I built a browser workspace for composing review sheets, with AI concept edits from site photos. Looking for honest feedback from people who do crits

Hi all. I'm not an architect, but a friend who is walked me through how they prepare early design reviews. Plans went in a PDF tool, references in Miro, quick concept visuals in yet another app, and the comments ended up in WhatsApp.

So I built Calque, a shared 2D canvas organised around sheets. The images above are a real session, not mockups:

• Sheets first: drop a plan onto an A3 sheet and arrange photos and references beside it • Edit with AI: select a site photo, describe the change ("light oak joinery, limestone floor, keep the window and camera angle") and attach your material board as a reference. The original stays untouched, and the result goes on the board as a separate image. It shows the price before you generate. • Board agent: I asked it to "lay out an A3 options sheet comparing existing and proposed with notes on materials", and it built image 3, as editable text and images rather than a flat picture • Also: scale and measuring, movable tracing sheets, overlay comparison, comments pinned to the drawing, and ordered PDF export

To be clear about the AI: the outputs are concept visuals for early conversations, not drawings you can build from. The geometry can drift, so treat it like a quick render sketch.

What I'd really like to know:

  1. How do you put together pin-up or crit boards right now?
  2. Would AI concept edits from a site photo help at your stage, or would tutors see them as a shortcut?
  3. What would stop you from using this for a real studio project?

Link: https://calque.si (free during early access, runs in the browser)

Blunt feedback is welcome. I'll be in the comments.

Imposter syndrome

As an architecture student, i feel lost, i have a hate and love relationship with architecture, i like researching and learning more about architecture yet i feel like the reality of this career isn't that interesting, nothing actually garentees that ur gonna be one of those "known architects", the job market is basically controlled by old geezers, and unless ur really lucky, you'll end up stuck in an underpaying job and a toxic and stressful environment.

On the other hand, the reason why i called this post "imposter syndrome" is bec of the gnawing feeling of never being enough, i would say my work isn't that bad, yet when compared with other works of other students on the internet, i feel dumb af, i feel like i am not competent enough. I need to start looking for internships, yet I have this obsession with the idea that i won't be good enough, or that i won't do well enough, or that i will humiliate myself in the professional workplace. I know i shouldn't be this judgmental towards myself, and that i am probably just overthinking stuff, but this doesn't stop that constant fear of being a failure and having other people view me as incompetent or with an average or weak skill level..... it's really tiring.

ARCHITECTURE AAAAAAAH

!PSA! If you have to chuck a bunch of trees and people and other decorative blocks to make your work look good, then your designs probably aren’t good.

Not that you shouldn’t spruce up your drawings! but your buildings should still hold merit while standing bare. Coating an otherwise ugly building in whatever you can find from Pimpmydrawing isn’t an excuse or fix for poor or lazy design.

stressed about the future

I'm in my first year of architecture school and I'm already feeling immese anxiety and stress about the future pathway and career of architecture students, and I'm wondering if anyone is feeling the same way.

I do not have a super clear goal of pursuing an architecture career (i was thinking of adjacent fields), no one in my family is in architecture, i didn't grow up with money, and i do not have a safety net.

I already feel like I don't have a sense of direction for where I wanna head in the future, and it's stressing me out a lot. Of course I want to make a good salary but I feel like pursuing architecture is already closing that door. It just sucks knowing the amount of work us architecture students have to put in, without a promising future in the field.

Is anyone else feeling the same way/have any advice?

Architecture student facing citicism for disliking contemporanean architecture

I am an architecture student 20yo and am now on my seccond year.

While doing my project for design studio( a library with a bookshop, a video room and a cafe) i had some kind of a turning moment when i decided i would stop standing with that contemporanean bulshit and decided that i would try to make my project fit in with the pombaline surroundings of the city (lisbon)

I started using some concepts like symetry, proportions, human scale etc. on my project to make it like something i would appreciate. However, my teacher came to me when seeing my peoject and went something in the lines of:

Why don't you make the video room suspended on the building, oh yeah you don't like contemporanean architecture. Do you come to school on a carriage?

I look confused and a bit offended

"It is a joke we say when people are too attached to the past".

Then she says i have to try to be more abstract and follows by asking me to see some inspirations in architects like siza vieira (a portuguese architect that for some reason our teachers addore like a god)

I dont even know if this subreddit answers thing like this but what is your opinion on the clear contemporanian doctrinization of architecture and what do you think i should do from now on?

I will not quit architecture school because i need the degree to be able to make projects in the future so even if i go to a more traditional school i still need this one first.

Does anyone have any Design & Technology Major work ideas?

Does anyone have any Design & Technology Major work ideas?

I'm a Year 12 Design & Technology student in Australia looking for ideas for my Major Work Project. I'm trying to identify real-world problems, needs, or opportunities that could be solved through a product, system, or environment.

I'm interested in problems that people experience regularly but don't have a great solution for yet. Does anyone have any ideas, frustrations, inconveniences, or unmet needs they've noticed in daily life, school, work, sport, travel, accessibility, sustainability, etc.???????

All suggestions are

appreciated!

I'm torn!! Help me pick between archi and mech e (or something completely different!)

Hello everyone, I am posting to receive some advice on what to major in college (undergraduate). I'm sure there are many posts about this matter, but I wanted to list what I'm troubled about specifically to receive a more personalized answer.

I am torn between architecture and mechanical engineering. Taking into consideration work opportunities, what you do after college, chances of AI being a setback, and especially the pay. And if anyone feels like another major feels more fitting feel free to let me know

My favorite subject is math. This is without a doubt. I like playing around with numbers and manipulating equations. I've done very light physics classes and I don't really mind it. I'm pretty sure I have some spacial thinking which does help a lot in my STEM classes. I really enjoy chemistry as well.

But on the other hand I am an artistic person through and through. I love to work by hand: sculpting, crochet, drawing (and I pretty much have the patience for it)... But my art is usually driven by my love for a piece of media (to DIY merch hehe)... I hesitate to leave this part of me behind for the future, but then again I can keep it as a side thing. Part of me is also scared of the "what if" if i decide to move to engineering (in other words, FOMO)

I'm not sure if I'd enjoy the CAD part of architecture, because I'm more of a hands-on work person... That's a big reason on why I leaned towards mech e, but archi was smth I was (maybe still am) passionate about for a while now.

There is one course at one university that's architectural engineering (more leaning towards design) but eeeh I'm not sure if I'm fond of HVAC systems and stuff

Sorry this got long haha but I'd appreciate any advice!!

Archi supplies

I applied for bachelor or architectural deisgn for next year and im dead set on doing architecture so i decided I would get the main set of tools and or supplies since im getting a shipment from overseas. And as we all know a lot of things are cheaper comparatively. However I would need to order before november as thats the due date for it but I wont be getting an official list from the uni until next year after acceptance, offer letters etc. So can someones just give me the main list of things I would be required to buy. Thanks a lot

Taking a gap term to switch from Computer Engineering to Architecture. How should I use my 3 months?

Hi everyone !!! I’m currently on a gap term and shifting from Computer Engineering to Architecture, which is what I’ve really wanted to do, and I'm honestly so psyched. I have about 3 months of free time and want to use it well before I start.

I don’t have a lot of background in architecture yet, so I’d love advice from people who’ve studied it or work in the field. Some things I’m wondering about:

  • What skills should I start learning now (sketching, drafting, 3D modeling, software like AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, etc.)?
  • What books, YouTube channels, or courses helped you early on?
  • What would you do differently if you were starting over?

Any advice, resources, or things you wish you knew before your first year would help a lot. Thank you!

I can’t decide on my University Course Interior Architecture or Landscape Architecture??

i’m a Alevel student and i want to do either Interior architecture and design at Nottingham trent or Sheffield hallam. i like interior architecture because its more about the structural development inside and not just exterior BUT for my future i don’t really want to become a designer and might go into BIM job role.

WHEREAS, at Sheffield University it offers a ‘Architecture and landscape’ course whcih is architecture included with landscape or a just ‘Landscape Architecture’ which is just more the exterior and less buildings i don’t really know which too choose because i like them all but think about my future i don’t want to become architect i want to get a degree and follow out that path in BIM or Construction/Project management or Urban planner.

PLEASE HELPP
