(Genderfluid) How do you convince yourself you’re not pretending?

• Upvotes

So, it’s been around five days since I “came out” as genderfluid. I put that in quotation marks because it wasn’t really intentional or expected. It kind of came out of nowhere. It was really late and I was having a bit of a gender crisis, so I texted my boyfriend. He offered to call me a few different prounouns, and I gave a hesitant yes. Turns out I feel about as fine with she/her as I do he/him, although the one I prefer comes in waves. It was rather melodramatic, really, I came back to school Monday and not much changed. At least on the outside.

I’ve always been a bit uncomfortable with my own confused identity, so this has kind of been rocking my world. I have ADHD, and this has given me a much more peaceful feeling inside than usual. But at the same time, it’s extremely stressful to have to look inward and sift through my confused self to find what gender I am in the moment. And the easy solution to this would be just use they/them, but I don’t feel like a they/them, and never have.

To help myself with this new identity, I carry a hoodie around and swap between them - when I feel like a man I wear it, when I don’t I take it off. But I don’t exactly switch consistently or in long intervals, so that becomes annoying. And, on top of that, it feels like I’m pretending to be trans because the rest of my friend group is some kind of queer.

Obviously, my boyfriend is super nice and affirming and lovely to me, as he’s a trans man and can very much relate to how I feel. But he can only do so much before my own self doubt creeps in.

What do I even do about this?

Is Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs a transphobic depiction?

• Upvotes

I know that in the movie, they go out of their way to say that they aren't actually Trans, but that feels like that potentially makes things worse, so I wanted to ask someone with more expertise than me.

Comparing yourself

I know the whe thing of not comparing yourself to others because itll just make you more dysphoric.

Im pretty good at that besides me seeing some women and going "damn I want to look/sound like that" but so far it's been fin. With one exception...

I love kirara from jjk so much. I want to look and sound literally just like her. She is my comfort character and god I cant wait to start hrt and voice training bc i swear to god I want to be just like her.

I spend hours of my day just looking at art of her

this isnt even a question. I guess the only one would be how do I voice train without sounding like im flirting or like quiet and breathy

Questions from a father about gender reaffirming care

My son is trans. He came out around age 11. I don't have a problem with that, in fact I was the one who suggested he transition. He told me that he didn't feel like a girl, and I told him to just try out living as a boy and if it didn't feel right he could just go back to how he was. He picked a new name, and that was that.

The thing I'm wondering about is that I have advised my son not to seek gender reaffirming care. To be clear, he has the final say in this. If he was like "I can't take this, I need gender reaffirming care" we would do it. But I'm terrified for the current political situation in the United States where we live. The Trump administration has already requested the medical records of every child in my state receiver gender reaffirming care. The state refused to provide it, but with the current supreme court I have no faith that if push came to shove the records could be kept from them. We live in one of the most progressive cities in a very progressive state, so while we haven't officially changed his name most of the institutions he has to deal with use his new name and not his dead name. I'm less worried about that, but procedures that produce medical records create a paper trail that I'm afraid will be harder to hide.

His gender identity seems to be more fluid (he prefers he/they pronouns) so thus far it hasn't been a big issue. That said I know that there are things he would like to change about his body. He hates his breasts, women in my family tend to have very large breasts and boy did he ever get that gene. When he first came out that wasn't even an option because he was so young, but he is 17 now so it's something that could happen. Same deal with hormone therapy, at the start of this when Biden was in office we did go to a gender clinic to talk about getting gender reaffirming care. He is scared of needles so he didn't want to do injections, and none of us were confident that he could use the gel options responsibly and regularly - so he decided that he wouldn't seek hormone therapy.

My son is autistic and has ADHD. The autism isn't severe, but at 17 he probably has the maturity of a 14 year old. He usually can't do more than 4 hours out in the world before he needs to hide in his room to recharge his social battery. He is highly dependent on me, if the fascists in charge of our country right now took him away he would not survive. I want him to be his authentic self - but I'm so scared that he will be hurt.

So my question - am I doing the right thing? I know that visibility is important, and that being out supports the community as a whole, but I just don't think he is strong enough to face that on his own without me to support him - and there has been plenty of talk on the right of taking trans kids away from their supportive parents. What I told my son is that right now we need to do what queer people have done since the beginning - hide. I hate it, but I feel like that's the reality we are in right now. He is 17, so in a year he will be making his own decisions - but I feel like he will still look to me for guidance. I just want to get the perspective of the trans community, because I don't know what is right anymore.

I need help getting rid of gender dysphoria without transitioning

I am a teen girl, and I love being a teen girl, but I would give anything to be a boy. I have had gender dysphoria my whole life and feel absolutely awful every time I get reminded of being a girl.
But I am not at a place in my life where I can transition and I am not really interested in it. I have a very religious family and a promising future in ballet. I do not want to transition, but I need to get rid of my gender dysphoria ASAP. I really can’t continue like this and I don’t know what to do

How do I know if I'm actually trans?

For context, I'm a 16m and have been questioning my gender for a few months now, and having some doubts about if I'm actually trans or just going through a phase.

Around 2 years ago I occasionally dressed up in female clothes when I get bored, but didn't think of wanting to be a girl back then. It's only recently that the thoughts crossed my mind, and since so many people knew they were trans or that they wanted to become a different gender when they were very young I'm having doubts about whether I'm actually trans or not. Also, I'm mostly fine being referred to as a male, where most people I've seen online hated that even before they transition. These thoughts also feel like they came out of nowhere. I never played with girly things when I was a kid and only recently wanted to do those kind of things. In fact, I used to dislike girly things when i was younger, so that makes me doubt myself even more.

I don't want to make a big decision like transitioning unless I'm very sure that I'm trans and that it's not just a phase, so I'm making this post for some advice that could help me find out about myself.

Trying to figure myself out.

Okay so........here goes. I am a 35 year old cis man (hope I did that right) I grew up and am living in nw rural Ohio and have never really had much interaction with the LGBTQ community apart from my cousin who is gay. I am currently going through a separation from the mother of my children after 14 years together. And I guess I am just womdering if I am attracted to trans women or if I am fetishizing them. I really hope I am not because I don't wish to objectify anyone I just want help figuring it out. I have seen many trans women online and here on reddit that I find attractive. But I don't know if it is real, or if it is me enjoying the idea. A lot of them enjoyed the same things as I do. Anime, manga, scifi, horror. Again I hope I do not offend anyone I am just trying to learn about this and hopefully myself.

Finding clothes that fit tips?

Hello,

Me and my girlfriend (she is trans), are moving in together soon :)

Super happy for us.

I'm making her a little "welcome home/care package" as she has had to drive multiple states for her next work assignment and for where we will be living. I had the idea to finish her package with cute cozy socks...

Now, the problem...

She is a shoe size 11 women, and today I went to two different stores, and they had no socks in her size...

Is this just a problem with women's clothing industry? I saw that size 11 is just like...a size large, but all of these socks said made for shoe size 4-10. Like wtf. Lol. I went to the plus size women's section and they don't even have socks there.

My girl doesn't want to wear anything for men, and rightfully so, so what gives on these sizes?

Anyhow, I had to hunt some down online and it was still a hassle but I think I found some good ones her size.

But I am just wondering in the future, do any of the dolls have advice on how to find clothing that fits? It would help for when I go and get her a gift. Thank you so much <3

How to start HRT

I'm trying to get on HRT and I'm just not really sure where to start. I would prefer going through doctors because my parents would be helping pay for it and I don't think they'd be cool with DIY, however my biggest fear going that route is that I'd end up getting prescribed a super low dose that does nothing and only causes more problems. Is there any solution here?

Is there any physical and dietary things I can do when I have restricted access to HRT?

Heya, I was wondering if I could get some advice on ways to reduce my natural testosterone when I live in a state that restricts HRT access to minors (Fyi, I am 16).
As of now I identify as a Demi-boy (AMAB under He/They pronouns and questioning about MtF) and I kind of wanted a way of exercise or diet that could help with me building a more fem build over time before I have unrestricted access to HRT in order to maybe do a transition when I am older.
Any help I could get would be nice. Thanks!!!

(Trans femme) Dance belt or gaff?

Images of gaffs suggest they work better at hiding genitalia shape than dance belts. But I am wary of gaffs because they seem so uncomfortable. Has anyone here tried both?

Trans in Spain?

I would like to plan a bicycle tour in Spain. I'm MtF, and while I've traveled quite comfortably in the U.S. -- even in places like Florida and Idaho -- I'm not sure if I can do so as easily in Spain. Can anyone provide some intel on attitudes toward transgender people there? I'm looking at Málaga, Seville, Cádiz, and Gibraltar (not technically Spain, I know). Thanks in advance!

Does HRT/MTF make you infertile permanently without reversal?

For the longest time, I known for sure I am transgender however I have remain presenting pretty much like a heterosexual male. Even though I have been sure since I was at least 15.

I’m reaching my 26 birthday soon, and the urge just keeps growing, I have for various reasons never actually taken a step towards that transition and with it maybe even the possibility to have a more “easy” transition.

My Major concern is fertility and because I really do want biological kids (maybe that topic is selfish and sensitive for some). But over the year I have had confusing information regarding fertility. Will I become permanently infertile even if I stop HRT say in a future to return to say a “normal” range.

I been told assume you will be infertile, and due to financial difficulties and the cost of sperm freezing banks I have postponed any plans for transition.

And going in without any sperm freezing, I am afraid that one day I will reach a point where I’m functionally incapable of procreating. And I seen other points where it says that stopping treatment maybe return fertility even if aided by surgery. What’s really true regarding this topic?

How to ease getting really over stimulated and angry in the lead up to taking my daily dosages.

Hey everyone, im 26 mtf and seeking advice around how to ease this short tempered rage and overstimulation that seems to creep up around lunchtime everyday at work.

I take prog x3 a day (8pm, 11:30am and then 9~10pm) and I don't know why but lately I've been getting embarrassingly angry because people keep interrupting my break or we get deliveries that I have to drop everything to attend to (when they're supposed to be arriving first thing at the morning but they haven't) which is frustrating, but it's genuinely not the end of the world and I used to be happy to deal with.

But it just feels like it's gotten worse lately, it's like someone could tell me "that there's annoying fly in the room" and my immediate reaction would be to rip someone's head off.

Does anyone have any advice for easing this irritability and rage?? I understand the solution is taking my meds no later than 11:30 and following it up with eating right away, but there's gotta be something to at least ease the symptoms right?

I have no clue what my gender is and I hate it

I have no clue if this is a good place to ask this but idk where a better place to ask would be.

I don’t know what gender I really am I just know that I don’t really feel like the boy my birth certificate would say but I don’t entirely feel like a girl either

Physically, I hate all of my body hair and shave it daily, I’ve been growing my hair out over about a year and a half when it’s been kept short up until then and while I’d still like it to be longer I’m still way happier with it longish, I’m not a massive fan of my voice but I don’t hate and just talking softer than I normally would if I’m not around people tends to be enough for me and I’m rather large around the waist and hate it with all my heart.

Everything beyond physically. I’ve never really been able to relate with the majority of the boys at school and actively hate most of them, but I can’t really relate to the girls either though they are certainly less annoying. The idea of wearing the slightly oversized sweat shirt with the thigh highs and skirt (I call it the winter femboy fit :3) sounds so appealing and half the time when I see a cute dress my first thought will be “god I wish I could pull that off” while knowing full well I can’t. I’ve also been hating my ne and been thinking of a new, Rem is what I’m thinking right now but that may be a mix of recency bias and autism talking (I love the little brat from deadlock).

I’ve been trying to understand what I am since the start of October but it still alludes me and that facts been driving me insane so if anyone has any guidance or ideas as to what I might be that would be greatly appreciated.

Anyway some extra stuff that may or may not be important. This all started because my friend jokingly suggested that I be mew mew from Deltarune chapter 5/undertale. Neither of my parents are bigots and my mom actually seems to be more supportive of trans people than most of the parents of my trans friends yet I am still terrified of bringing this up with them (though I’m slowly warming up to the idea of speaking about this with my mom). I only have one older brother who is more feminine than most men but still a cis man.

interactions with e/prog and Spravato?

I'm starting Spravato soon for severe TRD, and I want to know if there's gonna be any negative effects starting that and HRT at the same time. Has anyone had to deal with both?

how quickly should I expect results for my mental health/emotional state after starting feminizing HRT? Is there anything I should prepare for?

title explains most of it; I've been battling more mental illnesses than I can count for over a year now, most notably treatment resistant depression, which blows, and I want to know how quickly it might help me with some of there things like lowered emotional capacity and severe anhedonia and brain fog, mainly because my T levels are pretty high and I've also tried a lot of different medications and treatments to no avail (as the name might suggest) but I've heard stories of women whose mental health completely turned around after starting estrogen/progesterone, and I want to know how quickly I can expect results for that as I've been dealing this for much too long and I truly can't go on much longer living like this. I'm desperate. I'm scared my SI is gonna get worse and make things more dire for me, and I don't want to end up in a psych ward or worse, because I have a life I want to get back to and I'm terrified of losing my autonomy (and the ability to SHAVE) if I end up there. I'm currently in outpatient hospitalization, and it hasn't been working for the month or so I've been attending, and I feel like with all of this stuff out of the way (and perchance a better working memory/executive function) it'd actually start to have some effect. But mainly I'm worried about the urgency. I go in for an appointment on the 3rd of November, and hopefully I walk away with an HRT script, so I want to know—is it gonna be soon? Or am I gonna have to keep living like this for another month or two? I can probably take it, but I really don't want to.
