Welcome to r/WhatTheCrime!

Welcome to r/WhatTheCrime, a place for the strangest, most ridiculous, and downright unbelievable crime stories from across the country.

Everyone knows Florida Man, but Florida doesn't have a monopoly on bizarre criminal behavior. Every state has its share of spectacularly bad decisions, absurd arrests, unusual police encounters, and criminal schemes that probably sounded better in someone's head.

That's what belongs here.

What to Post

We're looking for real, well-reported crime stories with something genuinely unusual about them. Think ridiculous getaway attempts, bizarre excuses, spectacularly failed schemes, strange arrests, and police reports that sound like someone made them up.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Bring receipts. Link to credible reporting, official police releases, or public records. The stranger the claim, the more important the sourcing.
  • Keep it weird. Ordinary crime news isn't what this community is about. There should be something genuinely remarkable or absurd about the circumstances.
  • All 50 states are welcome. Florida Man has plenty of competition.
  • No hate or bigotry. Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and other forms of discrimination will not be tolerated.
  • Laugh at the situation, not the people. The humor here should come from the absurdity of what happened, not someone's identity, appearance, disability, or personal circumstances. Victims are never the punchline.

Help Build the Community

Found a story that made you stop and say, "What the crime?" Post it. Found a local news report so bizarre that nobody outside your hometown would believe it? We want to see it.

Everyone is welcome to contribute, whether you're a reader, journalist, or someone who just enjoys the stranger side of American crime news.

We're starting from scratch, so the best way to help is to share a great story and join the conversation.

Let's see which state can give Florida a run for its money.

Florida Woman Accused of Biting Sleeping Man's Ear Arrested Again After Police Find Her Hiding in Van With Knife

Post image

A Florida woman accused of biting a man's ear while he slept in a backyard shed earlier this year has been arrested again. This time, an argument over alleged flirting ended with police finding her hiding beneath bedding in the back of a van, where officers say she pulled out a pocketknife and prompted an officer to draw his gun.

The October 23 incident began when a male friend of 33-year-old Tiffany Gail Borkowski told her boyfriend that she'd allegedly been flirting with another man.

Borkowski reportedly didn't appreciate him sharing that information.

According to an Orange City Police Department arrest affidavit obtained by Guessing Headlights, the friend told officers that Borkowski became increasingly agitated and punched him in the face. He left to avoid further confrontation but eventually returned.

Another argument followed. This time, the man alleged that Borkowski produced a knife and threatened him. He retreated and called police.

The affidavit describes the two as friends who were not romantically involved and did not live together. The arresting officer also noted that the parties were intoxicated.

Police Find Her Hiding Under Bedding in a Van

When Orange City police arrived, they spoke with the man and began looking for Borkowski.

Officers eventually located her concealed beneath bedding in the rear compartment of a van.

According to Officer Payton Moreno's affidavit, officers removed the bedding and discovered Borkowski lying inside. Moreno observed a black pocketknife in her right rear pocket.

Police repeatedly ordered her to exit the vehicle, but she refused.

Moreno warned another officer about the knife as they continued trying to gain her cooperation.

According to his account, Borkowski suddenly reached toward her rear pocket, retrieved the knife, and moved it forward.

Moreno drew his department-issued firearm and pointed it toward her.

The officer reported that Borkowski released the knife when she saw his gun.

Police then ordered her to the ground and attempted to handcuff her. Moreno said she tensed her arms and pulled away before officers secured her.

The man who initially called police declined to provide a written statement or pursue charges relating to the alleged punch and knife threat.

Borkowski was arrested for resisting an officer without violence, a first-degree misdemeanor. The affidavit also states that the encounter was recorded on officers' AXON body-worn cameras.

Four Months Earlier, She Was Accused of Biting a Sleeping Man's Ear

Borkowski was already facing an unresolved domestic battery case stemming from a June 26, 2026, incident.

According to a separate Orange City police affidavit reviewed by Guessing Headlights, a man had been sleeping in a backyard shed following an argument.

He reported that Borkowski entered the shed, punched him in the stomach, bit his right ear, and struck his face.

Police documented an injury to the man's ear consistent with the reported bite.

Borkowski was booked into the Volusia County jail on June 26 and released the following day. The resulting domestic battery case remained open when she was arrested again in October.

An Earlier Argument Involving a Ceramic Plate

On November 16, 2023, Ormond Beach police arrested Borkowski following an argument in which her then-boyfriend alleged that she threw a ceramic plate.

According to the police account, a fragment of the plate struck his arm and caused a cut. A fan was also damaged during the incident.

Borkowski disputed that she had struck him.

The original battery case ultimately resulted in a reduced charge of culpable negligence inflicting injury. According to court records previously reviewed by Guessing Headlights, Borkowski entered a no-contest plea, and adjudication was withheld.

Another Domestic Disturbance in 2024

Orange City police arrested Borkowski again on August 29, 2024, on allegations of battery and resisting an officer without violence.

The charges had different outcomes.

The domestic battery charge was dropped, while Borkowski was adjudicated guilty of resisting an officer without violence in January 2025. She received credit for one day served.

Six Volusia County Jail Bookings

Volusia County jail records show Borkowski has been booked six times since 2015.

Her booking history includes arrests in April 2015, May 2022, November 2023, August 2024, June 2026, and October 2026.

The latest booking, recorded at 1:56 a.m. on October 24, lists a $2,500 bond for the new resisting charge. It also lists the unresolved June domestic battery charge, involving the alleged ear-biting incident, with no bond.

The jail record does not explain why the earlier charge was included in the latest booking. Borkowski was still listed in custody when Guessing Headlights checked the county's records on October 28.

Six jail bookings make for quite a collection of mugshots.

With six bookings under her belt, we have to wonder what happens on the seventh.

Does she get a free hoagie?

All parties are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Florida Woman Accused of Egging Former Friend’s House After Infidelity Feud Arrested for Missing Court

Post image

Play silly games, win silly prizes.

A Florida woman accused of covering her former friend's house in eggs, silly string, and toilet paper apparently decided to play hide-and-seek with the court system, too.

More than a year after a dispute involving accusations of infidelity, alleged Facebook harassment, and a particularly messy visit to her former friend's house, 32-year-old Kylie Michelle Spector found herself in the Volusia County jail on a failure-to-appear charge.

Kylie Michelle Spector, 32, was booked into the Volusia County jail in October 2026 on a misdemeanor failure-to-appear charge. But the story behind her arrest goes back to August 2025, when deputies responded to a rather unusual vandalism complaint in Deltona.

According to a Volusia County Sheriff's Office affidavit, Spector and the woman whose house was targeted had once been friends and lived across the street from each other.

Their friendship reportedly fell apart after Spector accused the woman of telling her boyfriend about Spector's infidelities.

The former friend told deputies that Spector blamed her for ruining the relationship and had spent months harassing her. She claimed Spector created fake Facebook accounts to catfish her, sent repeated messages, and contacted her friends and family with accusations about ruining Spector's relationship.

The woman said she eventually blocked Spector on Facebook and told her to stop contacting her, but the unwanted communications continued.

Then came August 23, 2025.

The woman told deputies she heard loud noises outside her house and asked her husband to investigate.

When he stepped outside, he reportedly spotted Spector getting into a blue Kia Soul.

As she began driving away, the husband shouted at her.

According to the sheriff's affidavit, Spector shouted back:

"F* you, Aida!"**

The husband then discovered the front of the house covered in eggs, silly string, and toilet paper.

Two days later, the woman provided investigators with screenshots of additional alleged contact attempts, including messages reportedly sent through other people after she blocked Spector.

Deputies initially submitted the case as a stalking complaint. Prosecutors subsequently filed a first-degree misdemeanor criminal mischief charge involving between $200 and $1,000 in damage to the woman's house.

Spector was scheduled to appear in court on August 12, 2026, but missed her arraignment. The judge issued an arrest warrant.

Court records contain an interesting complication: the mailed arraignment notice was returned as undeliverable, and a subsequent investigation couldn't locate her. The reason she missed court was recorded as unknown.

Her October booking listed a $500 bond.

Neither the allegations of infidelity nor the claims of online harassment have been independently established. The criminal mischief case remains open.

All parties are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Florida Wrestler Amber Nova Arrested for DUI; Police Say She Gave Conflicting Accounts of Drinking, Asked Officer to Follow Her Home

Post image

Amber Judith Flora, 34, known professionally as independent wrestler Amber Nova, was arrested in Orlando on October 23, 2026, on charges of DUI and refusing to submit to breath testing.

Guessing Headlights obtained the four-page sworn arrest affidavit, which provides considerably more detail about what happened before her arrest.

According to the affidavit, an Orlando police officer noticed Nova driving shortly after midnight at what he perceived to be a high rate of speed. He began following her and reported that she failed to maintain her lane before stopping beyond the crosswalk at a red light.

A second officer, Alvin Silverio, arrived to conduct the DUI investigation. He reported smelling alcohol inside the vehicle and observing that Nova's eyes were watery and glassy.

When questioned about where she had been, Nova initially said she had visited bars with friends. She subsequently said she had only driven past the bars before mentioning house parties.

Silverio also noticed a green wristband that he believed was consistent with one issued by an establishment serving alcohol.

Asked whether she had consumed alcohol, Nova initially denied drinking but later acknowledged having red wine while cooking at home. She first described one glass and subsequently admitted to more than one, according to the affidavit.

One unusual detail: Nova repeatedly asked Silverio to follow her home to make sure she arrived safely, explaining that she lived approximately two miles away.

The officer explained that he could not determine the investigation's outcome until it was completed.

Nova initially expressed uncertainty about participating in field sobriety exercises. Silverio explained that participation was voluntary, and she eventually agreed.

During the exercises, he reported several indicators he associated with impairment, including involuntary eye movements, missed heel-to-toe steps, an improper turn, and difficulty maintaining balance.

When Nova said she had been distracted during the one-leg stand, the officer allowed her to repeat it. He documented similar observations during the second attempt.

Nova was arrested at approximately 1:48 a.m.

The breath-testing process was also unusual.

At the Orange County Sheriff's Office DUI Testing Center, Nova initially refused to take a breath test, according to the police reports.

After being informed of the consequences, she reportedly had difficulty deciding whether to proceed. Officers started the testing equipment, but two attempts produced no valid breath samples.

Nova also asked to speak with an attorney.

Before officers formally recorded a refusal, the testing operator wrote that Nova pleaded with them, saying she wanted to take the test after all.

Officers restarted the equipment and provided two more opportunities. Neither attempt produced a valid sample. The operator reported that Nova continued talking during the periods when she was supposed to provide one.

At 3:31 a.m., police formally classified the encounter as a refusal.

All four attempts were recorded as "No Sample Provided." Consequently, there is no measured blood-alcohol concentration in the documents, and we do not know her BAC.

Florida changed its DUI refusal law effective October 1, 2025. A first refusal to submit to a lawful breath or urine test can now constitute a second-degree misdemeanor when statutory requirements are met, punishable upon conviction by up to 60 days in jail and a $500 fine. A separate administrative driver's license suspension can also apply.

Nova was released from Orange County Jail at approximately 10:07 a.m. on October 23. Her two misdemeanor cases remain open.

The arrest affidavit confirms that the investigating officer's body-worn camera was active. Guessing Headlights has requested the recording and contacted Nova to offer her an opportunity to provide her account.

Nova has made appearances on WWE NXT, AEW, and Impact Wrestling, although much of her career has been on the independent circuit. She is also a classic-car enthusiast known for her 1973 Chevrolet Nova. The arrest affidavit describes her vehicle as an orange two-door Chevrolet.

The information above comes from the sworn police affidavit and related DUI testing records. The officers' observations and allegations have not been adjudicated.

All parties are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
