Announcement Wiki editors and maintainers wanted!

Hey folks, r/askseattle and our team over at /r/Seattle are looking for folks to help us build, update, and maintain our wiki and sidebar content. The /r/Seattle wiki was once a boon of information for new visitors and locals alike, but the subreddit has grown and sites/businesses have come and gone. Our mods are busy moderating and the wiki is collecting cobwebs.

I'm reaching out to members of this community specifically as you are most likely to benefit from (or be knowledgeable about) this content space. This community is entirely based around helping visitors and residents alike find answers to questions that frequently get buried / reported / removed for being duplicates in r/seattle due to the size and velocity of other posts.

If you're interested in helping us out, here are some details:

  • The main areas of work are obviously the wikis on this subreddit and r/seattle
  • You'll be working with the mods here and r/seattle to help decide the organization and categorization of wiki pages, and how we add content / posts / etc to them
  • You will not be asked to moderate, so no need for moderation or wiki experience
  • The only requirements are a post history shows activity in either this subreddit or in r/seattle that we can trust with edit access to our wiki

If you're interested, shoot a message to the mods here or the seattle sub - these links have the title all filled out for you - or just send me a message or comment here.

Cheers!

Places to take my 6-month-old Golden Retriever to play while I work?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! I have a 6-month-old Golden Retriever, and I’m looking for places around Seattle where I can take her to play and socialize with other dogs.

Ideally, I’m looking for somewhere I could spend a couple of hours, get some work done on my laptop, and have a safe, closed/fenced space where she can play with other dogs.

I’m not sure if a place like this exists, but I’m new to Seattle and would love any recommendations! 😊
Thanks in advance!

moving to seattle

hi all! I’m a 27(F) and thinking about moving to Seattle in May when I graduate with my MSW. I have visited Seattle many times and love it, even during the winters. I don’t mind all the rain and gloom. I know it’s expensive but im from LA so doesn’t really matter to me. However, I am Black so I am a bit worried about the culture and diversity aspect. How is it up there culturally? Are there Black communities? Also what is the job market for my new grad social workers? And pay?

Edit: I would already have a job! And I do NOT mind gloom for months on end. I have summer seasonal depression so im quite the opposite of many.

Is this what I should expect for the next 7 months?

I just moved to Seattle two weeks ago, is today’s weather the daily normal everyone talks about? Or does it get darker and more rainy?

Vets that make house calls?

• Upvotes

Anyone have any recommendations for vets that will come to your home to treat pets (update vaccines, general exam, etc)? We have two cats who get anxious going to the vet and a dog who may as well get treated at home if her roommates are. Any suggestions appreciated!

Recommendation Best/largest selection of larger eyeglass frames in the area

Which optometrist shops in King County have a large selection of larger frame sizes on display? I've tried a few over the years and they all have maybe 1 or 2 frames, at most, that are large enough for my big head/face.

Late Night Run Recommendations

Does anyone know of any well-lit running paths or tracks around the Seattle or greater area. By the time I get off my shifts at the hospital (esp swings), it’s already dark out. Looking for somewhere to get a 5–8 mile runs in, preferably on a paved path or even a track. Don’t mind driving a bit!

No-Cost Weekly Activities

• Upvotes

I (28F) am looking for no-cost activities that will get me out of the house during the week. I enjoy reading, yoga, pilates, nature, spirituality (most closely aligned to Taoism) and am available Tuesday through Friday from 9am-4pm. Something like a book club that meets more than once a month, volunteering, meditation groups, etc. I am relatively shy so walking or running groups where chit chat is expected would likely be too intimidating for me to commit to. I’m hoping for something weekly or bi-weekly.

TYIA :)

Me and my husband unexpectedly both ended up with tomorrow off work! Our kid will still go to daycare so we can have a day date! We moved to the area a few months ago and havent had a chance to explore town toddler free!! Looking for any good ideas Tacoma to Everett to North Bend. Everything we came up with right away were things we didn't get around to this summer that may be less fun now that the weather has turned.

North Seattle Cheap Food

Hi everyone.

I’ve lived in North Seattle my whole life. I’ve never seen food priced this high before. I feel like I’m always at a fast food place because real food is so expensive.

Dining in somewhere and getting a basic burger or pasta dish is $30-$40 including tip if you’re not getting a drink. Getting breakfast can cost $20… The breakfast entrée is always $8-$15 and the drink is minimum $6 (for a basic latte or americano).

I understand that food costs for businesses has increased because of the economy. Sadly me and a lot of people don’t have an income that also increases with inflation.

On days when you really don’t want to cook at home and enjoy a nice simple breakfast, like a burrito, a bagel, a small breakfast sandwich and a coffee, where do you like to go?

For me getting a nice small pick me up in the mornings does a lot but it costs me too much. I love redbull Italian sodas and I always go to Kelly Cannoli in lake city and it’s 6.62 after tax. Compared to Bigfoot Java at 7.80 and mercurys for 10.something it’s worth it for me because red bulls are basically $4 now.

Question Timeleft in Seattle. Anyone go to these and what was your experience?

Had only one friend go to a few of these and she’s in later 40s. She said met some cool people but the connections were very short so she stopped. Curious what were other people’s experience and which location should I go to?

Recommendation Affordable ADHD eval & treatment?

Hello! Currently I do not have healthcare and will not until January 1st. However I’m getting to the point where my ADHD is becoming extremely unmanageable and negatively impacting my life and health every single day.

I am willing to pay out of pocket but I am shopping around for the most affordable options because I’d prefer not to overspend. Does anyone have any recommendations? I am completely desperate right now.

Thank you!

Moving to Seattle to work in First Hill

Husband and I are in our 50's and we're moving with our 2 small dogs to Seattle on Jan 4. We'll work at the hospitals around First Hill and plan to rent an apt or condo for a year. Looking for a neighborhood feel and Our research indicates Capitol Hill has it (walkability, restaurants, etc) more so than the First Hill area. We have found a few apartments like Infinity in the Capitol Hill that look appropriate. Wondered if anyone had any suggestions on which complexes in Capitol Hill would be a good fit for us.

Question Need a group for halloween!

Hello! I'm 18 years old and not really sure how to use Reddit as I don't come here often but I've been pretty desperate. I don't really have anyone or a group to hang out with on Halloween (since I've been a shut-in for awhile) and was wondering where all the solo people will be going on Halloween or if there was a group I could tag along with!

I was thinking of going to the Georgetown Morgue by myself but thought it'll be too depressing without a group. It'll also just be more nice to have friends around the area as most of my friends are online

Question Any 18+ Halloween events/parties for the 31st?

I’m 21 my boyfriend is 20 this is his first Halloween in Seattle since he moved from the country side so we’re trying to find something fun to do but everything is 21+. I understand it but yeah I’ve been searching myself and I’m probably blind but I can’t find anything other than boo fest or the Dave and busters rave which is on the 30th. Just trying to find something to do that goes late into the night (8pm and onwards) . We’re both goth / alternative so anything in that realm is a plus but open to anything!

Also edit to add context I’m socially awkward which doesn’t help so I don’t have any local friends to hang out with which is why I’m asking Reddit and also if anyone’s interested in hanging out with us we would love to meet people!

Best Transportation From SeaTac Airport to Capitol Hill Area?

Recs for best butter chicken in Bellevue/Seattle

My husband’s birthday is coming up and he is a butter chicken connoisseur. I am planning to take him for a nice meal to an Indian restaurant which has authentic (or as close to it) butter chicken and garlic naan.
Trying to avoid Naan n Curry, Desi Tadka and Cafe Bollywood as these are regular occurrences in our house.
Any suggestions?

Moving / Visiting Advice on finding a first-year teaching job in Seattle?

My girlfriend and I are graduating in May 2027 and moving to the Seattle/Bellevue area in August for my full-time job.
She's completing her master's in Early Childhood/Childhood Education and expects to receive her NYS teaching certification in spring 2027. She has several years of substitute teaching experience, worked as a Montessori lead teacher, and is currently student teaching third grade.
We're hoping she can secure a full-time elementary teaching position before relocating. She's open to public, private, and Montessori schools.
Has anyone successfully secured their first teaching job while applying from another state? How early were you hired?
We're also wondering whether it's possible to secure a substitute or long-term substitute position several months before moving.
Any firsthand experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated!
