The Cardinal/Fixed/Mutable is a classification system that divides the 12 zodiac signs into 3 groups. It is a way to better understand the symbolism of the zodiac signs. How cool.
The 3 groups are
Cardinal, the start of a season
Fixed, the middle of a season
Mutable, the end of a season
Cardinal - start of season
(Aries🔥, Cancer💧, Libra🌬️, Capricorn🍃)
Tackling challenges and starting projects
This marks the start of seasons. It is a busy time of activity and initiative. The beginning of the season is when people need to be prepared to tackle the challenges this new season will bring.
Fixed - middle of season
(Leo🔥, Scorpio💧, Aquarius🌬️, Taurus🍃)
Building and maintenance
A fixed, sturdy, unmoving place to be in.
Crops are in the process of growing/preparations have been made for the season, this is a period of maintenance, and it will be awhile before anything changes.
Mutable - end of season
(Sagittarius🔥, Pisces💧, Gemini🌬️, Virgo🍃)
Quick-changing times, adaptability, mutability
Crops are harvested/preparations wrapped up, so it’s a time of plenty but still a time of change. People need to be adaptable, tie up any loose ends of the last season and begin to make changes and get ready to prepare for the new one.
Aries - start of spring
New beginnings
the ice of winter is melting away, plants are quickly starting to grow again, animals become active again. This is a time of initiative, buzz, action, and the beginning stages of things.
Taurus - middle of spring
Abundance
Everything is flourishing. This is a time of abundance. All the plants and animals are flourishing and no one wants that to change
Gemini - end of spring
Adaptability
Change is here and it’s time to be adaptable. Things are heating up and we’ve got to be quick on our toes to adapt to the upcoming changes in crops and climate that summer will bring.
Cancer - start of summer
Protection and Nurturing
People need to start preparing and adapting to summer. Sources of shade, protection from the heat, and water need to be secured. Spring crops have been harvested at this point and the new summer crops need to start being nurtured.
Leo - middle of the summer
Responsibility and Celebration
All this heat will tire people out if they work too hard through it. What people need now is to manage their responsibilities without overheating too much and finding ways to vent and play. The sun is all the way up in the sky and it’s a great time to find fun ways to enjoy the season.
Virgo - end of summer
Sorting and organizing
Summer crops need to be sorted and organized. Autumn is the final season when crops can grow abundantly before winter and so precise preparations for the upcoming season is totally vital during this time. Everything needs to be well-sorted and well-prepared because if things don’t go well next season winter will be too harsh.
Libra - start of autumn
Social decorum
Things are starting to cool down, any tempers that flared up over the summer need to be cooled. Like I mentioned, this is the last season before winter and so any lingering social imbalances need to be dealt with so everyone can be on the same team.
Scorpio - middle of autumn
Introspection and Planning
With crops planted and growing and things cooling down, there is a stillness that allows for introspection. It’s the perfect time to make plans for the upcoming winter.
Sagittarius- end of autumn
Movement
With autumn’s harvest there is one final period of abundance and joy before the stark season of winter. It’s a time for optimism and jubilance because if everyone did the proper preparation and groundwork during autumn, it means there’s nothing else to do but to take the leap and go down that path they laid.
Capricorn - start of winter
Testing the Foundation that’s been Laid
Here’s where everyone’s plans and preparations start to get tested. The snow and ice is here and if homes aren’t secure, the cold will seep in. If food wasn’t packed away, empty stomaches will be the punishment for it.
Aquarius - middle of winter
Social Structuring
There’s nothing left to do but huddle up with eachother to wait out the cold, tell some stories and connect with eachother. Now is the perfect time to communicate, examine the state of the group, and make possible changes for better harmony and cooperation if needed. Now is the time for social cohesion and structuring that will set the stage for the group next year. We don't want members of our group left out in the cold.
Pisces - end of winter
Contending with the Abstract
A whole new year, a whole new cycle, and a whole new beginning awaits on the horizon. Depending on how things are going, that can fill someone with hope. But if things are going roughly, people might need to turn to spirituality or some forms of escapism to cope.
