Tapbar v1.8 | Trigger 100+ Android actions from anywhere on your screen [Promotion][Free]
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey everyone! 👋
I've been working on an Android app called Tapbar, and I thought I'd share it here.
Tapbar lets you trigger actions by tapping customizable zones anywhere on your screen. You can open apps, change settings, control device features, and even trigger automations through apps like MacroDroid, Tasker, and Automate.
The latest version, v1.8, now has 100+ actions, a new Immersive UI style, and plenty of other improvements.
I built it to make everyday Android interactions a little easier. It's completely free, open-source, works offline, and has no ads or trackers.
I'd love to hear what you think!

the tasker integration is the part i'd actually use, but i've seen similar zone-based tap apps quietly break after a major android update and never recover. curious how it's held up past android 13.

How does the Tasker/Macrodroid/Automate integration work? Does it launch shortcuts to specific tasks or does it broadcast intents that can be reacted to as the user sees fit?

it uses local notifications as triggers for now. Tapbar sends a notification when a gesture happens, and your automation app detects it and runs whatever task you configure. so you're free to decide what happens next!
This notification is silent and automatically clears.

Notifications seems an odd way to do it, especially given that google sometimes changes the way notifications are handled. Notifications seem to be a last ditch automation approach when an app doesn't offer true integration. Is there a particular reason you decided to use notifications over something like broadcast intents?

that's a fair point. i went with notifications as a simple way to get the integration working, but broadcast intents sound like a cleaner approach without relying on notifications. i'll look into how to implement them properly..

Fantastic work, my friend! This app is being very useful for me because I like to keep my home screen clean, and opening apps with gestures is proving very helpful.

thanks bro! keeping the home screen clean while still having quick access to apps is such a nice use for gestures 😄
