Question Anyone wanna process a flock of chickens and fill their freezer FOR FREE???

Hi everyone... I have an offer(?) for anyone near the Harrison/Doddridge area.. I am sort of torn on which route I want to go, mainly bc I am a giant sissy pants. But anyways... a couple of years ago , I gave away ALL of my chickens except for 4 hens and a roo.. that's all I need, that's all I want and that is all I can manage and stay sane with.

My flock at the time was mainly FBCM and game birds, and then crosses of the 2 (I free range everyone and it was a reliable self sustaining flock just too many for me) I gave the guy that messaged me first and showed up somewhere in the neighborhood of 79 birds..

Well, my luck runs deep and true...lol.. and within a week of him picking the birds up, hens started reappearing ... remember the free ranging and self sustaining?? Yep, had I think 6, maybe 7 hens show up within the following 2 weeks , all proudly showing off their enormous new batch of cuties... fast forward to now.. Im no where near close to the OG 70.. but these hussies will not stop.. there's something in the water here I swear. I got 4 lavender Orps and a Majesty Maran(?? think that is what they called it) at the end of April, the Orps started laying first and didn't think the Maran was yet. Then she vanished. I thought for sure a coon got her. Nope, that skank literally laid her first 4 eggs and then immediately proceeded to hatch them. So when I say these hussies won't stop, Im not exaggerating..lol..

But all that shyt to finally get to my damn plan...

I cant process... I don't know how and even tho I cuss these guys 29 times a minute for shytting on my porch nonstop and being never ending feed holes, I don't have it in me. But if there is any one out there that wants to fill their freezer (or freezers, I'm happy to do this with more than 1 person/family). If there's anyone that knows how to process PROPERLY and HUMANELY, I would absolutely LOVE to make a day out of this, I'll supply lunch/dinner and drinks (soda , water and juice , BYOB if that's your drink choice) and I will buy whatever else needed like freezer bags, etc. I have 30 acres, big ass trampoline plenty of room for bikes/dirt bikes if you need to bring kids, a creek that runs thru the farm if they like to fish, wifi if they are more modern kids..lol... Ive got 2 of my own. There's target practice areas, literally almost anything you could need for a day away from home..

But I will gladly split the birds evenly if anyone is interested in this.

I know times are a little rough for everyone rn, and hoping I can put together a day that will help a few of us and maybe teach me something while we are at it. I don't have a plucking swirly mahgig, but Ive got a big ass fire pit. I would just need someone to get me a list of what all I need on hand.

And I guess if there are no takers on this, Im gonna have a bunch of birds for giveaway again.

And for what its worth; none of the birds are over 2, I have several large roosters that have been crowing (not growing)..maybe 2 months, several pullets that haven't laid yet , probably won't til spring. Most look like Marans without the foot feathering. I do have a quad of EEs, my 4 lavender orps and the Maj. Maran lady and her 2 babies that won't be part of the freezer camp crew but I would love to find a home for them. I also have Tolbunt Polish and working on Candy Corn, have a couple extra roos that need homes from that bunch. Frizzle Tolbunt and smooth Tolbunt.

But anyways, if you made it this far, you are a damn champ.

And im not picky about dates or anything, I have a very flexible schedule and we can even split it up over a couple days if needed..

PART 2: 27,000 people saw my post about alleged student-safety failures at a WV high school. Over a year later, I have the district's own records. Here's what happened

Last summer, I posted here about serious student-safety concerns involving a West Virginia public high school.

That post received approximately 27,000 views in its first 48 hours, generated dozens of comments, and prompted suggestions ranging from contacting the media to getting state authorities involved.

Some people wanted to know what school it was. Others asked whether CPS had been contacted, whether there was evidence, and whether the state had done anything.

Well, it's been over a year. I followed through on those suggestions, and I think people deserve an update.

The original concerns involved reports of possible parental mistreatment, historical suicide-related concerns, and an allegation that a school resource officer declined to review an offered recording.

I still have serious concerns about how those situations were handled.

But this time, I'm not relying solely on the original account.

I now have historical documents provided by the school district itself.

1. The district provided its own mandatory-reporting policies and training documents.

Following multiple public-records requests, the district produced a collection of records relevant to the 2023–2024 school year.

Among them:

  • Policy JLF — Reporting Child Abuse/Child Protection: A district policy adopted in 2019.
  • 2023–2024 mandatory-reporting acknowledgment: A form reproducing the statutory requirements for reporting suspected child abuse and neglect.
  • Professional staff checklists: Documents identifying training and employee policy-acknowledgment requirements.
  • Mandatory-reporting training handouts: Materials addressing reporting methods, centralized intake, screening, and abuse-related concerns.
  • An August 2023 professional-development schedule: Identifying both mandatory-reporting and suicide-prevention training.

These weren't documents found through speculation. They were supplied by the district in response to a records request.

And the reporting requirements are important.

Under West Virginia Code §49-2-803, school personnel with reasonable cause to suspect child abuse or neglect must report it immediately, and no later than 24 hours.

The employee acknowledgment also makes clear that notifying a supervisor does not eliminate an individual's reporting obligation.

Think about that for a moment.

The district had written reporting requirements. It had employee acknowledgment materials. It had training documents and a schedule identifying relevant instruction.

But having the rules on paper doesn't tell us whether they were followed.

To be accurate, the documents do not establish whether individual employees completed the training or what happened internally when the original concerns were raised.

And that is precisely what I want to know.

2. The West Virginia Department of Education reviewed the matter.

After further correspondence, WVDE confirmed in writing that it had reviewed submitted materials, requested additional information, and consulted county personnel.

The department also explained that the available information had not enabled it to sufficiently verify the events or identify everyone involved.

Additional information was subsequently provided, and WVDE Legal Services acknowledged receiving those details.

But I still do not have confirmation of a formal investigation, a substantiated finding, or a final nonconfidential determination.

To be clear, I am not claiming WVDE did nothing.

I'm saying the information available to me does not establish how its consideration of the concerns ultimately concluded.

And after this much time, identifying the responsible reviewing authority and obtaining whatever procedural disposition can legally be shared is a reasonable objective.

3. There was also a separate CPS report, and questions remain about its handling.

This is something I want to distinguish from the original school reporting question.

A separate anonymous report was made to West Virginia CPS in 2025 concerning historical child-welfare concerns.

Later efforts sought limited procedural information: whether that report could be located, whether it had been received and screened, and whether it had been routed or otherwise processed.

The Foster Care Ombudsman advised that the concerns could be reviewed but that case-specific findings could not be disclosed due to confidentiality.

A Centralized Intake official subsequently explained that additional identifying information would be needed to look into the earlier report and that the office could not confirm or deny whether an intake had been received.

Further correspondence seeking a privacy-protective written process has not yet resolved those questions.

So I cannot tell you whether that particular CPS report was accepted for assessment, screened out, referred elsewhere, or resulted in any action.

That lack of confirmation does not prove CPS failed to act.

But it does illustrate how difficult it can be to establish even a limited procedural understanding of a report's handling while protecting the privacy of the people involved.

4. I also tried getting local news coverage.

Media outreach was another avenue suggested when I made the original post.

A local television newsroom was contacted about the concerns, and additional records were subsequently provided.

A reporter later confirmed reviewing additional documentation and explained that earlier correspondence needed to be revisited. The reporter also indicated that newsroom management would need to be involved in determining whether coverage moved forward.

I responded and followed up.

No further substantive response or resulting published coverage has been identified through that correspondence.

I'm not claiming the newsroom deliberately abandoned the matter or suppressed a story. Editorial decisions are theirs to make.

But I want people to understand that this wasn't a situation where someone made a Reddit post and simply waited for somebody else to do the work.

Official channels, public-records procedures, media outreach, and requests for legal assistance have all been pursued.

5. Here's the question I still want answered.

The district recently received a direct written inquiry asking whether the student-safety concerns previously brought to school personnel met the mandatory-reporting threshold and, if so, whether the required CPS report was submitted within the prescribed timeframe.

I want to correct one important overstatement from my original post.

I previously described the absence of a mandatory report as though it had already been established.

It hasn't.

The information currently available does not prove that such a report was made, but it also does not prove that no report existed.

And I refuse to turn an unanswered question into a factual accusation.

But that doesn't mean the question should disappear.

The historical reporting requirements are documented.

The state has confirmed reviewing correspondence and consulting county officials.

A separate CPS intake-handling inquiry remains unresolved.

And there is still no verified, case-specific answer available to me establishing whether the relevant school reporting obligations were fulfilled.

Why I'm posting this

Because when serious student-safety information is brought to a public school, there should be meaningful processes for reporting, documentation, assessment, and appropriate oversight.

And when somebody raises concerns about whether those processes were followed, there should be an identifiable authority capable of examining them.

I'm not asking Reddit to convict anyone.

I'm not asking people to identify students, witnesses, or families. Please don't attempt to do that.

I also won't be publishing private messages, recordings, or identifying evidence.

What I am asking is this:

If the reporting requirements are written down, employees are given acknowledgment materials, and training is scheduled, how do we establish whether those protections were actually carried out when they were needed?

And if the underlying records are confidential, what meaningful, nonconfidential accountability mechanism exists?

If anyone has specific, reliable knowledge of West Virginia school-accountability procedures, independent oversight, or genuinely free legal assistance for these types of issues, I would appreciate it.

Over a year ago, this community helped draw attention to serious concerns.

Today, I can point to actual district documents and official correspondence.

The rules are documented. The outreach is documented. The unanswered questions are documented.

Now I want to know whether the responsibilities those rules describe were actually carried out.

“It’s exhausting to think that we’ve taken care of this land for a hundred years in the family, we’ve paid taxes on it and they’re allowed to come and bulldoze through it,” Lisa Boyer said.

For Boyer, the uncertainty has shaken something more fundamental than the future of the farm itself. “You think you’re protected on your own land. And then one day, you realize: do I even really own it?"

Question Would It Be Economically Beneficial for West Virginia to Rejoin Virginia?

Much as how Eastern Kentucky is not the best economically, but gets money from the west, wouldn’t West Virginia be in better shape if its people could get money from Richmond?

Moving I want to buy a house with property but how?

I've worked really hard and have been on the road almost solid working since 2021. I paid off my school debt, my vehicles, credit card and saved up a decent down payment. My goal has been to own my own home with enough land to grow food and raise animals. I was hoping for like 20-50 acres but it feels like the more I work to put myself in a good position to buy the prices raise and I can't catch up. I was raised by a struggling single mom and we were homeless at points and my dream is to live and care for a home.

In March I looked at a house that was a fixer upper and went into contract at $400,000 for 50 acres and a 3,500 sqft house. Welll after spending hundreds of dollars the inspection showed A LOT of major issues (Ac didn't work, the plumbing was cracked everywhere, the water main under the house was busted and water when the water company turned it on it was flooding under the house but also under ground somewhere on the driveway, Needed a new roof and skylight which was quoted at $50,000 because of the skylights, lots of windows needed replacing, the barn had a pack rat that chewed through most of one of the structural posts, no sign of where the septic was and could get it inspected, etc) and I'm pretty sure someone was murdered there, there was blood smears across a few rooms on with a safe and pooled blood staining the wood floors in the living room. Not to mention the title company showed an easement that took up a lot of acreage for the neighbor to access their land.

I was still willing to take it on but offered no more than $325,000 and even that was pushing it but I really liked the area and the house was unique and it had a barn. She wouldn't budge on the price even though it was a paid off house that she inherited from her brother and it had been sitting for 3 years just getting more and more damaged sitting there. The real estate agent for the seller was awful and tried to force me to use her as my agent too and was pissed when I said no. In fact that's 3 times, these agents want to double dip and get pissed and give subpar service when you don't agree to it.

Is there a better way to find houses that local families are selling for their memaws? Should I contact local churches? This feels impossible and I'm losing hope.

Missing Cat - Kanawha City Area

This is a long shot, given the fact this sub covers the whole state, but my husband and I live in the apartments in Kanawha city and we can't find our cat anywhere. She was still settling in with us and was just starting to open up more. We hadn't even gotten her a collar yet because she mostly stayed hidden and we didn't want to stress her too much. I believe she's a couple years old, fluffy tortie, and her name is Pixel. If you live in the area and happen to see this, please be on the look out for her. She's very shy and timid, but she doesn't purposely bite or use claws. If anything, she's more likely to hiss at you.

Question Request: poor farm cemetery Fairmont West Virginia

At one time the poor farm for Marion county was located, apparently, on poor farm rd (now montana rd) in Fairmont. Records indicate that there were memorial slabs which are now gone. Can someone find the actual spot and post the geographical coordinates for the cemetery? Ideally center yourself in the cemetery area and give those coordinates. There is likely nothing to see but an empty field but a picture of where to stop on the road to find it and maybe even a shot of the field would be nice. Here is as much info as I have: https://www.wvgw.net/marion/cemetery/marion-poor.htm

Day trip by train to Thurmond WV, thoughts?

I've been reading in the news about these potential demolitions in Thurmond. Being that Thurmond has been on my bucket list for a long time I'm thinking of a wild and crazy plan to check it out for a day. Since I don't have a car and would be traveling solo by train, it seems like my best bet would be going to Charleston and taking a day trip to Thurmond from there on a day where the eastbound and westbound trains meet. My only concern would be going back to charleston, if the train heading back is delayed or even worse canceled, I'd be screwed, or at best waiting for hours in pitch blackness with nowhere to go. Don't know if I would get cell service either. Has anybody ever tried a trip like that? Would love some thoughts on this. Thank you!
