question Endless dental treatments - f16

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi! f16 - i vape/smoke once a month and drink maybe once every 6 months

I got braces when I was about 12-13, i had four teeth extracted (first premolars) for that as they needed to pull my front teeth back. I don't know why but the treatment lasted for four years and zero progress was made except for aligning 1-2 misaligned teeth. My teeth were never pulled back. I have since stopped going to this dentist.

I had severe issues with food during this period, i forcefully got my braces off last year due to severe ache in one of my molars. I had two root canals done after that (first molars lower jaw). And a bunch of fillings for MANY cavities. My parents have horrible teeth issues too so im assuming that I probably got that gene passed down too to have developed so many cavities + loss of enamel during the braces.

While getting my teeth fixed in order to get invisiligns/braces (not sure which one would be better considering the condition of my teeth + complex case) again to complete my treatment, i had a gut feeling about one of my wisdoms being impacted (as did my brother), so after consultations i found that I was right. My doctor's have said that I can keep it for another year but i'll ofc need to get the impacted wisdom out. I also had an opperculectomy via laser done on my other wisdom tooth due to severe pain due to the gum flap recently. (Which is currently healing real nice). During my last dentist visit (two days ago for opperculectomy follow up), I was told that I'll need another root canal on my upper molar.

My dentists have been real kind to me ever since I switched to my new one. I'm obviously somewhat traumatized from all of the procedures and hearing that I'll need another root canal left me feeling defeated. I've been trying to make peace with the fact that I'll probably need to go to the dentist regularly for the rest of my life if not for procedures then just to make sure everything is fine. I miss my teeth pre braces (they weren't perfect either as I had several cavities back then too) but they felt better than having most of my teeth be fillings or crowns

Anyways, considering all of this, would traditional braces be better or invisiligns? My dentist has told me that I'll need braces for 2-3 months after invisiglin but I think that's way better than having them for 18 months and risking further damage

question Wisdom tooth removal hole

Post image
• Upvotes

Hello!

8 days ago I had a diagonal wisdom tooth removed with my upper two, and the lower one was against my tooth beside it. It turned out it was also in the bone too.

Should I be worried about a lot of my tooth showing there with the hole while it heals? I dont want anything like decay or being unable to clean in there to damage my molar. 🫠 The hole is bigger and deeper than it looks, just it was hard to get a photo

I went to my dental surgeon on Monday and was given a syringe to flush it, and that i also still have numbness on my lip and chin. Im 32 aswell, and already had my other lower wisdom removed last year and it healed fine, but not with a hole like this against the tooth

Its also driving me insane that I cant use my electric toothbrush at the moment. I feel so gross 😅

question TMJ, erupted wisdoms, open bite front and side, is there hope?

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

Super vulnerable post. Please don’t judge the state of my skin/teeth/face. (28, F) Just came out the other side of years long abusive relationship/severe health issues and finally affording to fix my teeth now. Is there hope?

My bite is completely misaligned, extreme tmj, I have to push my jaw quite far back and to the right to get any back teeth contact. If my teeth sit correctly I have open bite and only my front canines (top and bottom) touch each other preventing me from closing teeth any further.

Also diagnosed with tongue tie. Getting all four wisdoms out soon (really dreading) and just so scared of more years of pain fixing my teeth and jaw. Any advice, help, direction would be so helpful.

Last two pics before x ray are 1: how my bite has recessed due to compensating for back teeth contact. 2: my bite when my jaw is in the correct un-recessed position

P.S have seen a myofunctional therapist and there was talk of maybe needing to expand my upper with myobrace and aligners instead of braces.

question Impacted horizontal lower right wisdom tooth, thin bone near the nerve: is extraction possible? Surgeon said monitor or coronectomy...

Thumbnail

My oral surgeon reviewed my CBCT: the tooth is fully impacted and almost horizontal, the bone on this side is much thinner than on the left, and the roots are close to the inferior alveolar nerve and the lower border of the mandible (not touching the nerve). He warned that a full extraction could risk a mandibular fracture and recommended monitoring for 3-4 months, with coronectomy as a possible option.

  1. Is a full extraction realistic here, or would you lean toward coronectomy?
  2. Any experience with coronectomy on a nearly horizontal tooth like this?
  3. If the right side is treated, will my mouth opening go back to normal, like on the left?

so I was chewing gum and my tooth literally fell out my mouth. I did know I had an issue with this tooth because my nerve hurts when I bite too hard on something but I never thought this would happen. You can clearly see that the first picture shows my tooth empty. I don’t have any insurance but idk what to do. any advice is helpful.

question Do my cavities need a filling right now, or should it be monitored?

Thumbnail

Hello! I just came back from my dentist after noticing some black spots on my molars, and she said she did spot some early carries but they do not need a filling yet, as that will take away enamel structure. Is that correct or should I get a second opinion?

question How do I repair Gum tissue?

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

IM 16M no history of anything bad.

I want an opinion on my gum tissue. I recall having a lot more as does everyone in my family, but ever since my last dental cleaning 3 months ago, i've been getting pains progressively getting worse. There were no pains for the first month then they got sporadic and now they are daily. Pains include a stinging feeling at my top two teeth and aches basically everywhere. I only have two cavities at the very back tooth. I've researched it and gum tissue prevents all the symptoms ive listed.

The first 5 images were taken 2 weeks ago.

This is the first time i posted anything online i went to a dentist afterwards to examine and she said "in this condition i would send you home because there is nothing wrong with you i cannot help you".

My camera quality has proven to be pretty bad but around the first visible part of the tooth or the connection with the gum, on practically every tooth now there are weird looking lines. Especially the top two(biggest ones).

And i don't think it is a coincidence all. I kid you not all my teeth started to ache at around the same time. Please tell me what i can do i already apply HY+AL GEL everyday and use mouthwash to clear the bacteria. I've noticed food gets stuck a lot more easily underneath my gums.

To conclude I'm most worried about the thickness of my gums and gum tissue and the seemingly absence of the latter. I know some people naturally don't have gums where i have drawn but i swear on my honour i did. Ive checked with my parents and Siblings, they have the same gum tissue i speak of

Please help

question Dissappearing enamel

• Upvotes

Hi, i was born without enamel on some teeth and i struggled with cavities mainly when i was younger. (Mainly because all teeth without enamel has been fixed one or more times so theres not a whole lot of tooth left although the places that is left is starting to form cavities.)

Now im told the rest of my teeth shows signs of acid damage? (Might be translated wrong) on the enamel.

I was told apples, pears, tomatoes, soda, wine energy drinks and brushing right after eating something acidic and so on are the cause. But i dont brush after eating (ever) i dont eat apples or pears. I dont eat candy.

The only thing i do is drink wine Maybe twice a month and drink 0-1 Pepsi max cans a week and sometimes theres a little tomato in the salad. Im only 24. Even if i never drink soda or eat another tomato how realistic is it that i wont loose all my teeth and need dentures at the age of 35?

Is my enamel really that sensitive that thats all it takes for it to be destroyed?

question Crowns and veneers color?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone, I made a mistake when choosing the shade for my veneers and crowns. I went with B1 on my dentist’s recommendation, but now, 3 months later, I realize it's just not the right shade for me. I'd like to darken or warm them up a bit. Is that doable, and is there any way the dentist could tone down the brightness/whiteness? Thanks

Noticed this tiny bump the other day when I thought I felt something back there with my tongue. It’s painless, but definitely noticeable. Not a smoker or a drinker. Any ideas? 26/M

question 8x wisdom tooth extraction, possible high jaw fracture risk concern

*** edit: I am in my early 20s, nerves are close to roots of bottom teeth but not touching, surgeon states this as high risk for damage

Hello folks!

I’m posting here because I just received news from my oral surgeon that I have a risk of jaw fracture & nerve damage from the extraction of my 8 wisdom teeth.

I want to preface this post by saying that I understand the advice from medical professionals who have seen my CBCT & 3d & panoramic scans have the best advice on my specific situation. I am mostly asking for a possible secondary opinion as my options are limited. On top of this, the oral surgeon I’m seeing is the only option for my insurance (State Medicaid) which will be important later, when I discuss the concerns regarding his reviews.

I was seen by my dentist at an urgent consultation to extract my 8 wisdom teeth. They did a panoramic xray, which is the picture posted here. They said if the teeth were bothering me too much, they could take them out right then and there without sedation. I was not comfortable with this, so they were able to recommend me to an oral surgeon who can put me under conscious sedation for the procedure, which I accepted.

Now, I have had a consultation with this surgeon, who informed me that I have a higher risk of jaw fracture and nerve damage. This was shocking information for me because it seemed as though my dentist was comfortable taking the teeth out without stating any of the risks my surgeon informed me of.

My main questions are, 1. Is it common practice to warn patients of higher risks associated with supernumerary teeth? What are the odds of a fracture actually happening? And 2. Should I trust this surgeons advice? Do I have options, aside from my current dentist who I plan on contacting, for a second opinion?

My other worry is that the reviews for this surgeon are pretty mixed. They are either 5 stars or 1 star, no in between. Due to the rules of this subreddit, I won’t post the exact concerns but they are pretty big. I understand he does have a lot of experience, including people who have had 10, 11 & 12 wisdom teeth extracted. I want to trust this, but it is difficult given what anecdotes I have seen. He seemed professional and knowledgeable, although he stressed not moving my jaw during the procedure which can heighten the risk of a fracture (I understand that this is a reasonable request, although it reminded me of the previous reviews of his I’ve seen.)

This is all fresh news and I’m going to gather as much information as possible within the next few weeks from other medical professionals, but I was hoping to get outside perspective as well. It’s just nerve wracking for me, I have never been in surgery or had a procedure done that is this intense, so I don’t want to be in bad hands for my first. Especially since I am aware that I have a pretty rare condition in regards to my teeth.

Per the rules, I do drink once or twice weekly, smoke nicotine socially and marijuana roughly twice weekly to help sleep. I am quitting all substances until my procedure two months from now in preparation.

Thanks in advance, if I need to add more information to my post please let me know! I am happy to provide whatever I can to receive more information from other professionals :)

experience/story Phobie du dentiste

Post image
30 Upvotes

Hi, I'm 24F, non smoker, very very rarely drink, this popped up like maybe a couple of weeks ago and I'm very worried. I get canker sores linked to my cycle but I've not gotten any, only this. I can't tell if it moves, I think a little bit. No growth, no real pain, but feels a little tender in the whole area. I don't know if this is serious enough to push up my 6 month dentist appointment. Any assessment would be helpful.

I got this bump under my tongue around 5 ish days ago. I don’t know what it is I’ve never had somthing like this before. It doesn’t hurt it’s just uncomfortable. It’s not rock solid to the touch it’s like soft. I’ve tried searching ways to get rid of it but I’m just not sure on what it is. I have dentist appointments in a month but I’m worried it won’t clear up by then. I’ve asked the internet about it and they said warm compressions under chin? Idk if that would work. They also said sour candy but I’m afraid it will increase the size. Please help me I hope this goes away naturally but I’m so stressed. I have no idea what would cause this other than stress lmao.

question Wait time for RCT and risk of fracture pls help

• Upvotes

I had a CBCT done a year ago and it showed bone loss around my front bottom teeth. I was getting treatment done for another region of my mouth so this part was not discussed with me. I had another CBCT done three weeks ago and that’s when I was informed of this and told I needed RCT on two front teeth. One of these already has a crown and previous treatment. Obviously I have active infection. No pain. My endodontist says it’s fine to wait a month for treatment but I am nervous of fracture. Is it fine to wait a month?

question How long should I wait to brush my teeth after a meal?

Hello, English is not my first language, so I apologize if there is some mistake.

I've heard you need to wait at least twenty minutes after a meal to let the saliva regulate the pH of your mouth; but then I found myself reading an article that says it only applies when you're eating something acidic. So, I want to ask, what is the definition of acidic? How long should I wait after eating sugar? Or something else?

https://www.colgate.es/oral-health/brushing-and-flossing/is-brushing-teeth-after-eating-good-for-you

Thanks.

other Guter Zahnarzt im Kreis Frankfurt gesucht – Kronen, Implantate & Wurzelbehandlung

• Upvotes

Hallo zusammen,

question Ask dentists / hygenists*

• Upvotes

I haven't had a deep clean for 3 years , I have been pretty diligent with the oral hygiene . I ask the dentist and they say it's not really necessary .

I notice the canines are a different shade to my other teeth though , slightly yellow whereas i guess the others are more off white /white .

Can you get a clean just to focus on specific teeth ?

Or could i get them whitened in anyway to match the others if that makes sense .

Thanks

I wasn't given any antibiotics before my wisdom tooth extraction—I’m having the procedure done tomorrow—but I’ve seen that some people are prescribed antibiotics to take before the surgery. Is this standard practice?

question Molar pain from flossing

I got consistent with flossing for almost a month after my oral prophylaxis. Three days ago, my lower gum near my molar, where my wisdom tooth used to be, started aching. I had to take mefenamic acid, and the pain went away and didn’t come back.

Now, my upper molar is throbbing, almost like a heartbeat, and the pain is so distracting that I can’t focus on anything. I don’t want to take mefenamic acid anymore. Should I stop flossing for now?

Note: my wisdom tooth is already removed 10 months ago up and down.

I'm doing a post here because I cannot go to the dentist and Id like some advice.

I've had this issue for a week and the pictures are in order of how it's progressed. I can eat, swallow and drink completely fine and I only feel pain when I brush over the sores with my tongue or toothbrush. I did have a fever and body aches etc but I'm not sure if that was related to the sores as they're still here but my symptoms are mostly gone. I can't tell if they've been getting more painful and irritated or less.

I do smoke occasionally and rarely drink. Any idea of what it could be or what I should do? Thank you!

question Should I get a crown this morning ?

I (m34) got a root canal last Friday. Everything felt typical, but discomfort kept increasing each day. I didn’t take any ibuprofen because it’s been giving me bad heartburn and acid reflux. Things seem to be increasing instead of calming down. I took naproxen Monday to no effect. Tuesday night was so bad it partially prevented me from falling asleep even with prescribed acetaminophen and codeine. Today I’m scheduled for a crown placement on the same tooth at 9 am.

Does my symptoms mean the root canal wasn’t successful? Should I not get the crown just yet ?
