Discussion Dance Cards & Greeting Cards
Dance Cards & Greeting Cards (Season 7, Episode 16). Now that Scott has realized he has a crush on Karen, he has vowed to make her his girlfriend and is wooing her by sending her flowers and cards. Karen isn't interested though but has been talking to someone online and Karen is excited to mee her date, in particular because he's "fat, really fat" trying to date someone similar to Stan. Karen, Will and Jack go to her country club's Valentine's Day dance where Karen plans to meet her date, ElevatorHazzard and he'll be wearing a green string around his wrist. Scott comes to the dance and reveals he's ElevatorHazzard and shows Karen the green string. Karen tries to ignore Scott, but when Beverley Leslie won't leave her alone making fun of the fact that she's single, Scott comes in and threatens to rip off Beverley's arms and give them to Karen on a charm bracelet. Karen is touched by this and offers Scott a dance. Scott is excited thinking that he and Karen are finally together but Karen tells him she doesn't feel anything more than just a friendly dance and they decide to part ways. Will and Jack have been invited to dance with the Portillo sisters, Lucille and Lenore. They all have a fun time together and as they step to the side for a break, Beverley Leslie mentions to Will and Jack how there will never be any homosexual couples allowed in the club, they are offended and are about to leave. Lucille and Lenore stop them to ask what's wrong, they tell the ladies about what Beverley said and they admit they are not sisters but "sisters", they have to hide being a couple so they can be accepted at the club. Will and Jack decide to stand up to Beverley and start dancing together, so do Lucille and Lenore. All this homosexual dancing is bothering Beverley so much that all he can do is sway in his business associate Benji's arms. Grace is running late for the dance having to finish a project at work where there's a different Valentine's Day dance going on upstairs and everyone keeps popping in her office, including a very handsome and single man named Nick. Grace is not feeling the holiday though since this is her first Valentine's Day as a divorced woman. But her and Nick are connecting and almost kiss but are interrupted by more party goers. Seeing this as a sign, Nick tells Grace he hopes he sees her again and she tells him the same.
FAVORITE QUOTE:
KAREN: Now, you listen to me, Woolley! You and me ain't never gonna happen-- Never! Ya hear me?! Get the hell out of here before my date arrives!
SCOTT: Oh, oh, you got a date.
KAREN: Yes, I do. A big one.
SCOTT: Oh.
KAREN: Enormous, actually.
SCOTT: Uh, 400 pounds, but moves like 380?
KAREN: That's right.
SCOTT: Loves midnight snacks on the beach, horseback eating, and, uh... Will be wearing a green string around his wrist?
KAREN: You're ElevatorHazard at whalewatcher.com?
FAVORITE MOMENT:
When Beverley won't leave Karen alone and they keep insulting each other and Scott has had it and tells Beverly "If you bother the woman that I love one more time, I'm gonna rip out your tiny arms and give 'em to her on a charm bracelet." and Beverley goes running into Benji's arms and screams "Benji! He was so big!"
OPINION:
Sad, this is Jeff Goldblum's last appearance as Scott Woolley, easily one of the best guest stars of all time. He was just such a hilarious addition to the show and I wish we could have had him for a couple more episodes as Karen's boyfriend. I'm not sure if the writers intended this as a short-lived storyline or if maybe Jeff was only available for the 3 episodes. But he definitely leaves you wanting more, he had such a great click with the cast and a hilarious storyline with Karen. Jeff Golblum is a very gifted actor who has a huge fanbase, wither you enjoy his blockbuster movies like Jurassic Park or Independence Day, horror like The Fly or an indie movie like The Grand Budapest Hotel or a cult classic like Earth Girls Are Easy, he's such a fun actor to watch. I always get such a great laugh when Karen realizes that he's her date, ElevatorHazzard. Where do the writers get these hilarious lines from? I love that he even wore a green string around his wrist like if you're meeting someone you were talking to online you'd ask them to wear a string around their wrist so you can identify them. It's nice to at least see Karen trying to move on and find a new love in her life. Though I think she may not be ready just yet as it sounds like she's just trying to find a new Stan. But I think she realized this after dancing with Scott and that's why she didn't continue with him. Though she has a knack for having enemies and then they fall for her later on, I tell you Karen has some magical powers.
Will and Jack dancing with the Portillo sisters was a fun storyline. I loved how they go up to Will and Jack and are saying how Will looks like that handsome young actor...Sal Mineo who passed away nearly 3 decades earlier. Michelle Lee and Chita Rivera did a wonderful job as Lucille and Lenore and had some killer dance moves. I loved how they all were so sweet to each other and I think that Will, Jack and the ladies even became friends that night. I wouldn't have mind if they brought the sisters back to see if they had fully come out to everyone. But for the one episode it was great to see Will and Jack stand up to Beverley Leslie and it inspired Lucille and Lenore to do so as well. Speaking of which, shout out to Leslie Jordan as Beverley Leslie for another hilarious performance. Again, I cannot say enough how much I love his back and forth with Karen. I love how Beverley keeps telling Karen he'll just roll back and laugh at her and she calls him "seed of Chucky". These two have such an incredible chemistry as frenemies and I always love watching them. How long does Beverley think he can pass Benji as his "business associate"? Nevertheless, I love them as the couple "black stallion and my little pony".
Grace has now met a potential new guy named Nick played by Edward Burns. He writes greeting cards but is hoping to become an actual screen writer one day. From first impression he seems like a nice enough guy and pretty funny. He and Grace also click very well and seem to have chemistry. I do get such a laugh when they first meet and their awkward moment of Nick mentioning how crazy the office is with how many flowers there are (those are from Scott to Karen) and says to Grace he thinks she's only getting the flowers if she's dying and Grace says she's not unless he's there to kill her. Talk about weird. But then when Nick calls Grace out on her bitterness, she tries to escort him out but accidentally hits him with the door and offers him a chocolate candy, but the one she picks out because he wasn't bleeding. I loved the little jab when she puts a towel with ice on his head for his injury and he mentions how it smells like alcohol and she says she got it from her assistant's desk drawer, he asks if her assistant is Courtney Love and Grace says "not as together". I do like their little moment together when they both realize they are healing from break ups and might want to give each other a chance.
So this was another funny episode to watch. Season 7 really has some awesome episodes, it's hard to choose which is a favorite for me. But the Jeff Goldblum episodes are always a highlight and I could quote them for years.
