It took a LOT of tweaking and messing around, but I was able to get the GoG version of Wing Commander Prophecy (Gold) running on CachyOS via Lutris, running on OpenGL 1.4 on Intel Arc Pro B70. This is with all the mods, hi-res patches, model upgrades, etc., with a Flightstick (Logitech Extreme 3D Pro), with upscaled (via Topaz) DVD video at 1080p.
For context, I could never get this working on Windows 11, unless I used a PC with an NVIDIA GPU, and even that was sketchy. I was able to get Secret Ops working with the B70 (on Windows), but it really wasn't very stable. I'm not sure why WCSO worked but WCP didn't, but it's a huge accomplishment for me getting this to run on Linux. I had to install Prophecy Gold on with the GOG launcher on Lutris, copy the installation directory to Windows, add all the mods (the executables won't run in Linux), upscale the video in Windows (Topaz Video is Windows-only), then copy the modded installation directory back to Linux, and tweak it from there. Also needed to remap joystick controls using AntiMicroX. Direct3D doesn't seem to work with Intel Arc (or whatever version WC Prophecy uses), and whatever version OpenGL the WCP mods use aren't compatible either. Obviously Glide doesn't work, so thankfully everything works in Linux, probably because everything gets converted to Vulkan on Linux and Intel Arc uses it natively.
Not sure how much VRAM it uses. CachyOS is the Linux version that seems to play the nicest with Intel Arc, and even that has a lot of GPU telemetry limitations. It utilizes about 25% of the GPU, and at 1440p, it gives me no higher than 90 fps. It's BEAUTIFUL and I'm so happy. Can't wait to play through the whole game.

Dunno who currently owns the rights, but would love to see all of the Wing Commander games and spinoffs on the Switch or Switch 2 as a collection.

I apologize if this is some silly configuration problem on my end, but I've never encountered something like this, and I could not find a reference to it anywhere else.
I have played through WC 1 & 2 *many* times, and have used my Logitech joysticks for other games like TIE Fighter, Descent, etc.
However, when *any* controller is plugged in to WC III, it's as if the joystick is stuck to the top left on every menu. This happens when I swap my joysticks out with controllers, and even happened today, which prompted the topic. I know the controller is brand new, so nothing should be worn or broken.
The same effect happens when I try to 'recalibrate' the joystick, so I'm not sure where I can go for troubleshooting.

I am including my specs in this picture, and I want to thank anyone in advance for even reading this far. I just want to try to rule out any possibility of fixing this before I suck it up and play through with mouse and keyboard :)

Yeah this is one of few arts from EezySeven thst do not involve a character held in a oversized gloved hand.
Either way this is a tribute to Tim Curry.
This drawinf shows Nicky in a war zone (likely S. Korea under siege from the DPRK) using Kilrathi weapons (the Kilrathi rifle and pistol), most likely he likey bought it at an Kilrathi military auction when they demilitarized.

This was sitting in my WC1 box. I remember getting this in 1991 and running it in the Babbage's store where I was the assistant manager...

It needed 640k or ram.
I remember having to skip a mission because of a bad sector of the disk.

I'm currently playing through the SNES version of WC1 after having beaten the DOS version a dozen or so times but this is the first time I've been all the way down the losing branch.
I'm really struggling with Hell's Kitchen / Apocalypse 4 (and 1-3 if I'm honest) because I'm stuck with the Scimitar. Any advice? I'd even take the Hornet at this point.

Hello!
I'm working on a source-code reconstruction of the original Windows/Win32 Wing Commander executable from Wing Commander: The Kilrathi Saga.
Function and module names are largely based on the Mac demo, which contains a substantial number of symbols, along with other releases that exposed some type names. I also discovered that a complete C source file was leaked as part of an old WC1 demo, which has been useful for the reconstruction.
You can follow the work-in-progress here:
https://github.com/neuromancer/wc1-re
The goal is to recreate the original Win32 executable as closely as practical. Since byte-perfect reconstruction is usually extremely difficult and, in most cases, unnecessary, it is enough to approximate it with a good similarity metric (around 98% or so). Once the reconstruction is mature enough, I'd also like to improve the game, possibly incorporating features from WCDX, and eventually port it to SDL2.
The code is still very preliminary, so expect its quality and readability to improve significantly over the coming days.
Stay tuned!
