THoughts after 133.5 Hours Played
I do fear for the longevity of Aion the same way I did with Lost Ark and many other similar games... they start out fun cos there's a lot to do... but after a few weeks the cracks start to show, the endgame appears as a wall more than an avenue for exciting content...
- The crafting is arduous
- 200 solo dungeons and all rather devoid of interest
- Team dungeons are... rather simplistic
- Chasing materials that don't go very far
- Losing all your crafting but notr given a choice to ghamble on a higher rarity item
- Macro system one button mashing I think is a terrible idea and game mechanic - I really do hate the macro system
- So many systems, too many really, all these Korean gamnes do love their endless currencies and junk items to make you think you're getting anything
I do worry that this game is just a fun for a few weeks then hit a wall and a desert of no interesting content left to do...
When I listen to the Youtubers tell you how to play, not to loot cubes, not to do this or that until perfect circumstances... they are encouraging people to play it like a job, which is just not fun to me.
The flight syhstem is truly a machiavellian abuse system, having to constantly stop flying to recharge is the worst mechanic I think I've ever experience in an game, it simply should not exist.
The pet system of grind is insane.
The drop rates on basic materials is insane.
I"ve got 133.5 hours played, and I think I'm at a place where I don't like where this is going... but it was fun for awhile.

I’m going to enjoy this game for a long time. But that’s me. The pop will go down for sure, but worldwide it’s got legs so my hope is that even if in the west they have to drop to one or two servers we will still get content because it’s popular elsewhere.
Games like this I get longevity out of because I don’t rush and I play like, so many alts. I’ll probably end up with 6 characters and idgaf if I’m 1600 or 2500, I enjoy playing. As long as they keep server pop high enough to find groups, and we get new content every so often, I’m here for a long time.
The fact that we all bitched about bots and in one week they pushed an update that all but disappeared that problem has me hopeful that they’ll clamor to keep this audience. The macro thing isn’t going anywhere though. Even wow headed that way with OBR. Personally I like being able to just focus on mechanics and actually watch without having to also play a piano, but I totally get that it’s not for everyone and should be more optional. Not that I can’t play the piano, I enjoyed FF as well and those rotations are bonkers. But I’d rather use my brain optimizing a macro and then watch it work. I didn’t know how much id like it until this game showed me.

u/KalenTheDon 10d ago
Disappeared the problem ? I just seen a
Post right before this with 500 comments and upvotes about how the game is invested with bots 🤣2
u/millface1 7d ago
Did you? Did you seen it??
Did you look at the date of the post? Did you seen the date? Was you even looking? Where was you seeing this investation in game?
You sound like an idiot.
2
u/PhoneOwn 10d ago
Lmao bro they did absolutely nothing. They banned like 500 accounts the booting is still insane.
I happy you like the game but for most actual mmorpg players this shit is just a glorified arp g with shit rendering and horrible PvP. The exact opposite of what aion is.
Shit I’ll even go out on a limb and say tnl is objectively better gameplay wise and honestly would have worked so much better as faction v faction
3
u/KaleidoDeer 10d ago
People from several different servers have noticed a reduction in botting including me. It's happening and not just 500 accounts.
2
u/millface1 8d ago
Tuesday I couldn’t harvest because there were so many, Wednesday I could and only saw a couple. Your reply to my post with absolutely made up numbers does not trump my fucking eyes my dude.
2
u/millface1 7d ago
We must have different anecdotal experiences then because Tuesday I could not find a single resource node because of how rampant the botting was and since then I've had zero issues gathering resources, they're everywhere. I'm not saying that's the same on your server, but I have my doubts that it's that different. This reddit is full of people who just say things without evidence. It's the same for pretty much every Korean game. Just nonsense hate. It's far more likely that your post is that than it is that I'm seeing almost zero bots now and you're seeing absolutely no change.
And please. As if holding down a macro is somehow significantly less exciting than pushing 1 2 3 4 over and over again. At least this game looks good doing it, because your rendering issues are your problem. Game renders absolutely great for me.
I'll leave it with... it's super weird that you felt the need to comment on someone saying they enjoy something with "well cool but you're wrong, it's bad"
I couldn't give less of a fuck what you think the game is. I'm replying with this so that anyone thinking about playing the game doesn't just believe your bullshit.

Aion 2's revenue has dropped 50% already since launch. Take that for what you will.
Edit: This is in their OWN country of origin by the way.

u/Open-Building6135 10d ago
To be fair it had major backlash because of super predatory systems that got removed in the global version. Could be a bdo situation where global version outperforms kr in a year or two.

u/EvasiveDice 10d ago
it still felt pretty dang predatory to me, running multiple passes on top of a membership right out of the gate is rough.

Really don’t think so. You really think people will be playing this in a year?? Lmao

My man sounds like you dont like grindy games lol

u/PhoneOwn 9d ago
Bro thinks aion 2 is grinding lmao. Bro there’s is a literal cap to how much u can do weekly tf??
1
u/Lionheartv2 6d ago
You fell for the gambling trap. Make grinding acceptable, so you can push it to it's psychological limit and then introduce spending mechanics to relieve you.
1
u/LordYamz 6d ago
Lol Spent zero on the game besides the sub. You can also just save up resources and Kina to just buy the weapon so you dont have to even gamble

u/Siraphine 10d ago
I have 5000+ hours in Warframe and 15,000+ in FFXIV. Grind is my bread and butter. Greed, however, is not.

Best way to play any MMO is not comparing with any other MMO, I played WoW for 6 years, BDO for 5 years, and other randoms MMO.
Every MMO usually had same concept/feature but all of them should had a different experience.
Not saying this game is perfect, but at least is playable enough that I can enjoy once every 2-3 hours a day.
3
u/biggiediggiedoggie 11d ago
This game is at most a month of fun. That's pushing it
5
u/millface1 10d ago
For a lot of people that’s all games, 1-3 months. Thats why mmos are dying. People absolutely RUSH to max GS in every single one and then leave. Give the devs like 3 weeks to address anything.
I get it. Looking back to EQ 2 though, this world wouldn’t play that for 5 hours these days let alone the 5 years my friends and I did. Just a different culture I guess.
3
u/W1shY0uLuck 9d ago
already uninstalled and never looking back, this game is a punishment and bring no joy.

u/EmotionalCaptain7889 11d ago edited 11d ago
If you compare to the release of BDO, Aion 2 is only good at graphic.
If you compare to the release of TL, Aion 2 is only good at graphic.
If you compare to the release of WOW, Aion 2 is only good at graphic.
Ppl don't have girlfriend so they can only goon on Aion, and all their Aion characters look like they’ve had plastic surgery.

u/KaleidoDeer 10d ago
It took PA 12 years to get BDO's progression in a reasonable state. Aion 2's progression and monetization is already better than what BDO was at launch.

u/PhoneOwn 9d ago
ahh yes the cope, I’ve never played bdo but how can you even compare a game that’s been out for like a decade to this? When we know the track record of ncsoft? Give it 3 months after the honey moon phase and as these casuals who are dick riding the game realize what true endgame is. Alt and dungeon sim with horrible PvP

This game is dead in a month
2
u/Willow_Milk 10d ago
I remember when they said the same thing about world of Warcraft (and every mmo)
1
u/PhoneOwn 9d ago
Have you not seen all the kmmos literally dying in the last 5 years? Lost ark tnl, blade and soul? Bruh

u/Willow_Milk 9d ago
I was there. And trust me, many said it, including me. I bought both wow and EQ2. WOW felt like a dumbed down version of an MMORPG with quest markers and their RTS engine.
The death of Warcraft was announced since the first month of release. And honestly, pretty much every mmorpg gets a similar treatment both from outsiders and players who run out of the initial dopamine hit due to burn out.
Also, I feel the meaning of the word “literal” has literally become meaningless.
1
u/KaleidoDeer 10d ago
People absolutely said that about WoW ever since it's release in 2004. Either it's dying or it's dead because nobody knows what dead means anymore.

Agree with everything and i would add the never seen b4 gatekeeping in dungeons, not even lost ark was this bad, if you play assassin, ranger and maybe gladiator, youre going to have trouble getting accepted into dungeons even with more than enough combat power. They dont even look at ur stats, they see ur class and hit decline.
Game overall is a much much worse version of TnL. Only thing thats better in aion2 are cosmetics.

u/Siglord 11d ago
Im in the same boat because you can run fire temple and two transcendence dungeons only so many times before asking yourself whats the point. Journey was fun but endgame is literally 4 dungeons to run in total for god knows how many months and im tired already and so will be all of you at some point.
Dungeon oriented game with almost no dungeons, you get over leveling ones pretty fast then you farm fire temple or den forever? bruh
1
u/LordKamienneSerce 10d ago
I do enjoy it because I havent played an mmi since LA. Unfortunately it is lacking, not many good things other than graphic and character customization. Mobile raids and skill system is the worst part for me. Its just 2 button game. Maybe 3.
1
u/KaleidoDeer 10d ago
Reducing a game down to how many buttons you press is an odd metric. People did this with FF15 too. Fun isn't measured in unique button presses. Assassin is pretty heavily involved though. I have 3 keys for my backstab teleport skills. One for my 2 buffs. Another for my stun skill. Another for 2 non teleport backstab skills. Another for my 3 main dps skill rotation that goes in my macro to hold with my free and mp basic attacks.
thats like 9 keys including lmb+rmb. Condensing any of them removes situational flexibility, slows it down by removing animation cancel advantage, or just spams your macro with errors which will only slow it down.
1
u/LordKamienneSerce 10d ago
Reducing? Hardly. It just doesnt feel.engaging and impactful. Maybe its just that macro.
1
u/KaleidoDeer 9d ago
A lot of the guides online are deliberately built to be lazy macros. Most of the ones I saw for assassin were that way too. Like for example they'd stick the stagger only skill Storm Rampage on it when it's just gonna slow down your rotation with skill checks. And even on stagger you want to spam the skill not rotate it because each hit reduced all skill CD by 1s and the modifier adds 5% HP so it's much better to have it off in its own slot.
Other people add the combat speed and my main dps skill CD reset active buffs in the macro when you should be saving them to be used together for your burst damage window.
Others tell you to add your basic hit attack in your macro when you lose animation cancelling for the sake of hitting one less button.
I'd encourage actually understanding your skills and what skills are worth using (I don't use 2 from my baseline skills) and building your layout yourself based on what is situational and what you can spam all the time.
1
u/LordKamienneSerce 9d ago
I play spiritmaster, that class takes advantage from macro system, it literally 2 columns to spam plus one with buffs. There is hope, after today i learned to play with positioning and swap skills to get much more dps.
1
u/Technical-Event-8222 10d ago
its a korean mmo, what are you expecting? Its not even got a good combat system that a few of them have. Its just so unnecessary fast thats its 1 button macro spam.

im surprised it took you 133 hours. i noticed that after 33.
for me it's a game that can be fun, once a week, but nothing that is interesting to play everyday.
1
u/Borbbb 10d ago
What´s wrong with you dud. U dont like what youtubers say? Then dont listen.
Also, not looting cubes? Why not? You always loot them.
Whats bad with pet grind? It´s not a problem. Just something to do if you have nothing to do. You want everything in the game to be over an in hour? Brother?
You could prolly grind them all decently quickly, and you complain about that? Wtf. It´s not meant to be done on your first day.
Flight system? Just do the jump flight dive trick and that´s it. It could be nicer, but it is what it is.
Team dungeons are kinda fun - u can play melee class as that´s more engaging.
Macro mashing? On assassin, i use 6-7 buttons + macro and melee.
Really sounds like u dont like mmorpg games.
Crafting can´t fail once u get a leg weapon. if u dont want to gamble for it, just do dungeons and buy it.
1
u/KaleidoDeer 10d ago
Yeah whoever said ignore cube is dumb. Tune your sound settings to make them easier to hear and you're good. we'll need them for pet genus. I also use assassin and use 9 keys. Flight system we have potions you can craft and improve duration by collecting wings which is what you want to aim for lol
1
u/Lunarvolo 10d ago
if something is entertaining for 133 hours, something is being done right. In terms of past that, yeah. Do appreciate things for being fun though
133 hours is 50+ movies/roller skating/mini-golfing, $600-$1200.
133 hours of lego kits is probably a lot

u/Awkward-Club-9636 4h ago
Quit after I got killed by a whale in the abyss. It became obvious the free to play was a facade and you’d need to put thousands of hours to be on equal grounds with those whales. By the time you catch up it would already be irrelevant in the new patch. It also lacks the depth, skill expression, and coziness of aion 1.

must be ragebait. I also play a game 100h that I despise x). This sounds like I played a shooter game for 100h just to find out I hate aiming and hitting enemy players

u/5thTeaScent 7d ago
Why the heck do YOU worry about the longevity. Play it as long as its fun.
...or did you spent money on it and fear it is not gonna be an "investment"
1
u/-ZeroStatic- 11d ago
My main problem is shit droprates and limited content per gear tier.
In some other games there's a lot of different content that you can run to try and gear up, here it's mostly 2-4. A few short Dungeons for gear pieces, a few raids for arcana. Esp when trying to up gearscore to reach Endgame it became very demotivating when you need to kill the same snoozefest boss for the 20th time just to get 1 yellow item.
Yes you can do other things to up GS as well but pet system is just a reward for the last resort grind of other games, and the other fights give currency for equipment upgrades or skills/daevonian, which are a pittance compared to a gear upgrade.
3
u/millface1 10d ago
I’ve never seen an MMO week TWO with more content than this, but maybe I’m misremembering? It’s like everyone wants MMOs to release with 5 years worth of content day one and I don’t get it.
It used to take months to get to max gear, which kept people playing. In today’s world if they did that people would quit because it’s too grindy. There’s literally no winning for devs here (not that NC soft deserves any sympathy, just in general)
1
u/-ZeroStatic- 10d ago
I have, but I don't know how you are counting content here.
I personally don't care how long it takes to get to max gear. All I care about is that that journey has a nice sense of progression with regular small power upgrades and/or regularly changing variety of dungeons/raids/other content to run to progress with my character in a meaningful manner until I reach the end.
Either way, that doesn't change anything about the fact that there are people running the exact same dungeon dozens of times in the hopes of getting the items they need to make their GS jump so they can finally do the next piece of content, only to fail time after time and having to rely on pity which takes even more dungeon runs.

u/BerishaDragon 11d ago
Jesus stop crying. Nobody forced you to finish everything within a month. The game is already easier than the KR version. I don’t understand why everyone is rushing
1
3
u/Siraphine 10d ago
This argument doesn't make much sense when the entire game is set up to not let you access 99% of the content until you hit cap.
2
u/oookokoooook 10d ago
u telling people to not rush when the point of mmorpgs are end game content.
1
u/millface1 10d ago edited 10d ago
The point of mmorpgs is to have fun, actually. Which, for some super weird reason, half the people playing are not doing. I’d rather them condense to two servers and lose 80% of the western audience if we could just get rid of all the people hate-playing the game. TW and Korea can keep it afloat while the 10k of us here that actually like it can keep having fun.
They’ve had one update to address western concerns. And it’s got about the same content as any other MMO that released a week ago. The issue I think is that people just don’t actually want MMOs anymore. They rush to end game then run out of content then bitch because there’s no content. Every MMO. Every WoW expansion.
1
u/cowabout 10d ago
people aren't having fun because the game isn't fun. nothing weird about it. Most MMO fans like having abilities to use and getting good at their class. This is just holding 1 or 2 buttons. The healing is probably the lamest I have every played.
1
u/oookokoooook 10d ago
these games are about enhancing until you are strong enough to do the next dungeon. which you have to rush.
Main content of these games are dungeon raiding. Most don't like doing questing because mmorpgs make it a chore (going back and forth, killing the same mobs). so u rush through these to go have fun in raids.

I enjoyed the process of creating my character, leveling, and exploring. It was neat seeing modernized versions of destinations I remembered from the original, as well as Phernos/Pernos as a character making a return. But at the end of the day, all Aion 2 really did was make me miss Aion 1.
