is more of a "look-and-feel" recreation, which is also nice. What's missing is the Atari Jaguar.
The Jaguar was a failed effort by Atari; yet, over time, it's amassed quite a cult following. So... why not do an "Atari Jaguar Mini"? (Yes, I'm aware that the Jag had a lot of hardware issues that made development challenging, but I'm not sure how much that's relevant for a 'mini' version.)
Thanks in advance --
Go Atari, Go!

E.T. is actually a BANGER
E.T for the Atari 64, is a pinnacle of modern gaming. Yesterday, my grandmama, bought It for me on the Google Play Store, on my Samsung tablet. I love Samsung! They made my tank and the Burj Khalifa! I played it with an acquaintance of mine, named Geoffrey. We both agreed that the mechanics of throwing Cappy were quite smooth, similar to other games in the COD franchise. The graphics were PRISTINE, with no glitches OR errors. Respect to the devs š«”. It was a great use of my pocket money, and I truly canāt believe how much games have evolved since I was a lad. Oh how nostalgic I am for 2016 š„
Truly impeccable, I hope to see more from this futuristic company, may their popularity never waver.

I ported Battlezone to the Atari 2600 and looking for feedback
I ported Battlezone to the 2600. The demo ROM is up on my site and I would like your feedback.
It runs on original hardware. No modern cart extensions.
You can try it here: https://retrocartwiz.com/games/battlezone
I am most interested in how the controls feel and whether the difficulty is right.
Thanks.

Buying from Atari Age
Has anyone here bought from Atari Age? I bought a trio of homebrew Atari 2600 cartridges from them like 3 weeks ago and have gotten no shipping notice, I emailed their customer service twice and got no response, and I tweeted at their account and also got no response.

Plus console controller compatibilities
i want to buy an Atari plus console around Christmas season and since I plan on mostly playing 7800 games, Iāll need a two button controller.
for some reason, the Atari.com website lists cx78+ wired as working with 2600, 2600+, and 7800, excluding 7800+. that doesnāt seem right, can anyone confirm this? I would prefer a wired controller, and Iāve seen a lot of people saying their cx78+ wireless stopped pairing randomly.
on the other hand, it lists the cx40+ wired as only working on 2600/+. So, does the 7800/+ have different plugs or something and thatās why it canāt take these wired controllers? That doesnāt seem to make sense since you still have to plug in the dongles for wireless. Can anyone confirm any of this? If both plus consoles play each otherās games, why wouldnāt all the controllers also be compatible? Jeez.
Edit it seems like the best option for using Genesis controllers is the Seagull 78 from Edladdin, which works on original 7800. One Atariage post says āitās been reportedā (WTF? No source) that itāll work on 7800 plus⦠can anyone confirm this?

ELI5: Emulation based systems
Late to the party here. A lot of people have talked about the new 2600+ and 7800+ being emulation based systems. What does this exactly mean?
Is it that the systems:
- Have an entire library of 2600/7800 games in them and the cartridges basically select the game?
or
- The system loads everything from the cartridge into memory and then plays the game.
Edit: I have an original 2600 JR. I was looking into new joysticks and paddles and the Atari website had a bundle with a console that seemed more economical so I figured I would ask.

I need help with my Atari 2600 PAL 6-switch
I have the Atari (read title) and a perfectly matching old television and it's supposed to work but it doesn't. I really need some help with this! Anyone willing to help me? (Not through reddit, will be very hard haha). I would appreciate it hugely!

800xl!
Well, that was the surprise announcement of the day! I am absolutely fascinated and looking forward to knowing more. Does anyone know if the cartridge slot will be compatible with 2670 800 games, or was the 800 XL a specific size cartridge? I seem to recall that its cartridges were related to the 5200? Also, does anyone know if this thing will actually have a prompt so people can code in basic?

CX-78+ direction issues
Did some digging and couldn't find an answer -
Both of my CX-78+ controllers have an issue with going the direction I want them to go. specifically, when I push a straight direction, as in up, down, left, or right, they tend to want to go diagonally. is this a problem anyone else has had, or is this just a me thing? Both of my controllers do it, but one seems worse than the other.

Atari Is Rebuilding. Its Shareholders Deserve Answers.
Disclosure: I wrote this article for Game Cookies.
Atari has brought together studios including Nightdive, Digital Eclipse and Thunderful. I looked at the financing behind that expansion, using its annual report and the August and September transaction announcements.
A few findings:
- FY2025/26 revenue reached ā¬56.0 million, but the consolidated group, including Thunderful, reported a ā¬4.8 million net loss.
- Septemberās announced debt-to-share conversion puts IRATA, CEO Wade Rosenās holding company, at 48.82% of share capital in the companyās post-transaction table. Converting debt reduces a repayment obligation; it is different from bringing in new cash.
- The annual report says independent board representation fell from 50% to 25% after a director became chief operating officer.
The article separates those disclosures from claims the reporting could not substantiate. Debt relief can support the studios, while new shares reduce an unchanged investorās ownership percentage. The open question is what the expansion delivers and how future financing and oversight are explained.

What would you want to see from Atari to judge whether its rebuilding is becoming a sustainable business?

Fixing Up Old Tech
galleryRecalibrated the joysticks, cleaned the contacts, replaces the rubber carbon contacts on the 5200 controller with newer gold plated contacts
The Trak-ball controller has a new cueball inside, new bearings, new optical discs, and a new contact pad for the Start/Pause/Reset. Been playing quite a few games, and these controllers work great! I liked the look of the original cueball, so I kept it along with the original parts I replaced. Controllers now work like new. :)

I highly advise AGAINST ordering games from Atari's website.
I had pre-ordered the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the Disney Afternoon Collection which should have been shipped out a long time ago but then I had to reach out to customer service which took weeks for them to respond, but when they finally shipped the game out, I received the regular Switch version instead. Buyer beware.
