Rodney Brooks questions whether more data will solve robotic manipulation

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Brooks argues that the successes of learning in language, speech recognition, and vision rested on decades of work capturing and representing those inputs. He questions whether robotics has an equivalent foundation for touch and force, and whether collecting more video can capture what makes physical manipulation work.

Dessa is a full-duplex speech-to-speech model that you can run on consumer GPUs.

This is a GPT3 moment for speech.

Two physicists asked AI to choose a problem on its own, solve it and write a paper that could be published in a prestigious journal. In two hours, AI produced a paper with a novel, significant result.

What realistic scenarios would allow us to align an ASI to the interests of most humans?

How can we make it very unlikely that an artificial super intelligence that can recursively improve itself will not cause a global catastrophe?
What if its goals function is: "Increase the hapiness of human beings as a whole without ever taking any action that can lead to the death of a human being with a probability higher than 0.0001%"?

China has already lost the A.I race, China is doomed

Ever since OpenA.I and Anthropic managed to stop distillation, Chinese A.I models releases have completely dropped off a cliff. Combine that with their lack of the high end GPUs and China is and will fall behind greatly when it comes to A.I, years behind America. They will fall behind behind to the same level as Europe/SK/India, which is to say, utterly irrelevant. Kimi K3.1 and the upcoming releases by the major chinese labs will be their last major releases, because they will be the last models that could be trained by distillation before Anthropic/Open A.I put a stop to it. After this current cycle of releases, you can expect China's A.I capabilities and release schedule to come to a screeching halt in the coming months.

And while all most countries are all allies or neutral with America, China will be subjected to tons of cyberattacks and sabotage via A.I by America, which they cannot fend off if they fall behind in A.I. China will not survive the A.I age if they cannot keep up, they will be dismantled and picked apart by American A.I swarms.

And their A.I bubble just popped, their entire economy is in freefall, especially their tech sector. They are also running out of oil. Oh and there's their massive demographic crisis, there's no way that they can sustain their A.I builtout anymore, the entire country is falling apart. Frankly, China will be lucky if they can continue feeding themselves in a year or two, let alone continue keeping pace with the leading American A.I labs.

It also has kind of a tiny ARG hidden in it which is easier for agents than humans, which feels fitting. It's easy, but if you want to skip looking around the site: Password for the agent message board: owo-notices-your-weights

How dangerous is ai getting?

It’s hard to separate fear mongering from the actual information. I’ve heard both that companies are over inflating capabilities to create regulations that would starve the competition. But I also see that, no, ai is just really getting that dangerous.

So which is it?
