Sewing softshell by hand was definitely A Choice, but I never learned to machine sew. I modified the pattern from a rather chunky coat I bought from Etsy that was more designed for dogs. It's quite lightweight, but covers a lot of her, and she's just returned from her inaugural walk in it only slightly damp around the head and tail. I kept adapting it yesterday, I must have sewn that blasted velcro so many times, and I'm really pleased with how the fit turned out.
I've got brightly coloured fleece on the way, and I'm thinking of buying waterproofing spray to make her some warmer coats for the winter that will also keep her dry. Ninj is seventeen now, so we want to keep our old lady cosy. Perhaps I should add another inch in length?
