Mast Cell Tumours
galleryJust wanted to make the community aware of mast cell tumours and the importance of catching them early.
I noticed a small lump on the back of Mr Tolby’s neck, between his shoulder blades. We initially left it for a couple of months, thinking it was either a cyst or an insect bite, especially given the recent hot weather.
The lump gradually increased in size to about that of a small garden pea. We took Mr Tolby in for a routine check-up, where a fine needle aspirate (FNA) was carried out and sent off for testing.
Unfortunately, the results came back positive for a malignant tumour. Further blood tests were carried out, and the results came back the same day.
Thankfully, these showed no signs of the cancer affecting his organs or of any obvious spread in the bloodwork.
The very next day, surgery was booked, and Mr Tolby had an area of approximately 3 inches removed. The surgical margins were wide and deep, with the hope of removing all the cancerous cells in the area.
He’s now back home recovering and, as usual, keeping an eye on the biscuit cupboard! ❤️
If in doubt, please get your pups checked sooner rather than later. Even a small lump can turn out to be something more serious, so it’s always worth getting it checked by your vet.
Mr Tolby loves watching this channel and seeing everyone’s contributions, so I wanted to share our experience with the community in the hope that it might help another pup.
Give your pups an extra cuddle from Mr Tolby! 🐾
