Sing/karaoke microphone bug?

I’ve searched but have not been able to find a fix.

Just bought a 3rd gen ( my 2nd gen just died , and I didn’t want to wait three weeks for the new one) .

ATV connected to Vizio , Vizio connected to Vizio sound bar via hdmi arc. All software is updated , and phone is 18 pro max.

When I connect the iPhone , any music playing from the music app on TV goes quiet, but the scrubber still moves as if it is playing. I also have no sound coming from iPhone microphone through tv . The microphone power button also does not stay in the on position, and will revert back to off .

I can press the emojis and they work, and I can also connect the camera, so the phone itself is connecting to the tv.

This is my first time trying this out.

Is this a software bug? Or am I missing a random setting?

Disappointed because I have wanted a newer Apple TV for this feature and I can’t even get it “ to just work”.

hdmi arc with a soundbar can mute the apple tv stream when the phone joins. does the mic stay on if you try it on the tv speakers only?

That was my first thought, but I did unplug the sound bar and hdmi connection. I Changed the TV settings to the built-in TV speakers, and I got the same results.

The phone seems to connect to Apple TV, but I get no audio from the music app as it’s playing and the microphone does not work. And the power button for the microphone on the iPhone keeps turning off rather than staying on
