Why do people think it's an outrages opinion to think Prince was a better artist than Michael Jackson?
I honestly think Prince was a far better artist, but whenever this debate comes up, the comments make it seem as though he wasn't even in the same league as Michael Jackson, and I just don't understand that. MJ was obviously a phenomenal performer, but Prince was an incredible musician, songwriter and composer who wrote and produced his own material and played multiple instruments. To my ears, he was musically more versatile, and I actually prefer his voice as well. This isn't about taking anything away from Michael Jackson, who was obviously hugely talented, but I don't understand why he's so often treated as the undisputed greatest artist of all time while Prince gets comparatively less credit. Personally, I'd put David Bowie ahead of MJ as an overall artist, too. There are plenty of artists whose musical creativity and body of work I find more impressive. I know it's subjective, but the way people dismiss Prince in these debates genuinely baffles me.

I'm a freelance designer and I made an app to stop listening to music alone all day
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I spend most of my workday alone at my desk, with music on. My friends do too. We kept sending each other links nobody had time to open, so I wanted a way to actually share our discoveries while listening together.
So I built Rebound.
Someone starts with a theme or a track, and the next person answers it with one of their own. A mood, a memory, an unexpected connection. Nobody is the DJ: it's a conversation where the words are songs, with a chat on the side.
You can also host alone and share a public link, a bit like running your own little free radio. People drop in, listen to your picks live and talk with you, and every session stays as a replay.
It's on iPhone, free to try: one Rebound a day, 30 minutes. Everyone plays through their own Apple Music, so you need a subscription; listeners can also join from a browser with their Apple Music account.
To celebrate the launch, I'm giving a free month of Rebound to the first 30 people who drop a musical gem in the comments: the track you'd open a session with. I'll DM you the code.
So, which track would you open with?

Stupid question but should I read the lyrics when listening to an album the first time front to back?
I just got into listening to albums fully (done around 50), and I’m about to listen to Atrocity Exhibition by Danny Brown. I usually just put on airpods and look at the ceiling or smth

Indie folk/psychedelic artist recommendations
Hi. I really struggle when it comes to finding new artists because my music taste is so picky and there are a lot of stuff that just don't click to me. It's really hard to discover new artists cause it's really rare to find something that I'd like. I explored a lot of different genres that I enjoy but l still haven't found that artist whose music clicks for me on that same level 😭 my favorite artist of all time is Alice phoebe Lou and the second I discovered her years ago and started listening to her music I immediately knew this is gonna be my favorite artist of all time and her music made me obsessed with that genre or sound, however ! haven't found many artists who give me that same click.
So I'm looking for artists who have that same style as Alice phoebe Lou or strongboj. What I love about Alice specifically is that dreamy psychedelic sound that she has feels so hazy so smoky with a hint of jazziness. Her music makes u feel so dazed and I love that sounddd.
What attracts me specifically is a female vocalist with that feel that makes u wanna levitate. I KNOW THATS SO VAGUE BUT IDK HOW ELSE TO EXPLAIN THE FEELING 😭I love the soft soothing warbling vocals rather than strong high pitched voices. And I love the organ like sounds in her songs and the fuzzy guitars the loose drums, it's all just so warmmmm. I know this sounds weird but I hope someone that knows what I'm talking about reads this post. I've looked for similar artists everywhere and had no luck finding any I can to this subreddit as a last resort lol. Also I know that it's impossible for one artist to sound like the other I'm not asking for an artist that exactly matches what I described I'm just looking for some recommendations that you would probably think I like based to what I said I'm drawn to. So please if you have anything that you think I'd like or has that same vibe to Alice please do tell😭

How much do you repeat songs?
It appears that the recent music rollouts require hundreds of repetitions of a single. In a music video but also song and different ways through Instagram reels that I am listening to the same 32nd loop of a given song hundreds of times until it's single life publicity rollout stops.
Is this exclusive to the big hitters or is this standard everywhere? As a musician I make a point of not repeating my songs but it appears that the only way I can make a single popular is by repeating it until I'm sick of it. So do musicians get tired of performing their own material? Isn't it tiring to be a one-trick pony?

As Someone Who Grew Up Before Streaming, I Think Something Has Been Lost in How We Experience Music
'm new to Reddit and have been really enjoying myself on here, especially connecting with people of different ages and hearing younger people's perspectives on music. I'm 76 and came of age during the 60s and 70s, long before the internet, and one thing I sometimes feel younger generations are missing out on is the anticipation of new music.
I remember when a new Beatles album was announced, and we'd spend weeks talking about it at school, wondering what it would sound like and eagerly waiting for its release. Getting a new album was a genuine event. We'd sometimes have to beg our parents for money to buy the latest Rolling Stones, Doors or Beatles record, and when we finally got it home, we'd sit down and listen to the whole thing. That feeling of finally getting your hands on an album you'd been looking forward to for weeks was something special.
These days, I see my grandchildren listening to the latest albums on YouTube or streaming platforms almost as soon as they're released. There's no real waiting around, no mystery, and no need to save up your money to buy the record. I sometimes feel that something has been lost in the experience. The anticipation was part of the enjoyment, and I wonder whether having virtually unlimited access to music makes it easier to take it for granted.
I'm not saying music was better back then or that younger generations don't appreciate it. The internet is an incredible invention, and I'm enjoying learning how to use it myself, with a little help from my grandchildren! I can see the advantages of having so much music available at your fingertips.
I just sometimes feel sorry that younger listeners might never experience that particular excitement in quite the same way. Maybe I'm looking back through rose-tinted glasses, but I'd genuinely like to hear what you younger folks think.
